I’ve had this happen to me too, OP. I JIP’d into a WZA game that, from the start, was clearly one-sided. The opposing team was defending the Spire…well, defending may not be the best word to describe it. They definitely were, but not in the traditional sense. Rather, for them, a good defense was an overwhelming offense lol.
I quickly realized (and later confirmed), that this was a 12-man fireteam my pack of randoms were…um…fighting? I don’t know if ‘fighting’ is the right word either. More like…hmmm, *submitting ourselves to slaughter against*.
Well, I chose to hide (I never quit) and wait it out. I know, perhaps a cowardly thing to do and no benefit to the team…but it beat stepping three feet out of the spawn only to be mowed down by a variety of killing machines. The highest kill on our team at that point was 2, and the opposition’s top player had 34. With only 1 minute to go, they abandoned the Spire, and one player took the bait and capped it…ushering in another 6 minutes of utter destruction.
Still hiding behind my teeny, tiny rock, amazed that I hadn’t been discovered yet, I listened as Banshees and Phaetons filled the air, and warthogs and wraiths scoured the ground.
It. Was. A. Massacre. By the end of it, our top player had 3 kills, while the enemy team’s best had 76. Second place had 47 kills, and third place had 35. The rest were about in the high 20’s. An entire team’s worth of blue players had dropped out of that game, and no one that ventured out (which was everyone but me for some reason) ever even got close to the Armory.
I agree you shouldn’t give up when you’re up against a team that’s somewhat superior to your own, or even super good. But when it’s painfully obvious that no amount of effort from your team is going to turn the tide (because there’s not really even a tide to turn), for the love of god, save everyone on your team the torture and don’t cap the suddenly empty Spire/Garage/Fortress. You didn’t instantly become a Champion player and outplay the other team…you simply fell for their trap, and played right into their hands.
Whew, that was a crazy game. I was genuinely terrified I would be discovered and thrown into that meatgrinder with everyone else. O.O
