I'm a huge Halo fan, and $100 is too steep for me

I don’t think I can justify dropping a hundred bucks on the Limited Edition when I don’t get anything of real value. There are the requisition packs (which I’d actually rather NOT have, since I’d like to actually play the game to unlock things instead of having them handed to me because I paid money), the Fall of Reach animated series (which will eventually make its way to other places and I’m not particularly excited about, considering it’s kind of irrelevant to Halo 5), a “Guardian model by Metal Earth” (so some kind of figurine of undisclosed size?), and some useless lore stuff like the previous two limited editions.

I mean, I justified spending $100 on the Halo 4 LE because it contained the season pass, as well as with Halo: Reach’s LE since it was only $80. But $100 again but without anything of real gameplay value? Come on. This is a limited edition akin to what Reach had. Some minor nifty lore collectibles and some minor in-game supplemental content. It should be $80. The only thing really different is the FoR animated series which is probably worth $20 on its own, but that’s not what I’m paying for. I’m paying for a video game and I want things related to that. I don’t want to be forced to buy a cinematic series along with it since I have no other options.

I’m a huge Halo fan. This is my main series. I’m a giant lore nerd for it too. But I can’t justify spending an extra forty dollars on lore knickknacks and a cartoon I don’t care about. It saddens me that I’m probably going to settle for the standard edition even though I’d gladly pay some extra money for the cool collectibles and to support my favorite developer. (You hear that, Microsoft? I’d spend extra money on useless crap had I had an option for something at a less ridiculous price).

AND, I don’t even get a disc with it! I want a physical copy so I can continue to play this game when the Xbox One’s servers inevitably get shut down years from now.

Then… purchase the standard copy when it comes out?

A few things.

The Limited Edition comes with the disc. The Limited Collector’s Edition does not. So you don’t have to worry about that. With that said, digital download games can be played offline, so you will be able to play your offline digital games in the future just fine.

Both the LE and LCE are arguably overpriced, but it’s up to everyone to make their own decisions about how their money is spent. If you find some of the extra collectible content to be “useless lore stuff,” I don’t know why you’re really interested in the Halo special editions anyway.

As you’re aware, the Req Packs have gameplay value.

I already addressed that.

I’m not in a conundrum. I’m simply frustrated that there’s no intermediate option. Either I get the plain edition or the balls-deep edition for more than half the price more when I really wanted to get something more than the standard edition.

If in frustration, just settle for the price you are comfortable with.

Besides I’m sure you could buy those bonuses later down the line separately.

I’ve gotten at least the LE in every Halo game since Halo 2. Which sucked because I didn’t have a true job until well after 3 came out.
That said I still got the CE for 3 and Reach. I have also pre ordered the CE for 5 with the LE download as it cant be shipped to where I am currently working. But…I work in a tax free zone. So…Mo Money

Okay so I do get a disc? That’s a relief. The reason I wanted physical is because the servers going offline would make it so I couldn’t redownload the game in the future if I ever uninstalled it.

The Requisition packs, if they’re anything like battlepacks from BF4, are not real gameplay value. They’re microtransactions for stuff that you can get in game very easily. When I mean gameplay value, I mean things like season passes and special armor/skins that you couldn’t get by any other means.

I do think $100 is pretty steep, but I’m willing to pay, since I’m not putting it down all at once and I can afford it.

Honestly, the physical stuff is what carries the most value to me. I’m a big lore buff so I like collecting things that have a place in it (like the Spartan IV manual and MJOLNIR armor blueprints).

Also, the only reason I even consider paying so much for this halo is that I feel it has a bit of political, historical, and personal significance, and I feel obligated to support it best I can. And it looks like a potential GOTY contender, if 343 has REALLY been listening to us.

Even though I’m buying it for my own reasons, I agree with you OP. It’s overpriced, or at least it seems that way in comparison to the Halo 2-Reach Limited Editions, which had a lot of great content. We’ll just have to see, though.

If they included a digital collection of the Halo: Escalation graphic novels, then THAT would be a deal I would be interested in.

Fall of reach does actually tie into halo 5 because otherwise you wouldn’t know who the Chiefs teammates are. Unless you read the book I’m willing to buy it for that alone all also if you go digital it’s 10 dollars cheaper
