I'll try to talk you into optimism

20/60/20 rule: 20% will be for something, 20% will be against it and 60% will be undecided. I’m going to try to help sway those who may be on the fence or slightly negative. My argument will not be based on specs or preferred game play but rather about mindset.

Most people have a time in their lives they refer to as “the good ole days”. When everything was perfect, its usually somewhere around the time they graduate high school through their early 20’s. They’ll spend the rest of their lives trying to get their lives and everything in their orbit back to the way it was then.

That’s true of how we look at games too. Often, we don’t want large changes to the game we love because that’s not why we fell in love with a game or a franchise. We essentially want all sequels to be full game sized DLC. More of the same, the EXACT same.

This thinking is normal and not necessarily bad, but we aren’t taking into account some factors about why games change like changing demographics, advancements and trends in gaming, and maybe most importantly, creativity and freedom for game designers to try new things so they don’t burn out making the same stuff all the time.

Our feelings about what we loved and wanting it to stay that way are valid, but just like anything else, they can’t stay that way so our options then become, adapt, take the good memories and try to make new ones with what we have now, or stand by the road as the game passes us by and yell at it for driving too fast.

Will Infinite be unlike any other Halo game? Absolutely.
Will Infinite be like all other Halo games? Yup. It’s gonna do that too.
Will Infinite be different from contemporary shooters? 100%
Will Infinite be similar to contemporary shooters? Better believe it.

If you look, you’ll find parts of what you loved and new reasons to love it more. Have hope. Be optimistic. This game is going to be great!

All these are ok, and I believe fully there’s going to be a LOT of fun to be had in Infinite if we don’t hold it to our romanticized versions of Halos past and let it be something new while still carrying parts of the old that we fell in love with.
