Legendary weapons are fine. Map specific weapons are fine.
The community, however, asked for no armour abilities (or any derivatives thereof) or sprint. I certainly don’t want thruster packs or sprint ruining the map design for me (It’s been constantly proven in the past that sprint does nothing but add bloat to maps in order to combat maps being suddenly too small thanks to sprint), nor do I want thruster packs or sprint turning prior tense gun battles into ultimately tiresome goose chases.
I’ll play the Beta but no further. From that point onwards until 343industries stops trying to force these game mechanics onto those who don’t want it, I’ll just watch some walkthroughs of its campaign on YouTube when Halo 5 Guardians releases.
And to be honest? This new “grimdark/gritty” aesthetic does not work with Halo. I preferred it when it was clean and easily readable ala Halo 2 and 3. Halo 5 Guardians looks atrocious - and I thought Halo Reach (with all of its grey and brown) looked ugly.
It’s too bad you are making such a landmark decision for yourself so early on. I hope you don’t box yourself in like this in other aspects of your life.
To your point about aesthetics, it seemed to me that many people really enjoyed Reach’s dirtier & grittier tone. I like a dash of that mixed in with the rest of what is a very vibrant (and saturated) Halo universe.
I’ve seen enough of Halo 5’s multiplayer to see that sprint hasn’t been removed. I’ll play the Beta, but only to be better informed over what I’m talking about. The point is, I’m making a complaint, and if its multiplayer does not change beyond the Beta, then I see no reason to continue to play it (or even buy the official release) because the multiplayer is what keeps a game alive after everyone has finished playing its campaign. I don’t “box” myself in (which is another reason why not only do I have an up-to-date gaming rig, I also have a Wii-U, a PS4 and an Xbox One - even though the Xbox One is heavily unoptimized and slow when compared to everything else that I own).

You didn’t even read my thread, did you? I said that I will play the Beta but because the multiplayer is where the game continues to live (after everyone plays the campaign) unless it appeases me I won’t bother buying into it. I’ll also be playing the Beta to be better informed about why I won’t like the multiplayer.

343 warriors report!
How dare OP state his views on gameplay aspects which he is familiar with because he has either played them in past Halo games or other games or has seen enough footage, given his experience with Halo, to know how they will play into the multiplayer aspect.

The only thing I can guarantee you is that it will definitely change after the beta. Whether it is to your liking is another concern.
As for sprint, the only definite fact I can ascertain about its viability is that it is currently in the eyes of the beholder, since I know there definitely is a population on the other side of the fence. Whether you want to commit genocide over that area to validate your claim is not my choice.
Also, do SAs still fall under the paradigm of AAs if they have been relegated to just additional abilities available to every player? Have I gone foolish somewhere in this line of thinking?

Perhaps, but in what way will it change? It’s not just to my liking but plenty of other users who have voiced their concerns over sprint staying in the Halo franchise regardless of how many ask for it to be removed.
And that is where you’d be wrong. It has been objectively proven to have stretched out maps in order to combat how sprint makes maps inherently smaller. This is most evident with Halo 4’s map “Haven”.
SA’s that augment mobility do. I wouldn’t be so agitated if Spartan Abilities (or hell even Armour Abilities) weren’t designed to augment mobility. Abilities like Hologram and Energy/Bubble Shield, for example.

Strong everything in this post.
Brb saying that judging a game without playing the actual games makes you an ignorant and childish makes you a 343i fanboy
AAs are going away and have been replaced by Spartan Abilities. These abilities are core gameplay mechanics each player can do.- Sprint is here to stay. It has been nerfed further by preventing your shields to recharge when using it.Beta is being used to tweak whats already in. If you dont like it, don’t bother playing it. Looking at thr midship remake, the maps are going to be too big for Classic.
Play the MCC if you are looking for classic gameplay when it gets fixed. Otherwise, you are really just wasting time.

Certainly, but my point is not about that. I want to find out why there is a presence of population on the other side of the fence if such a concept was a clear as ABC like how you described it; why for instance did I see someone say Sprint was awesome on these forums. Is a purge or moment of enlightenment required for them?
And pardon me, but have I gone crazy or did you say hologram and bubble shield augment mobility?

Because Halo 4 was designed to pander to a different crowd, and it worked.

No. I was saying that I would be fine with abilities so long as they didn’t augment mobility, and then I listed two such examples of Armour Abilities that don’t augment mobility.

And if that crowd was pleased, then truly the viability of it is in the eyes of the beholder, since their opinion greatly differs from the anti-sprint camp. But then again, I may be underestimating the shallowness of the common crowd. I think there is a conflict of duties here; as producers of a franchise meant to stay loyal to fans or as part of a market destined to release something for everyone.
So am I right to say that you are not in favour of movement being added to the traditional triangle of guns, grenades and melee?

Not true. Some simply wanted abilities to be on map, or combined with equipment. Others have said their only issue with them is that not everyone has them.
There was a huge demand for thruster pack to be default, and it’s even won acceptance in the competitive community (though not unanimous acceptance, obviously).
> or sprint.
Me neither but it’s here to stay. I’ve explained why its bad several times, but in the end its falling on deaf ears. Making a shooter without sprint in 2014 is not something Publishers are going to be comfortable doing.

Halo 2 was MUCH more gritty, if you want to talk about a ton of grey and brown. We’ve barely even seen Halo 5 maps, yet gritty is not the impression I was left with. It’s certainly no Halo CEA, but still.

I’m not in favour of augmented movement that does not benefit the traditional triangle of guns, grenades and melee. Because sprint doesn’t benefit the traditional triangle. Nor does sprint benefit map design. Halo 4’s Haven was its smallest map and it was a huge amalgamation of overly-long corridors and bloated map design.

Well, true, some abilities were pretty decent, and having them spawn on map would be a pretty good way of making it work - by treating them like power weapons or powerups.
So you’re not going to play the Beta to see if the way they have implemented sprint works, but purely to say you’ve played the beta therefore you can say sprint doesn’t work? You’re basically just going in determined not to like it and will conclude you don’t no matter what. Why not just skip the beta and save yourself the trouble?

Wrong, so that I can confirm that sprint won’t work regardless of how much 343i tweaks and nerfs sprint. If the nerf does change how it plays in a positive manner, then I may reconsider. What I’ve heard and seen about Halo 5 thus far isn’t enough, so I’m going to have to play the Beta myself.

Yeah but I think that is a big part of the community that have never liked (or have started to not like) sprint, I don’t prefer it but I use it if I must.
