When I played the beta I loathed it, didn’t really give it a chance. I bought the full game because I love Halo and I still planned on doing the campaign but even that felt bad, the new mechanics, everything just felt off. There are two camps of Halo fans, ones who like the purist Halo 2/3 style arena gameplay and those that like armor abilities and loadouts, both are awesome in their own ways. Halo 5 kind of tried to cater to both and wound up not fully pleasing either. I wasn’t happy at all with the way it played but after some time with it I’m starting to understand how it plays a bit more and I’m not getting paddled like I was before. Anyone who says they hate the game right now, I would recommend you stick with it for a few days and get the hang of things before you rage to much.
The number one tip I can give is to stop using ADS/Scoping, it sucks. You have MUCH better results if you shoot “from the hip” like traditional Halo games. At first I was using the left trigger on reflex like a typical military shooter and I was getting wrecked, from the hip its like you have godly aim assist and can headshot people from pretty far away. Honestly the main thing that made the game feel like garbage was how the sights handled, they downright suck. Ditch them as soon as possible and I promise it’ll feel more like Halo in an instant. Number two would be don’t play this like classic Halo, don’t just run around corners and expect to bunny hop your way into the room and take out three Spartans, the time to kill is insanely low now. Be cautious and take your time.
I know after paying between $60 and $250 its hard to be patient with something but just try to stick in there, as painfully annoying as it is to wait, key features like Forge are still coming, missing gametypes are still coming, fan-favorite playlists that are shocking missing… are still coming. If Halo 5 is making you rage that hard, just take a break the game may feel unfinished now but eventually it’s be worth your investment.
