I’m reading over the article currently and I’m seeing a lot of talk about the covenant and not the banished. They also refer to Jega as a covenant member. Is this intentional?
Quite the series of bad looks for IGN regarding Infinite coverage.
Precisely, especially after the Journalist gameplay.
I don’t really think they misused the term Covenant anywhere. They’re using the Banished to describe the actual faction and seem to use the Covenant in a retrospect kind of way.
This is how I read it too. More of a compare and contrast.
IGN? Looking bad? Can’t say I’m surprised. I’m actually really sad that they’re the ones publishing the news and posting gameplay for Infinite. Any big game release, really. They’re just journalists who chose video games. They’re not gamers and they surely do not understand how to make games look fun. I have zero issues with them wanting to play Halo, or any game. However, their lack of knowledge makes their journalism look like a giant meme.
You know what they say: can’t spell IGN without ignorant!
The way that use Covenant is not in the present tense and is more comparing the behavior of the Banished vs the Covenant, especially when it comes to Jega. " So, going against Covenant tradition and principles, he accepts a robotic arm and mandibles. “The Banished represent what the Covenant would’ve been like if you didn’t have the [group’s] dogmatic restraint on things,” Easterling said." Context Clues definitely help to convey that they are referencing the Covenant retrospectively.
I don’t think they chose game journalism. I’ll leave it at that.
Not at all surprised. I don’t feel like IGN always know what there talking about. I’ve seen situations where they’ve openly mocked franchises like ‘Sonic’ and insulted the games with misinformation, generally come off as ‘Snarky’.
There usually ok for video guides but for opinions and fact checking I generally don’t trust them to be reliable.
IGN has been known to make some mistakes in regards to gaming news and stuff and their takes aren’t always the best, but in this case I don’t think they’ve done anything wrong. In the article where they talk about Jega they only mention the Covenant as a contrast to how the Banished are built and structured. While the Covenant and Elites in general were very strict about not altering their bodies or desecrating themselves and sticking close to tradition, the Banished are not as dogmatic and will use whatever means necessary to survive and conquer. I believe that was the point the IGN article was trying to make and was why they pointed out that Jega has cybernetic enhancements and protheses on his body which would have been frowned upon if not outright heretical in the Covenant. Could have probably been said better in the IGN article however which is why there seems to be confusion.
after watching that horrible gameplay, I believe more in politicians than IGN
I think you’ve got that backwards…
Yep, that was intentional.
