IGN - Show us 5 well known super jumps!

Since IGN is showing off Halo MCC all October, they should show us 5 well known super jumps in the Halo 2 Classic Multiplayer.

I can name off 3 super jumps that I would really want to see performed. . .

  1. The big bounce to get on top of the tallest tower on Ascension.

  2. The side walkway bounce to get above the lift room on Lockout.

  3. The bounce on Burial Mounds to get on a rock, that allows you to get past an invisible boundary, where you will be able to walk on the invisible staircase into the air, until you fall back to the ground beyond the boundary.

Please share your favorite super jumps from Halo 2!

Anyone. . .

I think super-jumps should be left to be discovered, so we know who the true Elite are.

Frank O’Connor said that super jumps may not be possible with the up-res. Once upped to 1080p, the glitch responsible for them wouldn’t always work, if at all. That was a few months back and there hasn’t been any word since, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

The Headlong string of bounces to get on top of X-Building (double bounce on top of crane, then double bounce to side of x-building on top of map, followed by two more bounces to get in top of x-building. If you were really adventurous you could get on top of other buildings will some additional bounces) There were countless other bounces, partner bounces, and multiple bounces in this map that made it to where you could literally bounce on top of anything where kill barrier did not exist.

The Backwash fall-bounce (no jump required) to get out of map

The Zanzibar bounces because they were all oh-so-easy, including multiple bounces… Like the one to get outside the barrier of the top of the map (you could even re break and re enter the map with ease when you ran out of ammo), the bounce to get on top of Froman, multiple places to bounce to get on wheel, and the easiest of all… The bounce to get on top of the flag base.

Ascension- Both bounces to get on top of either structure…

Burial Mounds… All the bounces outside the map- like the double bounce to get on top of the giant saucer. So many angles in that map meant so many multiple bounces!!! (Also bet most ppl didn’t know of the three or four other bounces to get outside the map!)

Lockout- yes, everyone knows about the bounce to get on top of lift. But what about the one over by sniper that required a little finesse to land just perfectly above the sniper!?

Sanctuary. This map had some of the easiest and some of the most difficult bounces to execute. The bounce to get up of tree (inside map) or the center structure worked 100% of the time… Meanwhile the bounces to get outside the map were extremely difficult and required pinpoint precision and timing of buttons to break the barrier. Also the jumps outside map to run full circle were difficult to spot and learn, even with tutorial vids!!

Terminal… Ahhhh yes, the backwards bounce over train to get outside the map!! So nostalgic, but who else knew about the bounces outside the map to get on top of the super tall buildings?? Took forever for me to conquer those!!

Turf- Oh how I missed to renown “crouch-bounce,” over the tent to break the barrier and get outside the map… Very few ppl knew out the bounces outside this map (no videos were ever posted on YouTube but these bounces got you to otherwise inaccessible locations!!)

Relic… The monster triple bounce to get you on top of the Relic made you the preverbal “King of the Hill,” in Halo 2. Since the top of the structure was outside the map, no banshee or vehicle could reach it. Therefore rare (because these crazy heights were inconsistent to achieve) “monster bounces,” had to be precisely executed to make it happen. There were bounces to get on other structures in this map I also miss.

Foundation. Another map with crazy angles, one could literally land five or more consecutive bounces will ease. Think my record was ten in a row without stopping. You could literally bounce your way on top of any structure and from almost anywhere in this map.

Wetworks. Never hurt to bounce on top of this map, though it was difficult to land it. There were some other tricky bounces to get into hard to reach spots that afforded wonderful hiding spots (great for hide and seek in custom matches).

Warlock. Never hurts to have a monster bounce that’s so simple to execute. And you got to pick which level you wanted to land on at the border of the map; each with it’s own unique places to explore and invisible bridges/barriers.

Containment. While no bounce was required to break this barrier (could be done with tactical jumping, spectre, or banshee with ease), this map was super fun to bounce to areas that were otherwise inaccessible inside the map. Hell, the highest points you could reach with bounces couldn’t even be reached with banshees, so these bounces really felt like an accomplishment (especially since they were inconsistent/rare to execute correctly)

Coagulation. The simple triple jumps, one from behind either base, another in front of portal, then another through the portal were so addictive. Especially blue base to get on top of either one of the three tall trees (if you were surgical like that). Other notable bounces were inside either base (during CTF you were a pro if you could literally Jump into base and wind up super bouncing out with the flag!!!) and the bounces to get above over shield into the sniper nest or the slanted rock in the cliffs above blue base.

Beaver Creek. None were of much value but nobody expected bounces here so if you could pull off the couple that existed in this map it could mesmerize your opposition long enough to get a couple easy kills.

Tombstone. The triple/quad bounces before they patched this map to add a low-ceiling death barrier were amazing!! The penalty was instant death for not landing multiple bounces to get to the one or two areas you could stand on safety outside the map (You’d literally die if you didn’t land the multiple bounces to reach these locations, lol!! How’s that for incentive??)

Super bounces could literally be done on almost every map (maybe not Midship) but I can’t really think of any other notable bounces. Those were all my favorite and if any are lacking from the MCC I’ll be a little let down… But I’m sure I’ll get over it with all the bonus content and upgraded graphics 343i is throwing at me!!

How the heck would the higher resolution stop the super jumps? That said…if that happens this may be good and bad news. It would stop people from expoiting Halo 2 in matchmaking, but would stop people from being able to enjoy that aspect in custom games and such.

The glitches were due to bugs in the havok engine, causing anomalies at certain points in the map. Upping the resolution changes the amount of pixels rendered on the screen, thus possibly altering the location or effect of the superbounces. It’s entirely possible that new bounces could be introduced. Time will tell what works and what doesn’t

Yeah, maybe… But it’s more likely that just fewer bounces will actually still work on the MCC; especially the pin-point bounces such as: barrier-breaking bounces, multiple bounces, fall bounces, and backwards bounces. Hopefully you’re right but bounces required angles- sharp, perfect angles (Many had to be exactly 45 degrees). Therefore if up-rendering these games offsets those angles somehow, then it may be either that bounces are slightly moved, or more than likely, many will be entirely unusable. If they’re slightly moved, then it’s just a matter of time before players discover the new niche and post the “trick,” on YouTube… However all this is just theorizing based on my knowledge of the bounces.

Good riddance. Superbouncing is super fun to have in custom games but has no place in matchmaking.

The thing is, this is a 10 year old game. People are playing it for nostalgia and fun with friends no one is playing it to be xxmlgproxx. Removal of superjumps and other glitches kills the nostalgia and ruins the silly fun the game used to have.

I’ve only seen 2 super bounces work and they both required you to be pretty high up. I’ve heard some people on a stream got some lock out ones to work.

I’d say that super bounces are still possible. But require you to be much higher and thus not practical for online use. Which is good.
