if cheif dies in halo 5 would you still play…would you respect 343 enough to trust them with a new charecter or is the cheif to much of a symbol?..by the way i doubt they would ever do that
I would respect it if he died destroying something immense in scale and dangerous on a galactic scale. But I doubt Microsoft would let it slide. Seriously I can’t think of any games anyway where the main charachter actually dies except Mass Effect.

exactly why i think it would be unique
Chief dies, Halo dies. You can’t kill the Spartan with the most luck on his side anyway.
It’s very uncommon to kill of the main character for good reasons, above all Chief is Halo, people care for Chief, not Noble team. Killing him no matter the reason would kill the sales, while killing of any number of side-characters could boost sales if done right.
However, even if Chief did die MS/343i could just replace him with another spartan, new voice same armour, or new colours/voice, same basic design. It would serve no purpose, and wouldn’t add anything to the game, since Chief is already faceless and unknown. For all we know, he could be just like The Phantom, the guy behind the mask can get killed but his son/predecessor picks it up and no one knows the difference, hence he’s “immortal and scary”.
There are plenty of games where this scenario happens; nearly to the point where it is sickening. Tv tropes is your friend if you want to know what games do this.
If chief were to die, his role on the Halo games is so minuscule, any armored soldier could very much fill his shoes. Why? Because plot or what the game prefers refer as “luck”.

Kind of like Batman.
It would be unlikely that they killed him off im Halo 6. But if they do…they better not screw it up!
He deserves a good death but he deserves to live even more
I’ll stick with halo till the end - even if it turned into the worst franchise (which i’m confident would never happen). If they killed chief off for a noble reason then i would respect it.
From all they stuff he has survived, I say they better make it be something good if he were to die. Better not be from old age or a heart attack or something. I don’t even know if the halo rings all firing would be good enough to kill him in the story haha
It really shouldn’t happen. Master Chief is Halo. Halo is Master Chief. You can’t have one or the other. The other games like Reach and ODST were fine but to make the entire series live on without him… just no…
Even Cortana… I really hope she’s saved.
No. Unacceptable. Maybe in Halo 6.

Still, a Spartan’s death should be in a battlefield. I think every Spartan would want that. And considering all the things the Chief did, it would have to be an unbelievably spectacular death.
I don’t want Chief to die, he’s like Mario to me. But his death wouldn’t repel me from Halo.

Exactly, since we’ve not seen Chief without helmet (no face) he can be anyone, and hence he could be replaced without any of us noticing. For all we know, the real John-117 died years ago during first strike, and new highly trained soldiers have taken his place, one after another. Changing ones voice is not that hard, especially not with all the high tech equipment ONI got ^^
I’d cry and fall into a depression, idk if i’d finish the trilogy without chief…Unless hes revived in H6. Don’t think thoughts like that man, blasphemy…
If he dies in Halo 5, what will they do for Halo 6? Chief definitely won’t die in Halo 5, and I don’t think he should die in Halo 6 unless 343 makes it the most epic and tragic death ever. He deserves it.

Unless you choose Destroy.
Anyway, I wouldn’t mind him dying in Halo 6. Not Halo 5, since they have a whole other game to get through in the Reclaimer trilogy lol.
Games where main characters die can actually be pretty common and actually bittersweet. I believe the main male protagonist dies in FF10, The Doom Marine is basically dead at the end of Doom II, Megaman is dead by the events of Megaman X, Sonic died in Sonic 2006 (but was resurrected, so it may not really count lol), Altair died in AC Revelations, several of the characters you play as in CoD games die, the hero in Fable 1 and 2 both die, I’m pretty sure Fallout 3 ended with your death (might be wrong about that one though).
But anyway there are plenty of games where the hero, or a main protagonist dies. Or at the very least where it’s possible to die in one of many endings after beating the game.
