If you're on the fence about Infinite, what's a deal breaker?

If you’re currently on the fence about getting Infinite, as I am, what are your biggest concerns? If you’d like to respond and include positives that are getting you excited, that is welcome as well!

  • No co-op
  • No forge
  • No assassinations
  • No playable elites
  • No dual-wielding
  • Not expecting enough biome diversity in campaign
  • Not expecting enough character customization for a $60 game
  • Not expecting the story to be good
  • Not having a new console or PC to get the full experience

Personally I’ve realized that I could overlook the lack of co-op and forge at launch (all though I am still sour about 343 breaking very explicit promises to the community,) but I’m concerned about the campaign. It really feels like it’s just a… jumping off point. Don’t get me wrong, I think it could be a jumping off point for something good, but I’m concerned that it won’t be the same well crafted narrative experience I enjoyed in 3, Reach, and ODST. I’m concerned that the repetitive biome might be boring, and from what I’ve seen I felt that the campaign trailer was fairly cheesy… I would really love to see Halo being more serious, not less serious.

I’m also majorly turned off by the removal of assassinations. They were a fun and immersive part of the combat flow since Reach.

Lastly, I would really like to give this game the best chance I can to be good, and in my mind that means experiencing it on a next gen console. With the Series X hardly available and $500 when it is, that’s hard to swing. Particularly considering that the Series X has no optical port, I would also have to replace my receiver and spend another couple hundred dollars to get a receiver that can pass 4K video. I would love to hop right in and experience the campaign day one like I have since Halo 3, but after the disappointment of 4 and 5 and my concerns about Infinite I’m really starting to consider waiting for a few months to see if assassinations are added and Series X prices go down at all.

Everybody is going to get its MP. What you are saying is what matters for Single-Player.

Obviously story is most important, everything else is just fluff as far as I’m concerned.

Wait, what the freak? This is the first time I’ve heard of this. Why on earth would they remove those?

I voted no Elites and no forge, since, of all the items in that list, those would be the two I would be most disappointed by. I really don’t care about character customization and actually don’t want there to be dual wielding.

Fair enough points! Sadly while forge is confirmed to be coming later, we’ve had no word on playable elites.

While I’m not personally broken up about no playable elites in the campaign, not having them for an Invasion style multiplayer mode is one of the reasons I won’t be playing much multiplayer. I just love being immersed in it and Invasion felt like a good move towards that.

I would love it if we could play as the Arbiter in campaign again at some point, but I’d also be fine with the Arbiter just factoring into the story without being playable.

As far as multiplayer, I would be happy to just be able to play as Elites in custom games and certain game types.

THATS AN EXCELLENT QUESTION!

I’ve heard some thoughts that it’s because it isn’t as useful in MP, but I really think it just got lost in the dev crunch. Either that or just reflects a game crafted for multiplayer with a campaign built using that sandbox.

Which is the opposite of what I would want lol…

No Forge and Co-op are both kind of a slap in the face to me since those are the 2 biggest things I was looking forward to. I don’t plan on buying the campaign until my friends and I can all experience it together. I don’t let those ruin my hype for the game entirely, but definitely left me a bit sore when they first announced those delays (though I am thankful that they are taking the time to release them in a functional state).

I’ve heard they’re adding undo and redo to forge. Frankly, that’s a quality-of-life feature that should have been part of forge from the start, but I’m glad they’re finally adding it!

Yeah, I’m very excited to see the improvements and innovations in Forge for Infinite, especially after the huge leap in Quality from H4/2A to H5. That’s part of why I was so disappointed for a several month delay, but I hope that gives them time to polish it up and get it working well.

I’ve only messed around with Reach’s forge, so trying out Infinite’s will most likely be a massive step up.

Halo 5 is currently sitting on in my Xbox waiting to be played once I’m done with Halo 4 on my PC. But I don’t have Xbox Live and don’t really want to get it for just one game, so sadly I won’t be able to play Halo 5’s multiplayer.

I think Halo 5: Forge and custom games are free on PC.

It’s on the Microsoft Store called “Halo 5: Forge Bundle” if you want to try it on your PC. You can’t play the full matchmaking multiplayer but forge and custom browser are on the PC build with no need for Gold I think. I just saw that you mentioned you have a PC and that reminded me of H5: Forge on PC.

Yeah, I’ve heard of it, though I imagine the player base is much smaller than on console, since I don’t think there would be cross-platform play, right?

Also, I’ve heard people tend to post server images with nudity. That’s something I would want to avoid…

  1. None of them opitons the main thing for me after playing the beta was the aiming on control pad halo’s shooting has always been fun but it seems they catering for the Eports market to much and making it more difficult, i spent so much time in the options playing around with the settings to try and make it better ive never done that in any halo or even any fps game. if they want that so much then just add a esports mode. hopefully the little changes they made due the to the massive feedback makes it a bit better.

No forge and no co-op for me, I’d also mention that I doubt the story will be good but I can’t pick a third option.

Missing core features in a AAA game is just sad for a 2021 game and I’m going to always voice that👍 Less bang for buck hurts justifying its price.

I’ve no care for the multiplayer anymore because it hasn’t played like a halo game ever since Reach for me and H5 was my last care on trying and hoping.

Aw dang! I’m sorry, I meant to set the max to all 9 but it won’t let me edit it now. Hugely agreed on multiplayer… would love to see more battlefield esque Halo multiplayer with immersive in-canon experiences.

I didn’t personally experience the aim as terrible, curious to see how it works in the campaign.

Definitely agree about the esports thing though… I really don’t understand why we have to cater to that so much. I miss when multiplayer was built from campaign, and campaign was built to be fun. Now the campaign is built from multiplayer and the multiplayer is built to be “balanced” and “competitive.”

Those unfunny and chatty A.I voices talking over every match is turning me off multiplayer singlehandedly.

For me the lack of Forge is a big one. It depends on how much content the multiplayer launches with, but I’m not expecting much, therefore the lack of Forge could cause the game to get old quickly. I’m very happy with what I’ve seen of Forge so far though.

So for me I guess the dealbreaker/maker for me is content; How much will I actually be able to do and/or tweak at launch? How well does the open world campaign work? How much can I actually play with friends? And do I have to play it 343’s way?
