Several people are discussing how to fix sprint or remove sprint entirely from the game. Then some are saying that sprint is perfect just the way it is. I personally am not opposed to sprint, but its those instances when you’re about to land the last shot that someone just finds cover and sprints away. This really ANNOYS me!
Here is my solution:
You can sprint whenever you like, indefinitely, but as soon as your shields are less than or equal to 50% then you can no longer sprint until you shields are fully recovered. We can debate and find a good percentage value for when sprint should be disabled, but this is my proposition.
only way i would change sprint is to make it drain your shields until they are gone. then you cant sprint until you have shields back again and it starts over.
but i like how it is for now. lets see how it plays in the final version of the game.

I agree with you, but thruster seems to be fair since you can only use it once every so often and it only moves you in one pre-determined direction a short distance.

Now imagine if sprint wasn’t in the game like Halo 3.

The game already punishes you for making bad decisions and if you can’t punish someone when they make one is all on you. People get away just as often in the older games as they do now.
Personally I like the IDEA of sprint and thruster BUT to me they are causing balancing issues. I die a lot of the time due to sprint delaying shield recharge or thrusting into the tiniest pointless doorway ledge (Empire). I understand that the shield delay is to balance sprint but when shields are the weakest they’ve ever been it balance gets stuck between a rock and a hard place. Whenever Im about to land my last shot at a distance they enemy always sprints or thrusts to cover just in time, usually this wouldn’t be a problem for me on any other halo but when it is impossible to go flank your enemy because you can easily get 4 shotted across the map it becomes more frustrating than ever.

It is true and I know that. If they are thrusting and getting away from you then its clear they didn’t make a bad decision. They challenged you and saw that they might lose so they took a safer option. A bad move and challenge would be attacking without having a clear exit plan.

I’m pretty sure if someone doesn’t try to escape an upcoming death, then they just run and gun thinking they can kill anyone at all so long as the bullets they shoot hit people. I would know because I use to play like that a lot back in the days of Reach.

My question is why anyone would sprint when shields are down anyway.
Sprint is here. It is a major addition and with major additions, no developer ever says they made a mistake or say maybe we didn’t need said feature. What I’m getting to is, Halo now has sprint. Ideas such as remove sprint with no shield is not constructive criticism.
People might get away from you. But the vice versa also applies. I’ve gotten away from plenty of near death situations. This is the way I look at it.
The game has changed a bit. People can quickly thrust to the left behind a wall to avoid getting hit by that final BR shot. People can run far away to safety very quickly (and any good Halo player knows chasing is a bad idea). Literally one second of damage greatly depletes your health by any weapon.
Simple fixes such as weapon/grenade balancing and tweaks, changes to aim assist (bullet magnetism), and reducing sprint speed/high mobility will make the game more skill-based. This should be the focus of the community.
It seems as though thruster may be the bigger underlying frustration. I have yet to see someone run away without first performing crazy thruster getaways. If you can’t perform a basic stage behind objects to avoid fire and need a crazy boost to assist then fine, but don’t stick everyone else with a “semi” useless function. I know everyone flips out at the mention of different loadouts, but I’m not talking about different weapon starts, just different abilities. Make clamber and thruster separate choices but don’t have both given. I see people Sprint thruster jump across maps and clamber an impossible ledge. And then just throw in some other exchangeable abilities. They really weren’t that bad in reach and 4. Have decoy, camo, regen, and if I won’t be executed for suggesting it, jetpack.

If your shields are less than 100% you cannot sprint.
But seriously, if you take damage of any form, you should not be able to sprint.
