Let’s say you’re an Admiral; you work alongside Lord Hood and Osman and the like. You just discovered that Master Chief, arguably the UNSC’s greatest asset who has been missing for nearly five years, has returned to Earth following the New Phoenix Incident. Considering the current political climate (i.e. non-game media), what would you assign Chief to do?
How would you use Master Chief to benefit the UNSC post New Phoenix?
This may sound like a joke, but i would Order Chief to Locate the UNSC Armor Specialist who decided to Replace the Marine BDU from Actual Effective Armor to Paintball Gear, and Assassinate him
if i was commanding any part of the UNSC Navy, i wouldn’t be sending in Marines with Cheap Plastic Armor that couldn’t protect them from falling Snowflakes
I’d have him take some shore leave, because he freaking deserves some. Then I’d have him train the Spartan IVs, possibly have him work alongside Blue Team in helping train the Spartan IVs.
First, I would give him his pay check for all his career service hours from conscription.
Then I would order him some place tropical for a few months shore leave.
After, I’d re-unite him with Blue team and start deploying them in high priority missions.
Using them to train Spartan IVs would be a waste of their talents. I would get Mendez, Tom and Lucy to train the Spartan IVs. I would also demote Palmer as Spartan Commander and replace her with Tom.
With around two strait years of fighting, First a debrief, followed by 4 weeks of shore leave with medical check ups and exercise. Then take him on tour to boost moral, with some locations used as cover for Black-Ops against Innies or Covies targets, with time between locations used for teaching him the new strategies such as Rio’s “Blow Through Op”. Then off to regroup with Blue Team to train IVs. Before needing him for what H5 is going to bring to the table.

Actually they are. Bungie didn’t really make a big difference between the Army troopers and Marines, but the Marines have a closed helmet along with a grey color scale as seen here
Regardless, 343 decides to give them incredibly stupid armor which pist me the -Yoink- off.

The BDU in Halo 4 seems to cover just as many areas with just as much protection as the Reach BDU that you pointed out, it’s just aesthetically different.
I’d probably give the Chief a couple of weeks off - I’m sure that he’d hate too much shore leave - and then reunite him with Blue Team before sending them off to do their thing. Maybe attach them to the Infinity with the Spartan IVs.
Assets like Chief and Blue Team are far too valuable to waste on training. Same goes for the rest of the IIs.

Damn, I should double check before trying to correct someone xP
A Long debrief starting from the moment he immediately left Cairo Station to the moment he returned to Infinity to remove his armor. Everything will be recorded and heavily analyzed.
Then stringent Medical checkups including some invasive stuff, to test whether he hasn’t been subtly infected by the Flood due to his long exposure to the Infection forms and then trying to decipher what the Librarian did with the Chief.
[This will be somewhat uncomfortable for the weary Chief, but I’m sorry, protocol is protocol.]
After everything is given an all clear signal, then comes the rehab sessions and psycho analyzing of the Spartan by a world class team of psychologists and neuro surgeons and experts.
After that, maybe a 15 to 20 days of full rest, a chance to catch with the new world or to let him meet up with the other Spartans (his own as well as the SIIIs)
Use his return as a propaganda weapon to boost morale of the UNSC troops and make the Innies and Covie remnants shiver in their timbers.
I’m sure there will always be a sensitive mission in the post war UNSC which will need the expertise of a Spartan II to handle it, so I’ll give him the brand new Mjolnir Mark VII armor and ship him off immediately to his next assignment.
Give him his pay becuase he would probably be a millionaire or something by now.
Shore leave because he’s been in that armour for years now. maybe he can get a tan or something?
Bring him to all the surviving spartan II’s who are currently not M.I.A
As of after the events of spartan ops…Informing him and the spartan II’s about what became of Dr. Halsey…maybe they can stage a rescue and prove that halseys actions during the war were justified.
