343 is talking how they want to make Halo 4 their own and not a carbon copy of what Bungie did. Having Sprint is not only using ideas from Reach, but from CoD, BF, and most games today. If 343 wants to be unique, they should just bag sprint.
there is no comparison between Halo and ‘other’ games.
Plenty of games don’t have sprint.
By your logic it’s a lose/lose situation.
Yeah sprint is cool and all but alot of games are doing it now which makes it old we want something new like Hologram But you can controlle it that would be cool.
OK, I’m against sprint. But this thread was really pointless. By your logic they should scrap all ideas from past games. Not true, they should scrap the bad ones.
And sprint was a bad idea.
Keep sprint in the game.

Using this logic, 343i should just scrap weapons, melee, a hud, multiplayer, campaign, and anything else that another game has done before it.
Watch, people will get used to sprint in no time, then it will be like it was there the whole time.
Just wait

There is now that they have some of the same features.

Probably because the older fans will leave, eventually only leaving the ones who started with Reach.
> And sprint was a bad idea.
I’m not arguing with you there, but this thread ultimatly achieves nothing, because you haven’t explained WHY sprint is a bad idea.

I am an older fan, have been since CE and IM NOT GOING ANYWHERE
So having a basic mechanic in your game like sprinting is going to ruin the uniqueness of it?
Sprint is so basic. It’s on the same level as jumping. If you can jump in Halo 4, then it isn’t your own since it’s taking a basic motion mechanic from other games, right?
You’re wacky buddy.

No. They’re not the same thing. Jumping adds another dimension to movement. Sprinting just makes you go faster on the same plane that already existed with movement. It doesn’t add anything to the game, therefore there is no need for it.

Sprint adds a few things. It helps for general movement, it can help close the distance on an opponent with a close-range or melee weapon, it can be used for escape if necessary. It does add to the gameplay, and it can be useful in quite a few situations.
Besides, why is adding another dimension to movement a positive? If you’re going to say that you need to add why it is beneficial to gameplay.
Both sprint and jump are on the same level of being basic motion mechanics. The only motion mechanic more basic is pushing the analog stick to move in that direction. Saying that sprint shouldn’t be in the game because it’s featured in other games is exactly like saying jump shouldn’t be in for the same reason. They’re both so simple, saying that they belong to any game is like trying to patent oxygen.
If you wanted to argue against sprint on the basis of whether or not it is conducive to good gameplay, that is valid. But the OP does not have a legitimate point.
I was playing Halo 3 the other day and I have to say I was thinking on certain maps sprint would have been nice. I would support sprint as an optional playlist. If the whole competitive community wants to play without it, then by all means. What it does for me is allows you to spawn away from the combat, but get to it quicker once you spawn.
