The site has to be faster. I’m not sure what’s up with the servers, or why it takes so long to load pages, perform actions, but part of bungie’s success was because of their community on bnet.
Slow loading times discourage me from wanting to get on this forum more often.
Just a thought/rant.
I have only been on the past two nights, but Battelog and Elite have faster load times than this, and they’re horrible services…
I wouldn’t think the loading times with pages would make it a better or worse community. The Pages loading up and the actually community don’t really relate to each other. Although, I can agree that loading pages can become annoying, I don’t believe they would overall effect the community in any way.
I agree, for this being “The Official Halo site” it sure does have a HUGE share of issues. It took 15 mins. to load a page. Making a reply was stuck in limbo, trying to post it. Then I look down, the page is still loading but it already posted it.
I also feel like it takes FOREVER to view game stats. I used to try and help people with the “why did I get banned” thread, but it would take 45 mins to look at 3-5 games. It became to time consuming. Bungies pages for the game stats used to load right up, and then you could flip to the next game.
I don’t however think it’ll make a “better” community, just a happier one.
Give them time. 343 is trying to setup Halo 4 and its stat tracking. Not to mention they haven’t had years of experience like Bungie when it came to running a site.

Time? This forum has been live for almost 2 years.

Actually, this version has only be live since November. The Beta forums were very different.

Stop trying to argue semantics. The Halo Waypoint forums have existed for almost two years. Its not a whole new forum every time they make an update.

Uh, this version is an almost complete overhaul from the Beta. Plus, since 343 is devoting the majority of their time to developing Halo 4, the forums aren’t as high a priority.

If I can remember correctly, the beta forums were faster.
OT: I do not think faster forum software will make for a better community, if anything, slower forums will detract trolls and people who don’t want to be around here and discuss Halo in the first place.
But I do agree, these forums really need to be faster. But I will continue to use them no matter what because I love this community and I love talking about Halo.

There’s more to having a great community than just faster load times on web pages.
You can have a great community, even with forums that are slow at loading. It’s the community members that are the key to the community, not the load times.

Let me also point out that Bungie had over 10 years in site development, 343 has had 2 years. You can’t compare the two.

The only way you can compare the two, is if you compare how the forums/site worked back when it was 2 years old, which I bet Bungie’s was slower than 343i’s because : #1 Internet back then was SLOWER! #2 Bungie’s forums is all custom coded, these forums are using premade forum software.

A community is not only members, there are thousands of non-members out there that try to visit the site and forums just trying to get some information directly from the developer or its community topics and don’t want to be members and its inexcusable for 343i to still have these issues when Halo 4 is steps away from being released to the -Yoink!-.

And you’re saying that like Waypoint is the only location on the internet where the Halo community goes.
Should the forums not be so slow, YES, but that doesn’t mean that the community is going to suffer hugely from the slowness of the forums.

The community is suffering because the issue still exists and people are still complaining. The Information delivered online flows almost as quickly as it happens and Waypoint fails in this aspect.
With respect to other websites for information there are some but Waypoint is the information highway and without a workable API what can other sites deliver to a mass number of users without a redirection to Waypoint for stats which is one of their biggest issues at the moment.

Halo 4 will probably have an API. Plus, it’s not like having a slow website will cause the community to crumble.
