Okay, so I know a couple of you have your grievances with the Halo: Reach Armor Ability but to be honest, it was a very interesting application to the Halo series and I’m convinced that Armor Lock’s removal was a mistake that should be reverted back into the series just as the original Halo scoping should be.
First of all, it took coordination to reach its full potential of saving isolated teammates from a premature death or forcing the enemy to change targets. So to bring a valid scenario to the table, say you hiked a little too far into the enemy territory and you have 3 enemy BRs pointed directly at you and you have either the option of taking the dirt nap that you tripped into or activating the guardian angel ability that is Armor Lock giving your team time to come and rescue you. Armor Lock was arguably a better design choice than Drop and Bubble Shield because those did the exact same thing but broke balance because of the fact that it could hold more than one player in the state of an what is essentially a larger Armor Lock.
I will admit that Armor Lock being capable of destroying charging vehicles instantly was probably its biggest gameplay flaw because of the fact that it punishes vehicle users who aren’t aware of who has and doesn’t have the armor ability which discourages the joyous pandemonium we can obtain after grinding an enemy Spartan into concrete with your freshly pumped tires. So if this feature is to be revived, 343 is gonna have to give players an indicator of Armor Lock users like maybe a slight glowing effect similar to the Inclement Weather cosmetic effect.
So to continue my plea, I will add that it wouldn’t even be hard to implement as a Spartan Ability or even a map pick up. As a Spartan Ability you can activate it by pressing both triggers at the same time or as a pick up it can be used the same as in Reach. So despite the maybe 2 times where the armor ability made your blood boil because of superior tactical preparation, we can all come to a consensus that Armor Lock should return as maybe a Spartan Ability.
I would like to hear what you guys have to say and think. Please don’t be shy guys I think this needs to be heard
The original halo scope I’m indifferent but I do prefer it. Armor lock can burn in ****. It was just an inconvenience to everyone going into armor lock almost never saved you only let you live for a couple more seconds.
Any one who wants armor lock back needs their head checked. It without a doubt is the WORSE thing ever in Halo… absolute worse… even worse than Spartan charge. It’s sad to see players want it back.
No, there’s a reason they got rid of it. The bubble shield in h3 is better as 1. It’s an in map pickup and not something you spawn with. 2. Can be attacked by simply walking in, armor lock gave player invulnerability 3. Didn’t slow map flow near as much since it was a spawnsble item on s timer rather than something you carry with you all game long.
Armor lock was, and still is, the worst thing to ever be put in a Halo game. If you think that the feature would work better now that time has passed, you are wrong.
Best example is Overwatch. In the game you can play as Mei, and guess what one of her abilities is(more or less)? She has the ability to encase herself in an indestructible ice casing, halting gameplay until it runs out or she leaves it. Sounds familiar? Yup, just like armor lock, and just like the infamous ability from Reach, most people hate Mei and her abilities.
Bring armor lock back? What in the world? Please get this man a doctor!
Edit: To be a little more constructive, I see no valid place for it the game. It wouldn’t work very well in Arena, and any competitive arena player would agree. It’s adding something new for the sake of mixing up gameplay and strategy when in reality, Halo is already one of the most methodical shooters in my opinion. Unlike other games, TTK is fairly high and gives players opportunities for reversals and hiding to buy time.
Armour lock is fine in campaign, but I would much prefer to use a bubble shield, at least you can be killed if some one literally just walks in and chucks a plasm grenade in your face, in reach they just bounced off. Destroying vehicles with it was pretty fun and annoying for the driver.
NO! You can un-stick a sticky grenade then go invincible while it explodes with that Armor Lock nonsense. No way. Nope. Absolutely not. The only way I would accept it is if it drained your shields so when you came out of it you were one-shot. Who do you think you are running around blowing up vehicles, EMPing everybody, removing plasma grenades from yourself, deflecting rockets. Get outta here. Worst thing in Halo ever.
OP, do you just utterly despise vehicles? They’re bad enough in Halo 5. We don’t need Halo 6 to have them as an annoyance for the user in every single way.

That’s the problem right there, you should be dead because the enemy capitalized on the mistake that you made, and the enemy team should get a point from your kill. Armor Lock literally stops the battle and is a literal “get out of jail” free card to fix a mistake that you completely made.
You shouldn’t be alone in enemy territory, you should have been with a team and strive to obtain the advantage in your situation. Armor Lock is a pause button.
Even something as simple as Plasma Grenades are ruined by Armor Lock. If you were stuck by one, either you had bad positioning or the enemy has good enough aim. Armor Lock can literally remove the stuck Plasma Grenade, dealing no damage, and fixes a death that was supposed to be guaranteed.
I was never able to adequately utilize Armor Lock like other people, so I wasn’t a huge fan.
That being said, Armor Abilities from Reach and 4 cause a huge upset in the Halo multiplayer community, and shouldn’t return. And even if every Spartan were given Armor Lock (like how every Spartan now has Sprint), I still wouldn’t like it nor want it back.
If you think about it, armor lock was a plague on the name of Halo and should never return. Jetpack, Promethean Vision, active camo as an AA, are all in the same boat.
It didn’t take “coordination” to reach its max potential. It negated every power weapon in the game, made melee fights into “who has armor lock” contests and turned interesting fights for map control and power weapons into stale contests of who can press their ‘get out of jail free card’ button fastest.
I will post a more objective post when I have the time, but as you can tell I am no fan of armor lock or any of the armor abilities. They were horrible ideas and should NOT return. They weren’t balanced, fun, or even interesting. They weren’t even exciting in campaign/Firefight. They were just a gimmick that was added in a vain attempt to modernize Halo. Spartan abilities are much more natural, even if I dislike them at times.
Why not incorporate Armor Lock and the rest of the Reach armor abilities as exclusives for Warzone Firefight? That would be a huge help, especially for Mythic Firefight.
Armour lock was my personal favourite ability. The only reason was cuz I often got stuck or nade spammed… I started using it and the amount of times I distracted enemies, stopped myself from being assassinated, destroyed vehicles, armour lock melee glitch, deflected rockets and stop myself from being stuck or naded.
It should come back but it should be able to stay for 3-5 seconds while active

BTB would be the only mode I’d like to see armour lock in but otherwise no…
