If you pay for cosmetics

People want things to go back to how they used to be, but honestly I’m not sure they ever can with what’s required to make a game successful as a multiplayer game in this day and age.

There are plenty of drawbacks, but plenty of benefits too. I’m in the camp where I could play a game for years with default skin and no progression system provided it had great gameplay/competitive play that adds over time. I know there are many that prefer what I don’t so it’s an ever clashing battle to capture as many people as they can.

Yeah but giving you the option to pay or unlock by playing the game with random loot boxes is fine.

Who cares if it’s monetized if you can also unlock for free.

It’s giving the player that option for free progression that is key.

So making a game with paid progression is necessary to ensuring that it survives ?

This game is due to be supported for 10 years. That cannot be done with a one-time payment bundled with a campaign.

I am a firm believer you should be able to grind out credits slowly (even made a topic suggesting store credit for watching HCS tournaments) but that didn’t have much interaction.

That way someone can earn their battle pass to level 100 and buy it to get everything else when they have enough credit built up.

Its all good. You still don’t see the big picture and it’s clear my frustration isnt going to open your eyes up. History always repeats itself. 343 is like a crappy coach on a good sports team. The team in this case is nostalgia. It puts food on the table for 343. They’re doing the halo title dirty at this stage.

Oh I find that ridiculous too.

I don’t believe Halo Infinite should be the next ten years of Halo. I’d rather get a proper series X exclusive sequel in a few years .

In ten years this game will be very dated.

And if you’re paid progression ends up angering all the fans and causes them to stop playing then there goes your ten year model.

You might not even sustain the base for 1 or 2 years

I must be getting old. I was in high-school during the release of the original Halo trilogy… I was a serious gamer in a time when gaming wasn’t a scam and when we got a a new sequel every few years it felt like a significant upgrade over the previous entry.

When a new console launched it actually had exclusive games that took advantage of the next generation consoles new hardware… I miss those days

thats why the bs of today is such a tough pill to swallow

A game as good as this and F2P will not lose it’s player base in 2 years.

Yes it will. The current gameplay is not stable enough to keep people roped in long enough. Add a failure progression system and you’ll have people onto the next hot ticket item in gaming in no time.

Exactly.

It’s a new Halo game. Of course the MP is going to be praised on launch.

But the sandbox and maps are actually trash.

And if not enough people pay for cosmetics then 343s support will probably see nosedive. I can’t see people paying over and over again for armor the way 343 wants them to.

Especially with so many upset about it and not feeling it.

Yeap. Worst maps in any of the halo’s. I’m being serious. Lazy design based around lazy jumping and clambering mechanics. No special touches to jumpable textures like H3 had. They play like -Yoink!- and leave little to be desired. I told my brother early, I honestly can’t name a map that I look forward to playing. I sigh everytime any of them show up, as if another option is any better lol.

Side note…. The sniper might also be the worst in any halo title

The maps are awful.

It makes me realize just how good the maps were in Halo 5. There’s nothing that makes any of them unique or that make them require different tactics.

They’re very simple. Hallways, corridors, and some sort of open areas… but nothing unique.

It’s a shame too. I noticed a lot of fun easter eggs and details on the night time city map. The arcade area had some brilliant adds. But at the end of the day its like slapping lipstick on a pig.

The graphics are definitely nice on certain maps. I wish Halo 5 had Infinites level of fidelity but that’s about it…

There’s two types of gamers:

  • those who fight to ensure gaming experience costs less to enjoy the game
  • those who defend the companies to ensure the costs stay expensive

What about those who appreciate that developing the game comes with a cost and therefore are happy to support?

It’s already dated tbh. Bots were integrated into MP back with Perfect Dark Zero, and that’s one of the few innovative features that is decent in this game. Tutorial was lame and seemed like something that could be made 10 years ago. Weapon Drills are super simple and not-so inventive. Armor, Emblems, and ID tags can’t be created by the community and uploaded into the game or at the least freedom to customize. Settings while plentiful are very limited in certain areas, and nobody knows how to set aiming controls, which should be automatically calculated to assist the user. It copies monetization models that have been around for years.

It really could be an entire thread on this, but what’s the point. It is what it is and the game is unfinished, which makes you wonder where their resources were going the last 6 years. People are mostly upset cause of the potential the game has and how it misses on so many things.

That goes under “those who defend the company to make sure it stays expensive”
I’ll gladly support the developers, I want to, but there’s a limit, and that limit is going to restrict me from enjoying all the features of the game passed a certain point in time without going over that limit. So I think many will be hesitant to support it to begin with.

Maybe they had a VERY rough time making the engine? Just spitballing here.

It is a F2P game, so they do have to monetize somehow.
Yes, no one asked for Halo’s MP to be F2P. But I am not sure if we would achieve anything by constantly bringing that up, its a F2P game, end of.
What would be an acceptable monetization path in this case? What should be up for sale and what should be free?
How much should the things cost?
