Some people are reporting significant performance improvements after closing MSI afterburner. One person said their framerate doubled.
Might help you or it might not, but if you run afterburner it’s worth a try.

Thank you this helped a lot!
Rule of the thumb is GPU Overclocking software should generally be one of the first things to disable if performance is problematic. You may also get the same results out of adjusting or turning off Wattman or Geforce Experience.

Some people are reporting that Riva tuner is actually the culprit and turning off all of the monitoring features greatly improves performance.
Also closing afterburner keeps your OC until restart.
Cant wait to try this. Not only Riva tuner doesnt show fps in Halo, Im also running Afterburner for nothing basically. Never used it for anything else than to show fps in games. Game was running terribly on RTX 3080.

Report back with your results and maybe it can help others, also if it turns out to be a widespread issue it could be fixed.

Most fps counter software outside of maybe Reshade has a similar effect, and have historically. Afterburner and it’s software suite in particular are especially notorious for this among game modding scenes. Those and FRAPS.
And, I was assuming people understood how Afterburner worked if they’re using it. People uh, shouldn’t be overclocking anything unless they understand how the software they’re using works.
But, even then, you still can’t discount your OC being the culprit in a lot of cases as well. Some games play better with OC than others.

No, fps counter software doesn’t have the effect of cutting your performance in half. What are you on about?

I’m sorry you’re getting toxicity about it.
but also, if supporting the project makes you want to quit, maybe you should? No hate, just saying. Thats a little depressing to read. If you’re questioning your values over open source software, stop doing it.
There is a rare bug in afterburner that happened to me few times before, that when exiting it, it sets the fan curve to 0 rpm, and the only time it turns on the fan is if the safety precautions of the card kicks in at 90c+. Happened to me on both my 1070 and 2070, it hasnt happened yet on my 3070 but I really try to avoid closing the ab/rt on system tray.
