I very much miss Halo 5 movement systems and naturally given armor abilities. I feel stupid everytime i try to thrust dodge, ground pound, or spartan charge in infinite. It feels like wings were clipped.
Yes. That’s exactly how I feel. All the fun has been sucked out of it.
A great example of why Halo 5 is fun but shouldn’t have been a Halo game is Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. AC4 is fantastic and incredibly fun but inarguably a bad assassins creed game because it barely resembles anything about other AC games and just used the name to help sales probably. If AC4 had been it’s own new IP more games like it probably would have followed but since AC fans wanted AC and not pirates AC4 was a one off.
H5 had some fun parts to it but t definitely wasn’t the Halo many fans wanted. Infinite feels so much like 3 with just modern movement mechanics reminiscent of Destiny. I like the sandbox much more in Infinite because H5 just felt like a pistol fest (which is how every Halo game goes when there are mid range precision weapon spawns) and Infinite fixed that by giving us AR spawns.
Wow look at all the ways you can run from a fight
So neat.
It’s sad because that’s how the Spartans fought in the books. Flips, acrobatics, thrusting. Yes Spartans quite literally Spartans fight like iron man pretty much. I love that. I wish it was apart of Halo again because that’s what feels like most Halo to me. Lore accurate gameplay. And it was done well. Yeah I guess it could be another game but it won’t feel the same as Halo.
I don’t like the compromise. It feels nothing like Halo 3 to me.
That doesn’t make sense at all. If I thrust away from you. You can thrust towards me. If I thrust slide away you can thrust slide too. There is no “getting away”. If you time everything correctly you can kill the other person every single time no matter how fast they are going.
In fact Halo infinite is slower. I finish fights faster in halo 5 because I’m able to do more. I’m able to juke more. I’m able to get to higher ledges. I’m able to get to places faster not just by speed but skilled map traversal. Now I’m stuck in place and so is the other person so if we are both peak shooting it’s going to take forever to end the battle. Going out in the open is also a death sentence because you have no where to go.
What’s funny is that now there is such a thing as “getting away” because if you pick up a thruster and your enemeny doesn’t have one you can escape whatever comes your way and the enemy can’t match your movements because they do not have the thrust.
You got it backwards. In halo ifinite your able to “get away”. Not halo 5
Id rather some people have limited and varied get out of jail free cards that they have to actually pursue on a map than have everyone constantly trying to “juke” eachother in literally the most obnoxious gameplay loop ever.
Get shot once>run away>get shields up> gunfight> Dash>zoom>dash
Its like bruh. Such a goofy and obnoxious gameplay loop to watch and experience, so happy they dropped that rubbish
The only reason H5 lasted past 3 months was that it was a Halo title and you got tricked into playing it for years
No thank you
I could make a whole thread as to why I hate that Halo has books, shows, and movies. I think very few series should ever go across multiple mediums. Halo is definitely not the worst offender here. Star Wars does this, in the books stupid stuff would happen like Palpatine being able to summon a black whole with the force or in the games Starkiller brings down a star destroyer with the force. Stuff like that is so unbelievable to movie only audiences and fans of the books will think the movies don’t do enough to show the expanded universe.
It can be done right, but it’s very hard. You have to make sure the new medium matches up to the original. Halo did not do this with the books, I know a book released right before CE but CE was in development way longer than the book so the game lore came first. In the games Chief acts a certain way. That’s why I absolutely will die on a hill that Halo 4 is the worst Halo game. Along with many agregious stupid decisions they made characters make just to give fake drama, such as no one believing Chief about a world ending threat and just wants to do their own thing, no one in their right mind would ever doubt someone with his credentials on something that, they also made Chief a comepletly character. People say he is more like the books now and I don’t care, that’s not the Chief fans of the games came to know. He does stuff we feel like he shouldn’t. Also how am I supposed to believe a man who was kidnapped, forced into surgery multiple times, saw his friends die in those surgeries, from training and combat, had to train his entire life for combat, has been frozen and pulled out just for combat then put back on ice so they can preserve his talents, punched a whole in his commanders head, saw countless people die in combat and was one of 2 survivors from the first ring, was under strict protocol to destroy cortana if he was captured and I’m supposed to belive he would waste time trying to save her when she is a hindrance due to Rampancy. There is just no way.
Those are the problems I have with stuff like this. You want it to be “lore accurate” but I want it to feel like “Classic Halo.” You would think those would be the same thing but you have seen Halo from a different view and believe it to be totally different than what it originally was. There is no way to please both audiences. I believe whatever entertainment is made should try to stick to a firm path and if you go into other mediums it has to follow that path and not divulge in the slightest or else you end up with fans who say they both love the same thing but that thing is completly different to each person. All of this is just more reason Halo 5 should have been it’s own new IP and the books/shows/movies shouldn’t exist unless they mirror the tone of the games.
You literally explained Halo infinite. Run out. Shoot. Get back to cover. Get sheilds back run out and slide shoot . Comon man that’s a weak argument. It’s even worse when they do have those get out jail cards.
I definitely did not get tricked I feel in love with it the day the beta came out. That’s actually what got me back into Halo. Halo 4 just died and it was not looking good so I left for a bit. It lasted because it had good multiplayer and the best forge Halo has ever had.
Again I would rather classic Halo because I think the Sprint sliding loop is obnoxious. At least the Halo 5 loop was fun. Infnite is just stale. Classic would be fun because it’s challenging. You can’t clamber which means you have more of a chance of dying etc.
Random get out of jail free cards are just bad for competitive period. Every time it’s been introduced something is always removed from it or removed all together.
I do feel bad for people who loved how 5 played. I want them to be able to play a game like that but if I have to choose to either let that way of playing take over Halo or get something closer to Classic I am going to choose the latter.
Sprint also doesn’t take away the classic feel. It’s not that big of a movement buff and honestly you walk way to slow in most other Halo games and there is no way anyone would play a game where you walk that slow and don’t have sprint, clamber allows you to grab ledges that in other games the jump hight would have normally let you get to, slide does just feel good, you can’t argue it feels bad because 5 even had it.
With all that said. Grappling isn’t Halo. Halo 2 is Halo. If anything if I can’t have Halo 5 then I want a literal copy of what Halo 2 is. Weapons and everything. That would be the most Halo to me.
This middle man thing, this comrimsie that is Halo infinite just ain’t it. Halo infinite feels the farthest away from Halo. Not lore accurate. A departure from the reclaimer trilogy. Just something else entirely.
Wait you mean you have to hide behind cover as opposed to literally “dashing away”? In a shooter? Say it aint so
Ive never had someone use an armor ability to turn tail and run but in H5 thats literally all the armor abilities did- give players a constant safety net of multiple ways to run
Which is fine
In infinite if you want a safety net you need to go out and grab it from the map or off a dead player
Having everyone dashing away 100% of the time you shoot them is the epitome of goofy gaming mechanics, it’s not comparable to power ups you have to physically kill someone for or pick up from a spawn
Here’s an idea, go play H5 and use your multitude of unearned safety nets all you want bud but thats all they are, unearned safety nets
And thats also fine
Doom eternal and qauke are prime examples of how to do no Sprint Halo. Faster base movement. And maps the compliment momentum based jumping. You know it can be done.
LMAO are you actually serious? There are spawns that spawn you RIGHT IN FRONT of the equipment. You talk about “unearned” but yet you fail to even realize that’s exactly what Halo infinite does.
Also in halo 5 it’s not unearned if your oppent has the same thing. If they can dash out of the way of a bullet coming at them. Then you can also dash to match their movements and kill them. There is a counter to RVERY move in that game. There is no counter to someone flying around with the grapple. They use it. You don’t have it. That’s where it ends. It doesn’t matter if you kill them or not. They still used it. It still changed the flow of the game. There is a domino effect. One play off the grapple can change the pace of a whole game.
I’m telling you man you have it backwards
The counter to someone zipping around with a grappling hook is to wait for them to run out of grappling hook and shoot them in the head. A novel concept, I know
How do you counter thrusters in HI? First of all barely anyone uses thrusters in HI but its the same concept, you force them to dash with gunfire and take them out when they run out of dash- weird I know
Are you seriously arguing for a background game of rock-paper-scizzors in your fps game? Maybe if you dash one way theyll dash another and then maybe you can pop off…eventually- thats assuming they havent already domed you or had a teammate dome you while you were trying to get a 400IQ kill
Again no thank you, glad that trash is in the dustbin
Less safety nets, more hard caps on those safety nets like limited uses.
Oh I agree, I thought you meant you wanted to walk slow again. I probably wouldn’t have minded that form of movement but also those games are twitch shooters and you can kill people way faster than in Halo so I think that Infinite nailed it perfectly where I wanted it. If in Infinite you ran like you do in Doom gun fights would drag out as it’s too easy to get to cover and regen shields and dodging fire would also be easier. Halo needs to be a bit slower so you can hit targets long enough to kill them without being as slow as you were back in the H2 and H3 days.
In regards to equipment not feeling fair, that’s the point of Arena shooters, whatever is on the map will make you more powerful and should give you and advantage over other people. It’s why I have always hated mid range precision spawns because those weapons be it the BR, DMR, or Magnum can easily compete with most map weapons thud making most weapons entirely useless compared to them. I’m not saying your first gun has to be useless, far from it, just not good/easy to use in most situations. The AR gives you closer range effectiveness while limiting your ability to map people right off the bat. ARs also have many more guns that kill faster in their effective fighting range preventing them from being OP. BR, DMR, and Magnum have enough range that you can back peddle and kill shorter range weapons with ease and as for long range, unless the sniper hits a head shot or 2 taps you before you shoot back mid range precision spawn guns usually descope the sniper and cam easily fight back. Somehow Infinite managed to make map pick ups worth it while not making you OP or useless at spawn.
Equipment feels great so far, at first I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it but after playing with it I love it because it does feel like Halo 3 but with useful equipment. Aside from the bubble shield the rest of H3 equipment sucks and is borderline useless. Infinite made them meaningful and fun.
To me and many others I know Infinite feels like the sequel to Halo 3 we have waited for.
Also if you haven’t tried Titanfall 2 please play it as I think it will satisfy your advanced movement hunger and I would say it does it better than any other game.
I would rather no “safety nets” period. Its funny you think I’m arguing for abilites. I’m simply stating that everyone having the same abilites or lack of is far superior than a middle man playstyle with pickups.
What you just explained makes no sense. You don’t force people to thrust. Someone waits for a good opportunity to thrust and they take. You don’t get “forced”. Your practically talking about bad players at this point. Anyone with decent skill will outshine someone with no ability. I’ve seen it countless times. I even have multiple clips of it. I spawn. I’m literally inches away from the repulsor. I use it. I end up being in the advantage in the very next fight. Yeah weird concept I know
Again you have everything abosultely backwards.
You seem like the kind of person that gets upset when they can’t kill a scorpion because you didnt spawn with tank busting abilities from the get-go
Go out, get your dash or grappling hook if you want more movement abilities. You make it sound like anyone and everyone with a dash or grappling hook is some god flying around the battlefield and that says more about you and how you play than it says about how good you thought H5’s goofy armor abilities are
Nothing is backwards here bud, you just don’t get Halo
And thats fine
You say it makes it slower because it makes people dodge and Regen. I say it makes it faster because I can close the gap easier on said person who’s trying to sheild up. I think this is really spereated between comepetive and causal at this point because running away doesn’t happen in high skill matches.
The thing about titan fall is that there are still classes meaning your not always ganna fight someone with a grapple. And the maps are huge too. I want a tight parkour based 4v4 shooter where everyone has the same movement tools. I want that fast high octane gameplay that champoin level Halo 5 matches give you.
Its slower because you spend more time playing rock-paper-scizzors with your thrusters than you do actually shooting each other…
