If you could of designed halo 5, what would you do

If you could of designed Halo 5 instead of 343, what would you have done differently?

Here’s my list:

Remove sprint and all AA’s/Spartan Abilities.
Bring back BxB, BxR, RRX, and RRXYYRRX.
Remove ads/smart scope.
Remove spartan chatter.
Remove weapon locations/spawn timers.
Make the maps good again.
Bring back dual wielding.
Add custom game lobbies (these might be in the final game but I doubt it).
Bring back trueskill 1-50 ranking system.
Bring back nightvision on the sniper scope.
Add a population counter.

Inb4 everyone says it would be a reskinned Halo CE, 2 or Halo 3.

Post what you would change.

I would have made a carbon copy of Halo 3 to be quite honest.

I would’ve kept it the same. But i would have more varition in the weapons. Some weapons can scope some can’t. Some have scopes or optics and they will all still be puck ups.

Campaign at 30 FPS 1yyy X 1080 variable res with good MSAA to insure minimal artefacts and clean visuals while granting a large scope.

MP flat 900p 60 fps to insure no drops in frame rate.

Episodic Spartan ops fully story driven if possible from both Sangheili and Spartan perspective

Large action bubble level design with full and advantageous vehicle implementation.

Minimal switch between locke and the chief ( like seriously…less than a level if possible locke is already grating on me)

More emphasis on the spartan super soldier nature during gameplay

Uhm…Locust and Gauss Mantis?

No hover or ADS (maybe as a visual option but not mandatory)
Spknr as the default rockets
4 player local and allow for 3 guest online.
No Sprint (for good maps)
no call out for power weapons

Things id add
Competitive and Social playlist return
true skill 1-50 rankings return
alternate weapon skins all weapons (think swapping the Reach AR with the classic and that being a weapon skin)
Return Fire fight
Offline MP Bots
Return of Invasion
Return of the first AA the Flashlight
Return night vision
Environment forging
legit button combos

Simple no sprint no aim down scopes

Vehicles aren’t made out of paper. Remember the days when taking down a tank was so rewarding.

I have thought about this a lot actually over the last couple of months and honestly… I would make it play identical to H2A only change the movement weight slightly to learn towards H3 with a little bit more fluid movement. I would of course have new maps and weapons and all that jazz but really I though H2A felt really fresh and felt like “the next Halo game” despite it being a reskin of H2.

With slight tweaking to certain things like movement and general character feeling I think making Halo 5 play like H2A with new maps and weapons with slight adjustments here and there would feel fresh enough to succeed but still keep old fans happy.
Basically I would make a Modified H2A with 100% replaced models, textures, maps, sounds and that weird inconsistent lighting.

Back to halo 3…THEN make improvements

Remove/rethink half of the Spartan Abilities, for one:

  • Make Sprint limited, again.
  • Drastically repurpose the Thruster Pack in MP, limiting most of it’s capabilities to campaign.
  • This will remove Ground Pound, Shoulder Charge, Stabilizers, and Slide from MP entirely.
  • Restore the Thruster Pack evade function, decreasing the distance greatly.

Non-Spartan Ability related:

  • ELITES
  • Unlockable Arbiter, Honor guard, and Councilor armor for Elites. Yunno, so I can wear these before I die of old age.
  • Large overall increase in playable species for customs (roughly every enemy class, minus drones and non-combat flood forms.)
  • Matchmaking for custom games
  • Bring back BxB and BxR, giving them unique 3rd-person animations (BxB kills the opponent with a headbutt, roundhouse kick etc.)
  • Increase the player cap, somewhere between 24 and 32

I haven’t played it, so I can’t say whether I would like nor change anything about it.

You would make a copy of Halo 3. And it wouldn’t sell.

I wouldn’t have done anything differently.

To be honest, I would have done a lot of what they did with Halo 5; gameplay wise at least.

Although I would have implemented a deeper unlock/customisation system.

Halo 5 to me is basically Halo with all the conventions of modern shooters.

In and out of itself it’s not a bad thing. It’s like designing a car with four wheels; everyone does it because that’s what more or less works the best. Doesn’t mean cars are all the same; a Ferrari is a completely different car to a Bentley.

I would have kept Halo5 as is, added in the weapons of all the halo games (if for no other use than campaign/forge awesomeness). Throw in a toggle-able dual-wielding for peeps that swing that way.

Add more assassinations, including weapon specific assassinations,

more customizable armor (including little doodad add-ons like a belt full of bullets, wild wild west style, damaged armor permutations for each piece of armor, where you put your insignia, display x number of achievements on your chest like in real live ceremonial dress, add slash marks on your armor for # of kills in a match or all time, and ability to scratch the paint off your armor Emilie style).

adding in more open world maps for vehicular manslaughter

a crazy invasion game where one team flies in on their pelicans/phantoms of glory to dominate the defenders

firefight

spartan ops (as its own extra thing, not a half-firefight half-campaign but an actual mini campaign that takes place in another part of the galaxy and experiments with new enemies/allies etc…)

I would add new features to the game and also go along the story of John-117 in the book series. I would also look at what the people want and what the producers or designer.

Maybe it wouldn’t sell…

…but people would still be playing 3 years later.

Yeah, 3000 people would buy it and still play it 3 years later, and Microsoft would go bankrupt

Honestly, I would probably make it similar to how Halo 5 is already. I would probably lower the kill times slightly though honestly. Add more spartan customization than was in the beta, make vehicles balanced (though we don’t know how they are currently), and take out any and all bonuses for smartscope… actually, I wouldn’t have even put smartscope in to begin with.

I would probably take the art and story direction in a completely different direction though.

Here’s what I’d like to see, but I think it’s asking for too much
Gameplay:
-dual weilding
-dual weilding of swords
-single hand combat
-grappling with hunters with low health, think of forward unto dawn
-stealth feature
-added in cover system, even though your wearing armor you can still hide behind cover sometimes
-increased sprint speed in campaign
-Spartan II’s showing superiority to other versions of spartans
-ADS/Sprint, togglable for those who don’t like it, if toggled off the player has increased movement speed
-when being shot at in a vehicle, the vehicle takes the damage to a certain extent, not the inhabitants
-destructable environments, mainly human environments
-armor that wears down as its shot at: cracked visor, scratched armor, exposed wiring

Vehicles:
-first person view of driving, which is toggable
-first person view of maning the turret, which is toggable
-human vehicles with doors, similar to butterfly doors for the warthog to add armor
-a variety of vehicles similar to modern vehicles: styker, matv
-add in dogfights, similar to star citizen
-older vehicles brought back: chopper, revenant

Multiplayer:
-classic playlist for those who don’t like sprint, thrusters, or ADS
-elites, but only in certain modes
-bring back the invasion gametype
-increased player count to 16v16, but only for a larger scale BTB gametype
-space battles
-space battles that are mutli-staged, start in space and end up on a planet or ring
-a gametype similar to juggernaut, which pairs a team of 3 spIV’s against a single spII.
-4 player split screen, but I personally think its a dead feature with Xbox live
-60FPS in 1080p

Campaign:
-a story mode that lasts atleast 12 hours
-cutscenes developed by Blur
-the chief having enhanced abilities compared to spartan IV’s
-chief getting a forerunner armor upgrade
-bring back the flood
-bring back brutes
-bring back buggers
-an actual boss fight
-ability to command a fleet of ships
*this could be a stand alone mission in itself, thihk of the COD missions where you act as air support then assume the role of infrantry. I know it’s COD, but it makes an interesting mission
-the flood having a hive mind like awareness, if one sees you, they all see you
-flood that will deploy tactics to swarm you. For example what the prometheans do
-have deceased flood forms/living build into each to create larger forms
-flood that morph out of walls, think of the movie Alien & The Thing
-also think of Keyes, imagine having infection form swarming out of a marines body, similar to the alien movies which one burst’s out of the chest
-terminals that give flashbacks
-mendicant bias as the chiefs new AI, just face it, cortanas not coming back
-a view into civilian life of humans, and all of the alien life forms

Edit:

Forge:
-Add in bots, similar to what Titanfall has for their multiplayer
-the ability to copy and paste
-the ability to change lighting

I’d take Halo CE as the base of my Halo 5.

I’d add on top of that:
-Multigravitational maps, gravity can be in several directions on one map
-Zero G combat, non gravity areas or maps
-Utility based weapons having other roles and functions than normal weapons
-Health would generate with health packs or when close to a team mate.
-Controllable elements on the maps akin to those found in H2A, but bigger in scope at some places
-Hijacking with the added feature if using certain weapons, such as the sword or shotgun, for added speed and efficiency
-AI which learns and improves.
-Jump crouching, crouching and then jumping gives you extra height.
-VISR, thermal and nightvision modes instead of flashlight.
-Difficulty based on AI intelligence rather than brute force increasind and you as a player becoming a crystal glass.

Campaign:
-Branching missions and side objectives changing how things play in later missions, not branched story though. Chosing to destroy either a Wraiyh facility or Banshee hangar would remove or reduce the amount of wraiths or banshees in certain levels.
-Timed events changing how a mission plays depending on how fast you can do something. Example being a door that will close in 1 minute, not getting through the door in that time wouldn’t mean mission failure, but you need to take a longer different route.
-Your multiplayer spartan present in the campaign in some way.
-Multiplayer objectives reworked as mission objectives, CTF could be remade in such a way where you defend a specific object from capture and try to capture a vital object or several from the enemy, and so forth
-Players can join the enemy side and select different units to play as against the player.

Firefight:
-New Mombasa size maps.
-Dynamic overseer AI spawning enemies depending on what the players do and how they behave.
-Random events and objectives which provide different rewards when completed.
-Flood, “Covenant”, Humans and Forerunner sides available to fight against or with against the other non allies, or a big FFA.
-Each race having it’s own overseer reacting differently to the same events.

Multiplayer
-Map vetoing outside match making. You select one or two maps from each playlist map rotation you do not wish to play on and when you jump into matchmaking you’re assigned a map and gametype with no voting or vetoing.
-Random events alerted about long beforw they happen, and what will happen.
-Que notification when someone ques to join you.

Forge:
-Version of Project Spark as map editor and scripting systen. Customized for my version of Halo 5 of course.
-Able to forge for all game modes except campaign.
-Forge AI, an AI that learns how maps are built abd can navigate them, be it multiplayer bots and regylar NPC units. Or can be scripted by the player for apecific behaviours, or a mixture, say how it behaves and learns after that.

New mode: Scenario
-Short-long single mission
-Functions like a normal campaign mission but isn’t part of a campaign.

Theatre:
-Can view from all game modes.
-Ability to lock camera onto objects present or soon to exist such as unfired rockets which will be fired in 10 seconds.
-Chain together lock ons so that you can jump from rocket to rocket to grenade fast and efficiently
-Filters working so that you can choose which object gets filtered and not. For instance, black and white filter but players retain their color.

Assets:
-More vehicles, new and old.
-Different base armors all with addons you can attach individually
-More gametypes, new and old.
-Saved film clips should be usable as main menu background, mode specific clips used for mode specific menus.

That’s what I can think of.
