If you could design a Spartan Ops mission

Say you were chosen by 343i to help them design a mission for Spartan Ops what would you make it like? Would it be a desert canyon where you have to defend a Mammoth and get it to a rally point, or would it be a space battle where you have to board Covenant ships and take them out?

Personally I would have it so your squad is participating a large ground battle, and you are tasked to take out a number of targets and help ensure victory for the UNSC.

Mine would be where Majestic Squad is flying in a Pelican towards an objective and there shot down by Prometheans and they all have to eject and they all land in different parts of a forest. Majestic Squad then has to fight individually through Promethean forces in the night while heading towards a rendezvous point in a field to be extracted.

Mine would involve taking over a scarab and driving it. I know, very original right?

An aerial combat mission would be cool.

I sort of new there would be vehicular oriented missions but when David Ellis stated that some missions and their maps will be specifically designed for vehicular gameplay I was very pleased.

Warthog Run !

on a second thought : a Scarab battle using the Mammoth :=)

I would have a vehicle like one too. one where majestic team have to navigate through tricky terrain in a Worthog fights along the way in vehicles.

Ambush and exterminate a(n)(armed) rebel river town. Ride in on boats, attack other boats, destroy the town, and everyone in it. (I know it sounds controversial, but that is what im aiming for)

The covenant could show up but, I think it should be a human on human thing.

Mine would be:

We’ve located a large facility being used by Covenant and (new enemy) forces for unknown purposes. We know something important is inside, but we don’t want to risk troops by attacking the facility outright. You need to travel with just one or two people. All of you are equipped with specialized silenced weapons (perhaps they could have an smg here just for old times sake) and must infiltrate the facility and learn what is inside without being detected by too many troops.
Also, perhaps after killing someone, you need to hide their bodies to prevent detection (or just use a forerunner weapon and dissolve them).

Great ideas so far, I would love to play all of these. Keep them coming!

A stealth mission similar to that of Headhunters. You would have to kill groups of enemies silently and avoid patrols. Your mission would be to plant detonators on an energy pylon supplying the covy’s power. After the pylon is destroyed you join up with the UNSC attack force which arrives as soon as the power goes out (along with the covy’s shields). Perhaps after the power goes down you could gun a Falcon, drive a tank or just fight on the ground with an array of weapons.

Another mission is where you would have to chase and destroy a super Scarab as it makes its way through a canyon. The mission would begin with you fighting your way past covy defences before getting on a pelican or falcon which hovers above the Scarab (or even running and jumping on it via the sides of the canyon?). You would leap off, crush resistance on the Scarab and detonate it before escaping by jumping off the Scarab and into a pelican -not in a cutscene.

Operation: Seabird

The mission almost entirely takes place on a Pelican, as Majestic (or whichever SpOps team is in use) Team covertly flies behind enemy lines while a larger UNSC presence distracts the Covenant and/or Forerunner AI.

The mission would begin within one of the Infinity’s hangars, with plenty of cool things going on around you in the hangar- you know, Marines loading into pelicans to take off, an ODST squad going over a mission briefing with a holo-panel near the far wall, etc.

Before Majestic Team would fly the Pelican they’re using for their operation- Armed with a chin mounted gun, missiles on the winges, a rear-mounted machinegun, and tons of explosive ordinance loaded inside the Pelican. The mission would officially “start” once all four Spartans had chosen their place on the pelican. What are those four positions?

  1. Main pilot. This player does not have a weapon. They do, however, get the awesomesauce job of flying the pelican. Perhaps UNSC tech would allow this Pelican to temporarily activate a camoflauge field like Sangheili phantoms- if that were the case, the pilot would also be able to do taht.

  2. Secondary pilot. This player operates the chin mounted gun and the missiles, being sure to take care of any ‘big’ threats that bullets alone can’t bring down, as well as keeping the airway immediately in front clear.

  3. Rear gunner. This player operates the rear-mounted machine gun, and works with the 4th player in keeping the Pelican covered from the back. Their suppressing fire and limitless machine-gun action would be quite important.

  4. Ordinance gunner. This player gets all the fun with the pretty plumes and explosions commonly associated with rocket launchers and other such goods. Player has a near-unlimited (think of ODST, Deja Vu) supply of certain explosive ammunition to use in tandem with rocket launchers or whatever other explosives are supplied in the game. They sit towards the rear of the pelican bay and assist player 3.

The operation would be covertly inserting the team behind enemy lines while the UNSC provides a distraction. Of course, nothing goes perfectly to plan and Majestic Team would be forced to confront quite a bit of air traffic on their way to the LZ. It’d be a great opportunity to have epic air-exclusive combat and to fully utilize a pelican in regular gameplay!

Operation Black Lightning
Objective: Destroy sensitive intel

Description:
Drop into the objective via SOEIV’s under the cover of night. Work your way up the steep hills while avoiding gunfire from jackal snipers that are hidden high in the trees. Destroy the package and request for evac. While you wait for evac, you are warned that multiple waves of enemies are advancing uphill to your position. Your team is forced to survive like in Firefight but you have a tactical advantage because you hold the higher ground. When the Pelican arrives, your Spartans and you will have to make a sprint for it while taking fire from hostiles. Once your team is in, the Pelican will lift off and one player will have the privilege to man the turret on the back of the Pelican. As the Pelican flies off, the gunner will pick off the remaining enemies until the screen fades to black.

Operation Red Griffin
Objective: Capture the VIP alive

Description:
One player is chasing a Insurrectionist VIP on the rooftops of a human city, another player is providing sniper support from a roof of a skyscraper not so far away, and the last two players are providing gunfire support from Falcon turrets. The first player must rely on the Falcon for assistance, until it the buildings start crowding up and its becoming harder for the Falcon to fly through and help out. There you are on your own. Near the end of the mission, when your team finally corners the VIP, he pulls out a Magnum and attempts to commit suicide. The sniper is forced to shoot the VIP’s hand in order to disarm him.

Orbital drop into a huge battle. 2 scarabs, 14 ghosts, 4 wraiths, and 11 or so squads(squad = 5-6 troops) of ground troops battling an existing group of 8 Marine squads held up in a forerunner structure. You drop in with either other spartan IVs or ODSTs(in addition to how ever many people you’re playing with) and use a variety of ground vehicles to fight off the attack. IDK about the rest of the mission.

The Walk - God-Machines go to war.

The Covenant is holding some ground and holding it well. You’re tasked to help lead an Armoured Division to cut a bloody swath through Covenant controlled areas. Destroying Pylons, Artillery, and Covenant Armour to support the advance of several Cyclops 2 as they continue a murderous march through Covenant territory.

I’ve always been a fan of vehicle combat. And supporting the advance of Mechanical-Titans makes me giddy. Especially if we can watch them in the distance pound Covies into unsightly biological carnage.

I might as well post another, anyone else is free to post as many as they want.

A large Covenant force has engaged the UNSC Infinity, your squad is tasked with defending it. First you must repel boarders, but as soon as that is done you jump onto a newer version of the Booster Frame and take off to help with the space battle. You can dogfight for a bit but then you are tasked with taking out one of the Covenant ships. You board through the hangar and fight your way to the bridge. Once there you set it on a direct course into another Covenant ship, knowing the impact will destroy them both. You run back to the hangar and jump on the Booster Frames once again, to see that the majority of the Covenant ships have been taken out. You then dock with the UNSC Infinity and the mission is over.

I would have one where you and Majestic squad assault a Covenant base to overload it’s reactor where the assault goes in phases.

Phase 1: Recon. One player gets a sniper rifle and scans the base, pinpointing weak points in the base for the squad to infiltrate.

Phase 2: Infiltration. All other players infiltrate the base, trying to find the gate gate controls to let in the bulk of the UNSC forces while the sniper takes out patrols. Culminates in a largeish battle around a courtyard with gate control at one side, with Pelicans dropping off UNSC forces and Phantoms dropping off Covenant troops.

Phase 3: Assault. Once the gate is down UNSC forces flood in, with a massive vehicle battle on the exterior of the base where the UNSC try punch a hole in the side of the base so a Pelican can get Majestic Squad near the reactor so they can detonate it, then pick them up again. Culminates in Majestic and all other infantry speeding away in Pelicans, while Mammoths cary all other vehicles out of the area. [Note, when reactor is overloaded Majestic Squad have a fixed amount of time to get back to the Pelican, and if they run out of time, the mission will fail.]

The missions would also have a few decisions, such as ‘Do we puch through the weak side of the base, but then take longer to get to the reactor and back, possibly failing the mission, or attack the stronger side, facing more opposition, but once inside detonatong the reactor and escaping quicker?’

snow map with warthogs. you and your friends are trying to attack a covenant ship before it escapes

> snow map with warthogs. you and your friends are trying to attack a covenant ship before it escapes

Do you mean like going up the grav lift and attacking it? Or attacking it with your Warthog?

First off, your ideas are awesome! I was going to say the same, lol.

But another one I’d love would be space battles, improved from Reach, yet similar to Reach’s space battles.
