If THIS was the campaign..

In short, what if the last level ended up being the first level, and what followed was the battles on Reach DURING Halo 1, up to the point where Chief and company return with the Ascendant Justice.

That way, no established canon would’ve been tampered with, and I think we would’ve had a much improved campaign.

Because, in my opinion, what we got was the weakest in the Halo series thus far.

Thoughts? Agree, disagree?

Agree. Fully.

They had an entire universe worth of fiction at their disposal. And they chose to follow the disjointed missions of an obscure team that had never been mentioned anywhere before in the fiction.

Who knows why they chose that path for their “crown jewel.”

Ehh??? During Halo??? U do realise Reach is set b4 Halo, right? U get tasked 2 deliver Cortana 2 the Pillar of Autumn, in other words, without u, John-117 wouldn’t hav had Cortana & might not hav saved the day in Halo. Personally, I think Reach is a pretty solid game. I fail 2 c why so many peeps r so critical of it & ODST. Both hav solid storylines, that build upon the Halo Universe, @ least from my experience (havn’t read any of the books, just played Halo, Halo 3, ODST & Reach, so I can accept that my limited, 2 other viewpoints, knowledge might in error).

no just no, reach is good how it is and its different from being a lone wolf spartan

> no just no, reach is good how it is and its different from being a lone wolf spartan

While it is different from being a “lone wolf spartan,” it fails to measure up in so many other areas.

There was really no sense of team togetherness beyond maybe the first level, largely due to the fact that nobody knew anything about noble team before the opening cinematic. Plus, the plot didn’t do much of anything to explain the significance of the team further as the story progressed. Each member really didn’t have anything to do with another. Rather than a close team, it felt like a cluster of completely unrelated Spartans.

Most characters had very little, if any, character development. Those who did were killed off too early to appreciate it. The end result? You finish the campaign without ever getting to know any of the characters. This disconnect between the player and the story is what makes the campaign feel so impersonal and disjointed.

There are plenty of other reasons as well, but I hesitate to cite them due to countless past threads that have thoroughly picked the issue apart.

There really wasn’t anything wrong with the “lone wolf spartan” approach.

This and the whole plot already being predictable if you knew the story. Reach’s campaign was so-so. It didn’t really follow canon to well.

I think it would have been better if they took maybe the perspective of Fred or one of the Spartans II except Jorge. that was defending Reach.

agreed wouldve been alot better to play as 1 of them and fight next to Master chief towards the end on Reach
