If there's no Prometheans, Sentinels are a must!

Having the Banished as the only enemy faction is severely lackluster. The Covenant as the only enemy worked in Halo Reach and Halo: ODST because it was focused on the Covenant aspect of the Human-Covenant War. We’re in the post-war era, there’s many factions and focusing only on the Banished is too simplistic and bland. At the very least we should see a Sentinel enemy faction. We saw a giant underwater sentinel in the E3 2018 trailer.

Halo 4 was such a breath of fresh air from Halo: Reach and Halo: ODST after having the Covenant as the only enemy over and over again. Halo gameplay isn’t just about Covenant enemies, the first Halo game at it’s core was about four warring factions, not just two.

If Halo Infinite is aiming to be a soft reboot “only Covenant type enemies” is the wrong way to go about it.

I personally wasn’t a fan of fighting the prometheans in 4 and 5 and found the replay ability with them a bit lackluster but I do agree that more factions/ enemy types would be fun. Although, if new enemy factions are involved and play a core part in gameplay for the campaign I hope that there’s a strong focus on quality other than them just being there.

(That was my issue with the promethean soldiers in halo 5, fighting them felt like fighting a copy and paste elite except with hitscan and teleportation.)
But story and lore wise, I would definitely like to see more involvement with other factions in the halo universe.

From what we’ve seen of Escharum and Jega, I’m guessing there will be plenty of variety within the Banished to keep the game interesting.
The Sentinels will almost definitely be in the game, as they roam free on the surface.
As for the Flood, I think me might encounter them in extreme small doses, maybe even as a side story to the main campaign, but I think they’ll save a large scale breakout for a DLC expansion.

The sentinels are pretty much confirmed just from knowing the setting of the game is on a Halo ring alone.

A Halo ring without sentinels on it would be like a cupcake without frosting, it just won’t happen.

I really hope they remove the Prometheans from most or all of the game and instead focus on the sentinels. The different variations of sentinels are mentioned basically everywhere except for the games, but now with Infinite being a spiritual reboot it would be a great time to introduce them. I don’t think we’ll be fighting any enemy human factions (since that’ll be weird for new players and unusual, even though it is something in the lore), but another enemy faction would be cool as well as long as it isn’t the Prometheans. They didn’t feel special in my opinion and they weren’t something that stood out, especially how they worked in Halo 5. Crawlers were easy to kill, soldiers were as strong as shielded elites but without the shield mechanic, and knights are basically hunters but more annoying to kill, along with watchers and that boss that you’ve seen 999+ times. Compared to the more diverse Covenant/Banished, which have grunts, jackals, elites, brutes, hunters, drones, and a bunch of other units and vehicles.

Hopefully there are some interesting enemies/encounters we have in Halo Infinite or possibly even something like a Banished scarab or Retriever Sentinel (a massive sentinel which was in the Halo Wars 2 campaign).

I didn’t like the Prometheans but wouldn’t it be a little bit weird if all of them just vanished all the sudden? I hope that they don’t just forget about the guardians or prometheans because i feel that then they might as well just start over again and name halo 4 and halo 5 guardians none canon.

I’m with you, OP. The Covenant is really boring imo narratively speaking and if an entire open world is full of Banished enemies exclusively, it’ll get boring gameplay-wise too.

Reintroducing the Flood us definitely difficult narratively, since they should be a larger threat than any other in the universe and that was never the direction 343i was taking things. That’s why Sentinels/Prometheans need to return, and they need to be an interesting, fun, unique faction that is nothing like the Banished.

I think a complete revamp of the Prometheans is in order, and the narrative justification is that Cortana is now the Emperor of the Galaxy with unlimited resources.

I personally hope to find everyone: The Banished, Sentinels, Prometheans, Floods, The Covenant …

sentinels are gonna be there its a halo ring

What Covenant? The Covenant died in Halo 3. And Jul 'Mdama’s self proclaimed “Covenant” was destroyed in Halo 5.

343 Industries should not milk more undead factions named “the Covenant”.

The sentinels will be in Halo Infinite, but will they be an enemy faction? In Halo 4 the sentinels of requiem were friendly. I want them to be an enemy to add to the gameplay if the Prometheans are absent.

Maybe rogue factions of the Covenant that haven’t wanted to join the Banished? Like the URF, that would be good for side missions (Allies or enemies), not for the main story, just some ideas.

That depends entirely on the story. Though out the games, they have been enemies and allies depending on what going on with the characters.

I know that. I hope that they can be an enemy faction in the gameplay as well so it’s not just the Banished from start to finish. If story took precedent over gameplay, we’d be seeing some Banished humans as enemies.

Well, in Halo Wars 2, the Banished took control of some Sentinels throughout the campaign, maybe they will do the same in Halo Infinite.
