If There Was/Is A Boss Fight Against Didact

How would you do it?

I can’t think of much of a way to have a fight against him, since he sorta has those Jedi powers.

The other boss fights in Halo 2, and technically Halo 3, were against less…invincible foes.

Still, that’s just me. What would you have done, or what would you do assuming he’s not dead(which he probably isn’t)?

Have Cortana drain some of the Didact’s power so he can’t ROFLstomp Chief 1v1. As for the actual battle, it would probably be like the Heretic battle in Halo 2 but the Didact wouldn’t go for cover so it isn’t as boring.

Make it so when there is something in front of you he can’t lift you. Then just nail him with some power weapons.

Hate to say it, but if it were really a fight, the Didact would win. The Didact can just outright bully the Master Chief.

There isn’t really a boss fight either(much to my discontentment), just a few buttons you need to press.

I would make it a quick time event ending with some kind of space magic that saves you. That seems like something the fans would love. hnar hnar.

I really thought I was going to be able to give him the business this time around. That QTE was complete garbage dumpster juice.

If we do get a chance to fight him or the other Didact, he’ll have to be drained of his power somehow. As of right now he will stomp a mud hole in MC. Also, what kind of weapon would he use?

I would have the cheif ACTUALY USE that power up the Librarian supposedly gave him. You know, the one that the cheif wouldn’t be able to beat the Didact without?

And I would make the boss fight an actual boss fight, not “push this button to win”. In halo 2 Tartarus was virtually invincible, but there was one weapon that could leave him temporarily vulnerable. They kinda brought that back with the halo 3 battle with spark, but the spartan laser actually killed him instead of making him vulnerable.

Maybe cheif could have used a target locator on Didact so the infinity could blast a Mac round into his armor to disable them. Then the cheif could kick a** like he always does.

Instead they treated Didact like boarding a wraith. Plant grenade, run away.

“I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit.”

Oh wait…we sorta did that.

Okay, Plan B…We could have Master Chief run around and activate 3 more buttons located on the ship that suddenly is repopulated by more baddies. This would allow Cortana to reprogram the Composer so that it would only work on Forerunner DNA.

No wait…we wouldn’t be fighting the Didact directly then and this is a plot device that is frankly overdone in video games.

~ponders~

Plan C…How about “A slipspace drive in lieu of the nukes we don’t have. Delivery system? Us.”…wait…we did have a nuke and this plan seems all too familiar. Oh…and besides…we are still not attacking directly again.

Plan D…Now, this is a plan that I’ve tried once. Didn’t work though. But Plan D says we all just give up and shout, “Well this sucks!” and then head north. Hmmm…come to think of it…I think other people have done this unsuccessfully too and not just in the Halo Universe.

~ponders more~

Okay. Now what? Ah…yes…Plan F…We find a suit of Forerunner Power-Armor and go to town. Muhahaha.

=d

And in case you were wondering…No Plan E…I get killed in Plan E. I hate Plan E.

> Make it so when there is something in front of you he can’t lift you. Then just nail him with some power weapons.

But the stuff you’re hiding behind will just disintegrate. There was no way he could’ve beaten the Didact in a classic fight.

Even without the constraint fields (his telekinesis) he would destroy the Chief. Look at the size difference. His armour and shields will be stronger as well.

I doubt that grenade you stuck to him even killed him (if he is dead), then it was the fall not the explosion.

I’d squish him with a Mantis.

Or throw rocks at him. That’d be fun.

Plan G…MC plants a Pulse Grenade in…oh wait…

I had my lovely Gravity Hammer the first time I came to fight that bozo. All I got was a QTE. I was ROBBED!

I’d have had Cortana restrain him and me beat him senseless.

make him fall into composer, then he’ll jump out as a promethean hybrid and then the fight begins.

Now lets compare the pros and cons Chief and Didact shall we.

Didact:
Pros:Full Rate Promethean, Better Armor, Immense Strength, Constrainment Fields, Greater Size, Probably Weighs a megaton, 15 ft tall, Able to crush Master Chief’s Skull with his bare hand

Cons:…What cons?

Master Chief:
Pros:…What Pros?
Cons: everything that the Didact isn’t.

There won’t be a boss battle for the Didact, he is just too powerful. The only luck John had going for him is not fighting him. Didact would insta kill chief even if Chief did have power weapons the Didact would just make them disappear.

Yeah, the Didact is a god LOL. I was happy with the ending, Halo cutscene-things are always worthy of a medal.

I’m assuming this takes place on the light bridge initially. First things first, the light bridge is much more wider than it is now.

Cortana disables the Didact’s statis field, perhaps with the help of the Librarian’s powerup, before succumbing to rampancy.

Commence stage 1. The Didact only uses a blade weapon to attack you. He’s most susceptible to the Binary Rifle, Incineration Cannon, and Gravity Hammer.

When the Didact’s damaged enough, it’d be unnecessary to conjure up a bunch of platforms and cover for himself (being such a bawss) so he spawns Covies (Grunts, Jackal rangers, sword Elites) so he has a reason to. He makes a copy of an ancient Forerunner arena. He also starts using teleportation. He disintegrates the cover if you use it too long. This is stage 2 and is a throwback to the Regret fight.

When the Didact’s damaged enough, he spawns an unarmed giant Brute Chieftain on steroids, initiating stage 3, which is a throwback to the Tartarus fight. The Brute’s most vulnerable spot is on the back.

After killing the Chieftain, the Didact jumps back in with 4 Knights flanking him. He also spawns a pair of Hunters and some Forerunner turrets. The objective is to have the Didact get hit by them. Stage 4 and a throwback to the Heretic boss fight. The battlefield transforms into a Forerunner version of Infinity’s hangar. You get to use Forerunner versions of UNSC vehicles.

When the Didact’s damaged enough, he summons several Forerunner pillars on each side of the light bridge. Incineration Cannon Knights spawn on top of them. You have to destroy these pillars… because they’re menacing. The Knights only aim upward but have haxed cannons. You basically run a gauntlet to reach the pillars. Stage 5.

When the Didact’s damaged enough, he starts ranting. But then the ghost of Sergeant Johnson shows up.

Cue cutscene. Cortana binds the Didact. You impale him with his own sword before kicking him off the bridge. Johnson says a one liner. You detonate the nuke, you’re saved, Cortana’s gone.

Yeah I just don’t have it in me anymore. Given Halo 4’s Legendary difficulty and Didact’s overpowered nature, this is just ridiculous!

Seriously though, disarming the Didact of ranged weapons would be the first step in making him a proper boss.

I enjoyed fighting Tartarus more than Regret or the Heretic boss simply because he didn’t have a gun that could kill me on the spot in an instant. Another factor that made Tartarus enjoyable to me was having friendly AI to distract him and buy me some time.

This is an old post, but I am very strong on this whole topic despite its age. I had the same idea with Sliding Ghost on the Didact’s stasis field should be disabled; but I had a different plan in mind on how the battle would go out. For one, the Didact would find a way of stripping Chief of the nuke and keep it locked away, off the platform and essentially if Chief were to kill Didact on the spot, the nuke would fall in with him. Which would give more reason to fight him and get a key of some kind to get it back (The battle still takes place on the light bridge mind you!).

Also, I believe it would be useful for all of the seven Cortana’s split ups to help in the fight in a special way. Two would hold Didact’s ability of abusing his stasis field back, three would actually keep the Composer offline as much as they can so it will not completely compose everything (But as we know, New Phoenix will be the only location composed), and two others will actually keep Chief in stock during the battle and safe in a certain way.

When I say safe, I mean by bringing up hard light cover for Chief to use against the Didact from all Forerunner weapon fire. But due to the rampancy of Cortana, the cover can actually mess up on certain occasion and it will force the player to actually move about to the next cover. Now the other part of keeping Chief stocked is by keeping him stocked up on weapons and ammo for the fight, via weapon caches coming from the hard light, only on certain occasion however like when the player is actually low on ammo or out completely.

Now for the actual fight with Didact, since he is no longer in control of his stasis field, he has to actually fight Chief. He would retain the ability to levitate, so he can fly about the level and cannot just easily be beaten with a gravity hammer or scattershot. Now he could just simply break Chief’s body completely, but the Cortana’s will just hold him back in doing so and he will be forced to float back away from Chief.

Chief should keep on shooting at Didact to dwindle his shields, all the while switching areas to try and make it harder for Chief to fight back (IE He can teleport far away and use a binary rifle from afar, thus the Cortana’s will spawn a binary rifle for Chief to use temporarily along with some cover to fight back.). Soon enough, the Didact will become weak and fall on his knees, triggering an event for Chief to stick him with a pulse grenade, BUT he simply pushes Chief away, hides to recover his shields, and brings in some Prometheans to fight. (An extra idea I had was in co op, there should be more depending on the amount of players, more challenge and all!)

When the promethean knights are dead, Didact will come back up with duel wield supressors and begin to fire away at Chief, which triggers the Cortana’s to bring out more cover and allow Chief to hide and run around Didact, all the while firing away at him as well. After enough damage, the Didact will slump down in the air, holstering his suppressors. The Cortana’s would then flip the hard light cover pieces and make jumping platforms up to the Didact for Chief; now for this part, the Chief can just simply jump up to the Didact, OR the Didact would mess around with the platforms, putting Chief over the bottomless pit near the bridge and spawn some Watchers for Chief to fight.

To be continued

Continued from my last post

When Chief reaches the Didact, a button prompt would be triggered which would let Chief take one of the Didact’s suppressors, and let him fire upon his helmet, damaging him severely and bringing it all down for one last part. The Didact once again runs off to regenerate his shields and more Prometheans come out, this time armed with Scattershots and Incinerator cannons. Chief fights them off and the Didact comes in and fires a shot of his Incinerator cannon. After some conflict and avoiding of near death, Cortana brings out some Incinerator cannons to even the fight out and Chief fires when he can, taking careful shots and all.

After enough damage is taken, Didact falls, and Chief takes the key off of the Didact’s body, the bomb-in-stasis flies over and Chief retrieves the bomb. Chief then decides to shoot Didact with a scattershot lying near by, but the Didact knocks Chief away, the bomb drops near the Composer as well. Just to make matters worse, he regains total control of his abilities and the Cortana’s are forced to retreat, and then most of the ending plays out. The Cortana’s all gang up on Didact, the QTE actually comes into play (It would feel a little more rewarding to see him go like that now since you just whooped him in that big fight and all.) and the rest of the game plays out.

That, is what I think, could have made for an interesting boss fight, but nope, skip to a QTE and thats it. Its a shame because the Didact was built up as a villain you really want to fight! Being one step ahead of you, making a break out of every situation, sending in relentless troops and just being straight up evil and ruthless with controlling all those around him (except Chief and Cortana of course).

He was a villain that would have been awesome to see in combat, after all he was essentially the supreme commander of the Forerunner military, he must have some serious combat training with firearms and all. But if we did not get a fight now, hopefully 343 is gonna hype us all up for a fight later. But one thing that I have noticed with all the time I put in when I was thinking of my idea of how a boss fight would go against the Didact is well, its way too much and sorta ridiculous.

Honestly, taking the nuke away temporarily would be the only way to keep the fight from ending too quick, but what if the Cortana’s got the bomb for Chief to grab? Its just real hard to put a situation in this since 343 probably did not want someone going “WELL IF THE CORTANA’S COULD DO THIS, WHY COULDN’T THEY JUST DO-” and insert whatever problem solving act here. Its just real hard to make the fight somewhat emotional and fun all the while it makes sense.

But I say lets throw logic out the window for a second and look back on situations where Chief had crazy odds against him. He had to assassinate Regret BY HIMSELF, taking out all his honor guards as well, Chief storming High Charity and “blowing away” all the opposing covies in the Mausoleum of the Arbiters with needlers and fuel rod cannons, fighting his way onto the Didact’s ship by himself and destroying Installation 4 with only him and Cortana; I think a boss fight is perfectly possible considering all the crap that has happened in the past.

But yeah, that was my idea and quick thought on the topic why 343 probably skipped putting in a final battle. It really made me a bit upset in the end thought since at this rate bosses may just be phased out in favor of this bull crap ‘super tough enemy’ scattered about the game, only that in Halo its ruined with a simple punch to the back. A boss battle tests what skills you learned and gives you a final challenge to make the game have one more memorable moment.

But I guess I should stop here on this gigantic post, its just I have been playing games for the longest time, I have been playing Halo since the first game at age seven, and I love boss battles in games. Seeing a lack of one in Halo 4 was a bit of a let down (Well, I am sure 343 heard enough of that by now.) After all, seeing what happened in the game, who would not want to get at Didact?

Well, take care everyone and have a good day.

A QTE was the only way to do it.

If the player actually fought against Didact, Master Chief would have died near instantly. There would not have been a fight.
