I quit reach before the tu launched and have almost no experience with it. From what i understand i love giving more agency by letting the attacker drain armor lock. And find the bloom changes to be lazy and harmful.
But i always hear about how great it was for the game and would love to actually play with these changes. However the only game mode using the tu that has any players is btb. So i was wondering was the TU not as good as people say and is it just a minority of people who were resistant to things like bloom that promote it rather than it being an actual consensus?

I personally didn’t find an issue with the bloom. Yeah it wasn’t much like Halo game mechanics but I didn’t think it was bad.
Alot of people didn’t like it and the ones that did like it really didn’t say anything to oppose the dislikes. That’s the main reason why it went away.

but what i’m asking is why do people only play the playlists that have it if there were so many that didn’t like it

reach has an extremely casual community, hence they want to spam armor lock jetpack around and spam and hope the next shot hits, they dont care that part of reach sucked, the main tu audience is the competitive community which is now playing halo 3 on mcc because thats where the money is. Plus reach is 60% mexican and reach was terrible at lag compensation, mexicans teleport around and make every third game red bar for everyone else so nobody wants to play competitive reach when connection is always awful

This is true, and all of the various server problems the game has experienced since early fall further helped to drive players away.
The TU is great, however it didn’t incorporate more popular playlists like swat and infection which were always highly-populated since the game’s release. Instead it got big team battle which is extremely boring, Team Objective which for some reason was never that popular, and super slayer which, being far more enjoyable than the vanilla version, more than likely never took hold due to the fact that many players already had establised TS rankings on halotracker. Rumble pit and multi team never suffered from low populations but I haven’t been playing lately to know what it’s like now.
While the TU did a little to correct the handicap settings, it should have removed them entirely - I feel like that would have provided a much better gameplay environment that would have drawn in and retained more players.

But If the majority of people playing liked those aspects how can you claim they sucked? I mean reach never struck me as a game built for competitive play

the majority who liked them never played any other halo game, I am willing to put money down that in your average ts game 8/10 people will have no legacy games played on their service record. Those who enjoy what halo fans hated about reach didnt know any different. And you answered your own question with the second part, it wasn’t, it was casual and tu was a desperate effort to retain pro halo (mlg dropped halo because reach was unpopular) and following reach we had 6 years of an extremely dead pro halo scene.

same I had no issue with the bloom. I rather liked the trade off of accuracy vs raw DPS. Armor lock I did like the change so that the offending player can “damage” it and lower the total time spent in armor lock as it ensures both players maintain some level of agency. Didn’t like the removal of removing plasma grenades though. I thought that and the EMP were the only real valuable things armor lock brought to the sand box

May your post rest in pepperoni, since you mentioned TRHG/TheDorito

TU means Title Update, as in their updating the game in some major fashion. Though not per se a popular term among the Halo Community, it is a popular term to the Minecraft Community, especially those who played the Console Legacy Xbox 360 Edition of the game.

I played the classic 360 version of Reach and still didn’t get it back then
Thanks for explaining it !
