As a sidearm for custom loadouts in vanilla Slayer and variants such as Regicide, Headhunter, etc., doesn’t that mean that the infamous noob combo is always accessible to those who have ‘unlocked’ it? I’m aware that tracking and projectile speed and effective range and other variables affecting the PP’s power are being nerfed, but still, that’s awfully worrying if you get into relatively close range combat. I’m not talking melee distance, I’m talking maybe 3-4 metres IRL.

Yup. If 343i is to prevent everyone in the game to noob combo all over the place, they have 3 options.
A) remove overcharged PP shot tracking
B) remove the option to choose the PP or other covenant weapons as starting weapons
C) remove custom loadouts entirely
I would go with C) but we know they won’t, so they should choose B). choosing A) means that another feature that has been in the game for years is scrapped, adding further to our disappointment.
Having custom loadouts was a bad idea from the start.
The Plasma Pistol isn’t always going to be available at the start of every game.
When the guys got to play Halo 4 and write their reviews on it to us all, it was said they were playing Custom Games on a month old build.
I wouldn’t expect to see a Plasma Pistol off-spawn in Halo 4, 343i know better.
> I wouldn’t expect to see a Plasma Pistol off-spawn in Halo 4, 343i know better.
Then where does the plasma pistol go? It’s obviously not a power weapon, so being in an ordnance drop is out of the question. Furthermore, why would they let press play a misleading interpretation of the game? Why would they severely nerf it too if it was not a loadout viable weapon? There’s no map spawned weapons either, so it has to be a weapon for player loadouts. You people are looking at Halo 4 expecting it to be a Halo game with a few additions, like Reach. It won’t be. It’s a different game with the Halo name.
If players could spawn with shotguns and a variety of other CQC weapons the dominance of a PP and its noob combo wouldn’t exist. And if the jetpack is more like a thrust then dodging overcharged plasma shots would be a breeze.

I do think non- power weapons and grenades spawn on the maps besides power weapons. Surely 343i has the common sense to include that, right?

It being in an ordinance drop is not at all out of the question. It could be dropped with other smallish weapons.

PP overcharge? It takes shields down with one shot.
Of course there’s map spawned weapons

How is that common sense? Look at all the statements 343 have made. They all hint to a system with no map spawned weapons, other than power weapons which will come via ordnance drops. Furthermore, it doesn’t even make sense for map spawned weapons to exist if players can choose what weapons they want to spawn with. Look at every other game with a similar system.

probibly it is unlocked at higher levels

There are still gonna be map spawned weapons. -_-

Now, to use a comment which I despise but take secret pleasure in reading: you’ve played Halo 4?! What’s it like!
All the evidence points to no map spawned weapons other than power weapons in ordnance drops. Don’t make me put it [evidence] on the table, because I will.
This guy must be a troll surely, you honestly think they’ll be no weapons on the maps then your beyond limited

I’m curious about every piece of info that concerns Halo 4, because i’m still trying to analyze whether it’ll be worth investing my time in multiplayer at all.
So please, bring in the evidence. I hope for both of us that you are wrong.

Question, aside from the Shotgun, Sniper, Rockets, S.Laser, Pro-pipe, heavy or powerweapons, why would YOU pick up any other weapon on the map if you spawned with a BR or DMR?

Well if 343i actually makes the weapons useful in their own niche, they would be useful. After Halo 2 though, most weapons sucked but tve BR. I 1v1ed my friend a week ago and dual magnums killed before he could fire 3 shots of the br at close-medium range. Dual SMGs actually killed at close-mediumish range too. In Halo 3, they made dual wielding useless for no reason and lowered damage on almost all weapons. If you have an overpowered balance, the game would be great. But they had to keep canon on the Br and sniper but they made other weapons weaker. The Br wasnt overpowered, the other weapons were underpowered.
when spawning with weapons i think they should adjust how much charge/ammo you get so its different to picking it up on map, PP on map could have max amounts of shots while spawning with it only gives you 1/10 the ammount …
this way, you’d have to use it smart and sparingly to get the maximum effect from it.

That is from a build in March, and even then it is made clear that it was subject to change. There were also hardly any weapons on the ground.
343 has yet to announce the list of weapons we can select. Plasma Pistol may still end up being a pick-up for all we know.

So then do you support AR/Pistol starts?

Exhibit A:
In all the footage of Halo 4’s multiplayer we see no map spawned weapons, grenades or even power ups. Watch the Making of Halo 4: First Look trailer, a short clip of a BR fight, and the newest trailer. Notice something? There’s no map spawned weapons or items in sight. Even Halo 3’s early multiplayer footage displayed map spawned weapons (see if you can spot them!). Strange? Not if Halo 4 doesn’t have map spawned weapons.
Exhibit B:
Luis Wu’s statement (someone who played Halo 4 early at the NYC event):
Exhibit C:
Frankie’s comment:
> > just so we’re clear… even if you don’t have the BR unlocked, that doesn’t mean it isn’t present within a default map loadout, correct? also, it would be present on the map itself as a pick up?
>
> Anything dropped by another player is useable, all maps/modes (specialty lists like Snipers, for example, obviously ignore this rule) will contain at least one appropriate loadout UNSC “role” weapon, which would be DMR or BR depending on map. As described above. Ordnance is separate system from that, obviously.
Notice Frank didn’t comment on the “it would be present on the map itself as a pick up?” part?
I’m just saying, things seem to be pointing towards not having map spawned weapons. There’s even a “perk” that gives a player an extra grenade. If grenades spawned on the map this would be a pretty useless perk wouldn’t it? Also, no game that has custom loadouts or classes also has map spawned weapons.
