If the Master Chief how would you feel?

After they killed off Cortana I started to think, who are they going to kill off next? So let me ask you fellow Halo lovers, if 343i killed off the Master Chief, how would you feel.

change of phrasing and thanks to Cobra

I wouldn’t be pissed if the killed Chief, why would you assume everybody would be?

I wouldn’t be pissed. Chief’s story has gone on long enough. We have explored everything about him. What else is left? I wouldn’t mind if he was killed off as long as 343 does it right.

> I wouldn’t be pissed if the killed Chief, why would you assume everybody would be?

Because he is the main character of the Halo franchise, and killing him in the middle of his 2nd Trilogy would be a pretty clear F U to most fans.

Why would it be an FU to the fans? What if it was essential to the plot? What if it was well done? Even his voice actor thinks he should die.

DecepticonCobra brings up a very valid point there.

Like Steve Downes, I also think that Master Chief should die a “warrior’s death”. But if 343 are going to kill off Chief, they need to do it right.

He’s the main character, the events of the Halo games have taken place around him. The entire point of this trilogy is to expand his character and have him find out what’s left for him. Killing him off anytime before the end of the Reclaimer Trilogy would just be insulting.

However, if it was essential to the story and wasn’t cheesy or random, I wouldn’t mind.

“Spartans never die, they are just missing in action.”
I think he shouldn’t plain out die if he did die, I think there should be a sort of mystery about his death, similar to how most of him is a mystery. So if they made it to where he was probably dead but you couldn’t know for sure, I think that would be fine, they should also do it before the ruin it by taking off his helmet and showing his face.

There shouldn’t be a mystery to his death because then people will never shut up about it like with Jorge or Six or even freaking Johnson. Leaving the chance of him being alive will nullify any emotional impact with his death and leave him open to milked by Microsoft any time they need quick cash.

He should die a warrior’s death, like Steve Downes said, and DecepticonCobra brought up. “Spartans never die.” Spartans in Halo lore started off as kidnapped children undergoing augmentation to become the ultimate super soldier. They essentially became robots following orders. The Master Chief is human, he disagreed with a superior officer(Del Rio). Spartans never, die but humans do. It would be great to bid farewell to the Chief as a HUMAN hero, not a killing machine.

Wow now knowing that Steve Downes hopes that Master Chief gets a hero’s death, kinda changes perspective. Personally I think Master Chief deserves to live, but then again he should get a hero’s death too. Master Chief was kidnapped, augmented, went through gruesome training, fought both the covenant and the flood, and saw many of his friends die. He deserves to live, but what would he do after he is done fighting? This is all he is able to do now. Though the biggest pressure would be on how Master Chief dies. I mean this is Master Chief, he is a legend in first person shooters and video game history. You would have to make his death be due to sacrificing himself to save not just humanity, but all of the universe. If I was incharge of his death I would be stressed on how to make his death satisfying and epic.

He may feel a tad more alone and distant from being human than ever before. Although MC has been more in touch with his emotions because of the loss of Cortana, it also may shut him down even further from his humanity. I believe that based upon his comment to the Capt at the conclusion of the campaign.

As far as 343i potentially killing off the MC, I don’t think that would be a good look. I would probably drop Halo for that reason alone.

I think he is closer to his humanity now than ever, so the opposite. I couldn’t be the only one who thinks that. Him having his armor removed seemed to confirm that.

Depends. If he does go out, there needs to be a bang.

if he dies a super incredibly heroic death and he saves the entire universe for the tenth time, then it’s ok. But I always thought he deserved a memorial even he does live.

> if he dies a super incredibly heroic death and he saves the entire universe for the tenth time, then it’s ok. But I always thought he deserved a memorial even he does live.

More like his own planet or colony.

MEH.

Master Chief’s death should be spectacularly ambiguous. No one on Earth will believe that he is actually dead this time and the rumors of his survival will serve as a constant inspiration for humankind.

Considering how many times I have gotten the Chief killed when I play campaign, I think I have become desensitized to it, so no.

Cheif should die at the end of Halo 6. He’s had his legacy. He’s had two trilogies to be a badass. There are plenty of other characters to explore. So I would love to see him die in Halo 6.

But he should die a Spartan’s death. Go out like a badass, guns blazing hero. His death should make the manliest man in the universe bawl his eyes out.

So no, I wouldn’t be pissed if Cheif died, so long as it is a conclusive and satisfactory death.
