if the forerunners had shield planets

Why didn’t they use them?

Some might have----> The Didact 0_o

To my recollection they were never finished.

Instead all focus was switched to the Halo array.

I thought the shield worlds were meant to protect them from the halo array?

I blame Faber.

I second this

The Forerunners did originally plan on using them, but after their AI Medicant Bias turned on them and started fighting for the Flood the Forerunners were forced to abandon their plan and activate the Halo Arrray.

Cool, thanks guys!

The Shield Worlds purpose was to protect anyone who made it to the Shield Worlds from the effects of the Halo Array. Obviously, we know of 3 finished Shield Worlds. Shield 0459(Halo Wars. Destroyed after Sergeant Forge detonated a Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine in is artificial star.), The Sharpened Shield also known as ONI Research Facility Tevelyan, and Requiem. All are/were completed Shield Worlds. It looks like Requiem may very well be inhabited by living Forerunners.

You are welcome!

I think you forgot Onyx (unless that’s the ONI one) which Kurt destroyed by activating a FENRIS nuke in its core. Or is Onyx not technically a shield world?

That would be ONI Research Facility Trevelyan. When Kurt detonated the nuke, it destroyed the opening which had sealed by that time. As well as doing quite a bit of damage I would imagine to the innards of the planet. Then the outer shell of Onyx pretty much dispersed and revealed practically a wall of sentinels that obliterated anything that got close. Halsey and everyone else found themselves inside the Shield World, which was actually a Slipspace Bubble, which they eventually brought back into physical space where Onyx was. So thats, that one.

Oh they were finished it was just that many Forerunners were unable to make it to them. The Flood were galactic consuming many forerunner worlds and creating massive armies of those infected. By the end there were likely only pockets of planets that hadn’t been consumed but were surrounded by the flood. Also The Halo array and Shield array were top secret. Barely any would have made it before the activation of the array. People like the Didact, Liberian or Faber would have been able to make it with forerunners under their control.
