If the Flood do end up returning...

…343 shouldn’t tease it or drop any hints on social media. In fact, I think they should say absolutely nothing about it. Any answer they give would turn into a dozen 10-minute YouTube videos theorizing about any implications it might have for the story, which would cause tons of people to build up hype for the return of the parasite.

The Flood worked so effectively in Halo CE & Halo 2 because people weren’t expecting them. No one said “Man, I’m hyped to fight through hordes of undead humans and Covenant through that Library mission!”. The reveal was a total shock as Bungie had intended.

Obviously, that same shock can’t be completely recaptured, but keeping their return a secret would help increase the scare factor (especially on Zeta Halo, there’s a LOT of cool things they could do to add a new twist). On top of that, it would cool down the hype culture to a reasonable point. If people know they’re going to be fighting the Flood, there’s a good chance that some of them will complain because it’s ‘just not as good as the old games’. If people are hopeful that the Flood will be back but don’t know it for certain, I personally think they’d enjoy it more.

Idk, that’s just my take on it. I’m sure some will disagree but I really want the story to ‘wow’ everybody.

I think they can do this. If I recall correctly there was no hints about Cortana being in Halo 5. Maybe I just missed it though.

Yeah, I think you’re right. That ended up being one of the reasons why a lot of people were disappointed in the campaign though, because no one really wanted her to become the villain. I remember seeing theories that the game was gonna be about Chief going rogue to resurrect her, but the actual reveal ended up surprising people in a negative way.

I agree with this.
If the Flood are going to be included in Infinite, keep the shock factor.

Yep, I completely agree, and if they do return, you shouldn’t expect it at all. It should be like the Flood in Halo 3. You don’t expect High Charity to just make a slipspace jump to the Ark in the middle of the mission The Covenant. If it’s done with a surprise element like that, it’d be an amazing reveal.

I didn’t expect the Flood to arrive on Earth either.

Same, I kinda figured we’d be fighting them at some point to save Cortana, but I wasn’t expecting them right after Truth’s ships left.

I like this idea, would be nice to be completely in the dark and then be surprised in game.
