If The Covenant had any brains at all, they would put DNA sensors into their weapons. That way, if an enemy of the Covenant tried to use a Covenant weapon, the weapon would deactivate or self destruct. Imagine how much harder it would be for Spartans to fight without the aid of Covenant weaponry. Now, I love being able to use alien weapons, and I know that is is pretty necessary for gameplay purposes. Gameplay-wise, the current setup makes sense. Story-wise, it does not. Please, tell me if I am right or crazy.
Not sure if this was actually in “The Flood” but i vaguely remember reading about the failsafes.
If the covenant were really smart they’d just send out a fleet of Supercarriers to wipe out humanity.

^^^
They didn’t even need to invade at all, all the needed was their naval engagements and they could have saved most of their infantry losses.

If they were REALLY smart, though, they’d capture a few humans and make a super-virus to wipe us out.

Oh wait… Nightfall. Honestly I think the biggest problem was using destroyers for most of the Harvest Campaign. Sure they were strong enough to turn UNSC ships into “swiss cheese” but a super carrier would have left no cheese to make holes in!
Infantry engagements were necessary at some points. Like whenever The Covenant was digging for a Forerunner relic and had to keep UNSC ground forces away. Or whenever one of their ships was boarded.

I can’t imagine there being enough supercarriers in the Covenant for a whole fleet.
A 27km long ship isn’t exactly easy to build and maintain, I think that’s why we have only seen a few of them and only ever one at a time.
You are right, Imperium. Also, many races of the Covenant, mainly Brutes and Elites, show a preference for fighting face to face.

I don’t know about failsafes for other weapons, but the Energy Swords that the Elites in Thel’s fleet had automatically self-destructed when their user died.

Really? I did not know this Interesting.

On second thought this makes sense because in CE you couldn’t use the energy swords Thel is a genius.

Thel is God.

Energy swords had failsafes, but I don’t recall that applying to any other Covenant weapons.

Now you’re just being silly. After all, Halo’s factions are all as smart as possible! How long could a list of things they’ve been dumb about be…?
If the UNSC was really smart, they’d build Warthogs to actually protect the driver, passenger and gunner.
If the UNSC was really smart, they’d build a tank that could move faster than a fast jog, had advanced anti-air defenses, had a bigger cannon and better machine gun, and could be remote-controlled.
For that matter, if the UNSC was really smart, they’d use more drones and way less human soldiers. AI-controlled vehicles would be a tremendous boost to the human war effort.
If the UNSC was really smart, they’d issue better weapons to their troops than MA5Bs and BR55s and give them at least slightly better armor than modern Marines.
If the UNSC was really smart, they’d migrate as much of the human population as possible to an uncharted section of the galaxy and escape instead of hunkering down waiting to be slaughtered by the Covenant.
If the UNSC was really smart, they’d have engaged in guerilla warfare from the start instead of massing giant fleets to be decimated by the Covenant.
If the UNSC was really smart, they’d be using their super-advanced computers and AIs to remotely hack into the Covenant battlenet (Cortana did this with ease in CE) and pull crucial data on their enemy enabling them to win the war.
If the Covenant was really smart, they’d wonder exactly why the species they were destroying on behalf of the “gods” was the only species able to use the most advanced Forerunner technology. They’d put two and two together and realize humans were useful to them, not just vermin to be eradicated.
If the Covenant was really smart, they’d use stealth and strategy, deploying small Sangheili recon teams into UNSC space to infiltrate, observe and recover nav data.
If the Covenant was really smart, they’d use the sticky probe they used to find Reach more than once.
If the Covenant was really smart, they wouldn’t use the kind of vehicles and weapons they did, instead they would take full advantage of their Tier 2 technology and handle all operations remotely, only deploying physical troops when absolutely necessary.
If the Covenant was really smart, they wouldn’t be so careless in their operations (observable throughout the entire series when UNSC operations find their weaknesses).
If the Covenant was really smart, they’d give all their troops energy shields.
If the Covenant was really smart, they’d develop AI more advanced than the UNSC’s and overwhelm human information systems remotely.
I’d do a Forerunners list too, but it would take forever. Even the UNSC/Covenant lists are pretty incomplete.

The First Strike epilogue stated to be hundreds of Supercarriers and Superdestroyers around High Charity. Even if they weren’t CSOs (which i personally find BS) they’d still be formidable warships of similar capacity.

That is when you just glass the poles prior to invading and kill everything off, Forerunner structures wouldn’t be harmed.

Where did you see that at? The Fuel Rod Guns detonated in CE and I am sure “The Flood” made a reference.

You are correct, but also not quite. Supercarriers aren’t exactly a rare ship, but the Long Night of Solace was pretty much a one-off, if not one of a kind it was certainly a rare class of supercarrier, the cloaking for instance gives that away as (excluding stealth/spy ships) none of the other Covenant ships have that capability, the size of it is another. As you pointed out a 27km long ship would not be common place due to the drain on resources, the majority of carrier and supercarriers would be nowhere near that big. Regardless though, carriers aren’t something that’s fielded as frontline vessels or as a mainstay for most offensives and fleet engagements anyway as that isn’t the intended purpose or role of such a ship.

What if that enemy of the covenant was a Sangheili heretic?
Failsafe protocols were mentioned in the Flood and seen in CE. That is why you could not use the Fuel rod canon and the energy sword.
