So…I’ve been thinking about this for a while (ever since the H5 Beta Gameplay Reveal to be exact), and personally I honestly don’t care if Sprint was added in the game. I mean, I know that it didn’t work for the previous Halo titles (mostly Halo 4) mainly because it wasn’t a something that was balanced to begin with and most of the situations where a fool who would normally be doomed would give the upper hand to that said fool because of this ability and that ticked off most hardcore and pro players. 343i has once again brought it back to up roar most of the fans again but this time they have balanced it out to my liking.
"Sprint is tied to a spartans shields this time around. So when a spartans shields are down while they are sprinting, Not only will they NOT recharge while they are sprinting but when they stop sprinting there will be 4 second delay added on to that!"
To me, that sounds pretty good to have and pretty well balanced for all players. I can see that being a good fit for that function in Halo honestly. However, not EVERYONE is so happy with that. Lots of people want sprint GONE from Halo as a whole. Again, I really don’t care about sprint being added or not (as long as its balanced), but then I begin to think about something.
If Sprint IS removed AFTER the H5 beta, then can you just take the movement speed of SPRINT and use that increased movement speed into a power up (like Cloak and Overshield) and call that Speed Boost instead? Or (to annoy some elitist fans) called that power up SPRINT instead MUHAHAHAHAH…I’m kidding.
But Seriously, wouldn’t having a speed buff power up be better then a native Sprint function?

Sprint is NOT necessary.
With that said, It’s all fine and dandy that they nerfed sprint, But it still doesn’t solve the issue of players just running away all the time. Are they punished for it? Yes, But They can still do it.
In my opinion, You should be able to stop a player from sprinting if you shoot them.
Sprint is fine from getting to point A to point B, But once you’re at point B, You should be forced to fight! Not run away when your shields pop!
Having a counter to Sprint like this would solve the major issue with it.
Increase base movement speed by 20%, lower sprint speed by 20%. Have the difference between the two should be give or take 15-20% more speed–i.e. minimal. Getting shot in sprint knocks someone out of sprint.
Problem solved. Now scale the freaking maps down and quit making abominations like Bigship.
Still, I do respect their attempt at fixing sprint. For the COD kiddies, having sprint in is actually a big (albeit dumb and illusionistic) deal. I can understand the sprint thing as far as sales goes.

You could also keep the increase in base movement speed and increase the FOV of the player as well.
I’ll only respect their decision for sprint when they also make it so that shooting a sprinter will cause them to stop sprinting

For campaign sprint is fine. Map scale being effected is where I disagree, as mentioned with reveal of “bigship” it just doesn’t work. Unlimited sprint will hurt objective games could it not be tweaked to be limited?
Well you guys are making some good points here (especially JenguBlocku with another great idea), but all I’m asking is do you guys think this speed boost power up would be good for an alternative for sprint. They had it as a power up before in H3 and H4. Plus, 343i did state they wanted to “return to Halo’s classic routes as a competitive ARENA SHOOTER”. Adding this power up would back up that statement, if sprint didn’t see the light of day in the full release.
No matter what, not everyone will be happy. They will probably have a speed boost like power already planned, just like they added in Halo 2 Anniversary
If sprint is removed after the beta I will be stunned. I would be incredibly happy mind you, but I will still be quite surprised if any of the new features are removed. I kind of hope speed boost returns along with the rest of the power ups.
Unfortunately I feel like the damage is already done from a map design perspective even if sprint gets removed.

You need to sprint to be able to charge and slide, so right now it’s absolutely necessary for those mechanics. Though I could do without sliding, or clamber to be honest, but I’ll wait for the beta to decide.

I’m guessing you haven’t played Halo 4 in the last 10 months. They have since scratched Complex as a 4v4 map.

You right about that right there. I heard on a podcast that the team gave the pro players two different builds to play. One with Descoping and one without descoping. I’m pretty sure they would have Speed Boost in stand by once they find out what everyone thinks of sprint.
I don’t think they will remove any of the new abilities, especially not sprint since it has a global impact on the game’s design as a movement mechanic.
I think all what might happen in regards to sprint after the beta is some kind of (minor) tweak but nothing more.

343i made sprint (appear) necessary. It was and still is not needed for anything actually though.
You could have easily implemented a different trigger for those abilities. The thrusters could have done the job of the trigger just as well as an example.

Exactly. It wasn’t working. Thanks for proving my point
