if sprint HAS to be in h4...

if sprint has to be in H4 (for whatever developer reasons), this is my proposed fixes to the mechanic to make it work better in every aspect:

1.) if you receive ENEMY-damage whilst sprinting, you stop sprinting.
2.) you cannot start sprinting again until 2.5 seconds after the last bit of enemy damage you have received.
3.) you cannot melee within 1 second of exiting sprint.
4.) you cannot shoot a shotgun (or similar CQC weapon, like the sword or hammer) within 1 second of exiting sprint.

with these 4 changes, sprint actually might strictly ADD to the game instead of making it play super silly, where if you are getting even a little bit outplayed you can just turn tail and run away (because knowledgeable people know not to chase).

thoughts?

please note this thread is not ‘sprint or no sprint’, its supposed to be ‘sprint is going to be in the game, so these are the changes that should be made to make it work’.

If multi player was canon I would have to disagree with this. Which I truthfully feel the need to, but right now I think this is a very good trade off.

As I said in another post, I wouldn´t mind seeing SPRINT as a base trait for all characters.

I like the first idea and second idea, however I´m not too sure about the third and fouth ones. I mean, if anyone can run and hit somebody, a Spartan would be able to do it…

yea, the first 2 are the important ones. the second 2 are just failsafes to make sure no sword + sprint, or shotgun + sprint, or sprint + melee nonsense happens, like if the sprinter uses sprint behind a wall (so he cant be shot), then slices the second he gets to the corner, etc.

As long as a decrease of base player speed isn’t used, I wouldn’t mind.

I agree if they have to have it, but would prefer faster movement speeds to begin with like the older halos, and forget sprint all-together.

There is no way to make it work that doesn’t negatively impact gameplay or map design.

I don’t particularly agree with the last 2. I would have to see how the first 2 affected gameplay, but I’m open to the possibility. I think 2.5 seconds might be a bit lengthy though. The first point, at the very least, is certainly an interesting idea to ponder.

if anything they should add more then just sprint, like being able to sprawl over obstacles at speed when holding LB (A little like battlefield 3) I think that would make chief AWESOME?! he’d be like the super soldier who knows how to free run haha

I think sprint should function more like an alternate form of transportation. That being that you can use it continuously without the panting or recharge after every 10 feet like in Reach. But like the OP stated, a way to balance it would be that damage taken would force a sprinter out of sprint and a delay from exiting sprint to attacking.

However I disagree with a couple points. I think it should take a certain amount of damage to drop a sprinter out of sprint, somewhere between half to full shield dropping damage. 2 or 3 shots from a DMR should be enough, 1 body shot from a sniper should be more than enough, but 1 shot from a AR or SMG shouldn’t be enough because they don’t do enough damage per bullet to really effect an armored super soldier. Only a certain cumulative amount of damage should do it.

I also disagree with the time between damage and sprinting. 2.5 seconds may not sound like a lot on paper, but in a game it can feel like eternity. While I agree there should be some delay from being dropped from sprint to sprinting again, having to wait 2.5 seconds between any damage taken would be ridiculous.

You have a very open mind, don’t you?

I just really really dislike what Sprint does to gameplay. I’m pretty open minded to other things :P.

Ok, but do you honestly think there is no possible way to make it brilliant?!
XD

Nope, it just doesn’t work well in Halo with its longer kill times. We already have the shield system to move from cover to cover without dying, no need to make it any easier to navigate the map.

agree with the first 2 ideas, also i think it should be a basic action for all players and not an AA

No sprint in Halo 4 I dont want to have a lower walk speed because of some stupid pointless -Yoink- just up the walk speed
