If single player was only playable Online

With the release of a certain game in the mold of Gears of War that requires always being online to play, who of those that enjoy the campaign of Halo or indeed any other single player game would be happy knowing they could ONLY play Infinite if online. It’s a practice MS seems increasingly happy to get behind and I’m noticing more games that are simply single player now requiring that you are always online

I think it’s fair to say that the issue mostly isn’t a connection one as most people are connected for most of the time. As well as online interruption, the real issue really comes from down the line when potentially you might not be as able to authenticate the process that allows access to your game. Same thing now with Forge of course. A game like Destiny I can at least understand to a point but a story driven game like Halo game just like every every other one is something people will like to enjoy many years from now and while it’s of course very likely there wont be an issue, there certainly could be. Servers close down or change all the time and then it’s goodbye game. I get that Infinite will enjoy the benefit of online for various things but the core game should be able to play entirely offline otherwise MS or 343 must come out and let people know what they’re buying

I get there are those that perhaps simply like to experience their games of the now and move on. They don’t wish play something of their past. But games fall into the category of entertainment like books or films and as such we tend to expect they will be there even if it means we have to play it on the very same hardware

What are people’s thoughts on this. It’s quite a crucial point in possibly where games go from now on if we happily allow such things to continue onto even our single player experiences and for me personally I wouldn’t be able to commit to this fornrat
