What made me think that is the H5g “sentinel beam”, and i use the term loosely, which has those floaty parts that are infamous from 343i “forerunner” design and many other changes to the point where basically functionality is similar.
I just really hope that its not an implication that 343i would change the design of the simple but effective looking sentinels to some abomination of a promethean version of sentinels.
And i highlight that this is about if the sentinels return, as in hypothetically.

well they probably are if you very closely above the trees in the trailer right before chief is revealed you can see sentinels above the trees

They would be like the sentinels seen in HW2 most probably. Remember, the very same art-director is working on Halo Infinite, so the RTS is a good example of what we can expect art-wise and personally I’m pumped already!^^
I’m more curious to see if those mechanical abominations spawn by Halo 4 known as the Promethean will get a decent redesign as well. Right now I doubt we’ll even see them again considering how negative the reaction was towards them.

The HW2 sentinel design is definitely better than the promethean design but i would still like to see a bit more classical designs. But if its like in HW2 and they appear in infinite then i guess im fine with it.
As for the prometheans, I dont think they will change given their core design is so off. There are ant dogs with some having porcupines mixed in, floating midgets with tiny feet and floating rings, the humanoid teleport happy robots and top back heavy half mechanical whatever things with skulls.
And those are compared to sentinels (like aggressors, enforcers and even constructors) which look like mass produced automated mechanisms. Simple but effective.
And it really is kind of sad but i cant start liking things/designs i dislike because it took work. They got money for it, it was business and it can be critisized. Not implying you disagree, obviously.

even still 343 made it clear that theres stuff that will be in the story and since we are gonna be on halo both 5 and hw2 point to this its safe to say there will be sentinels whether as allies or enemies in halo infinite

Ovenight? It’s been two years,they can easily make an excuse that Cortana considers them “futile” or something like that.
As for Sentinels,I believe they’re going to keep them traditional. What I would love to see, though, is an extreme buff from their Sentinel beams; the novels always describe their effects as devastatingly awesome from multiple references (vaporising marines, cutting apart car-sized limestone boulders).
It would also add the the “forerunner” aspect of their capabilities, rather than being the mechanical alternative to Yanme’e.

Even so, a rushed end to a faction could be worse than keeping disliked faction for a while to give them a proper ending.

I kind of see as to why the beams were not that powerful in-game for balancing reasons at least but it would definitely be interesting given it would show the power other forerunner constructs have, it would make sense that sentinels would be effective against other factions and so on.
It would thought, be quite a jump from recent “no blood” policy in previous installments. Not that it would be impossible.
The buggers and sentinels though, have few things in common like flying, swarm tactics, hive/factory spawn and so on. But they still have differences like sentinels having more precise and mechanical movement, they have more precise beam weaponry, they have shielding, they have rapid spawns in factories and so on.
People have already spotted Sentinels in the trailer. It’s hard to spot but you can see a group of them hovering in the distance just before chief comes into view. It’s not very detailed but it’s definitely Sentinels

Even though such would be better than the “promethianed” sentinels would likely look like, i wouldnt think that anorexic sentinels or bright light speedsters would be the best choice.
So, even though it would be the likely case them being similar to those designs, what would be your preference?

4’s. Still looked like sentinels and felt like an updated version of 3’s.
