If MS had've handled it differently?

If MS had’ve admitted to the mistake on Monday and took the maps away from you then, would you still be mad? Just curious.

I’m not about the maps as it is. If they started giving out Halo 4 for free after I bought it, I would be upset too. The only thing that makes me upset is the fact that instead of owning up to their mistake, they make up all of this trial crap in a half hearted attempt to cover it up. I feel like it is a slap in the face to all of us, because they think that we are stupid enough to think they originally intended for it to be a trial.

That’s the point of my poll. I’m really curious how many people are upset about the way MS has handled this and not about the maps being taken away and how many are just upset because their free maps are being taken away period. Judging by your response I would say you’re probably on the “No” side.

I voted yes by accident, meant to click no, so um please consider no 0 percent untill someone is actually mad :x

I liked the maps, but just for that dumb excuse they used I wont buying it, i was gonna get the achievements legit but I`ll have to boost to get it before the “trial” expires.

-Yoink- you Microsoft, learn how to correct your own mistakes.

I understand that it was a mistake to make them free but lying about it is what I’m mad about. They think we’re stupid and that really bothers me.

This is actually a good poll, and it gets to the root of it.

If MS just fesses up, I’d feel better, even though maps get locked up on 12/18.

If MS had handled things differently all along, I’d feel better.

If MS and 343 hadn’t done what they did to this legacy and this community I wouldn’t be leaving right now to go return Halo 4 and be done with this forever.

I’m out.

I’m not going to be mad when/if they take them away anyway. I was still undecided on if I wanted to get the maps, so this actually works out for me.

That being said, they really should have handled this better. They even told us that if we could download them to do so,“Cuz that’s on us.”

But now, they are trying to play it off like that was the plan all along. It clearly wasn’t.

And of course, 343 deserves 0% of the blame for this (and the spec codes…but let’s not get into that here) seeing as MS is the one who handles all of that stuff.

Be kind to the devs, they are trying.

Thank you for this post and for all the responses on this thread. This has been probably the most civil thread on this forum in the past 3 days. You certainly hit the nail on the head here that MS is the sole offender here and 343 are just the devs, who did an awesome job on the game btw.

The real lesson learned here is for MS to get a new PR team. I may be a minority, but I was not insulted at all by this cover up attempt, I actually found it to be so idiotic and asinine that it made me laugh. I actually enjoyed it. I mean we’ve all seen lame attempts by companies and politicians to cover things up, but this takes the cake.

If the poll is an accurate indication of the general population, MS could’ve avoided so much hurt if they had’ve just fessed up on day one and told everyone that they will be retracting the licenses for the maps, but as a goodwill gesture let you play them for a couple of weeks.

I think they could have handled it a lot better.

  1. let the ppl keep the map pack
  2. give the LE & Season pass buyers 800 MSp back or send them codes for all the pre- order bonuses.

Everyone is happy.

I agree

“The sign of a true professional is not whether or not he makes a mistake, but whether or not he can correct the mistake he makes.”

-Steve Tuttle

Whomever handled this and thought up that crummy excuse should be tremendously embarrassed.
But I don’t understand people getting upset over others getting them for free, I mean the more people that have them the better for the game overall, right?
I got the LE edition but would love for them to be made free for everyone permanently. And I think that is what we all should come together on to insist to those in charge that it is better for the halo community to let this one slide.

im not voting because i own the season pass, but of course the entitled kids who think they innocently got free maps instead of exploiting a known glitch would be mad.

Please provide context, I have no idea what you’re talking about. You haven’t mentioned anything about what this “mistake” is.

Yeah, I voted no. If some people had gotten the maps for free because of a mistake, and in response MS came out and said “We’re aware of the mistake and are working to the resolve the issue” that would have been fine. I wouldn’t have minded that I paid for the Season Pass and people got the maps for free. Instead, someone on their Twitter comes out and says “Our bad, take advantage of our mistake and get the maps for free”, only to change their tune later and come up with their “free trial” idea. As others have said, do they think we’re idiots? Do they not realize things they put on the internet, in public space, are tough to make disappear? It’s simply insulting and very shady.

The mistake I’m referring to is giving the map pack away for free.

LOL, I did the exact same thing. Disregard my vote as well.

.

As many people civilly argued before this spin was put on the mistake, it’s the principle that matters, not who got what for how much. I paid for my maps and was upset when I felt MS was screwing over the paying customer. I’m now also upset they’re simply trying to lie there way outta this, disrespecting their customers yet again. Don’t get me wrong, it’s just, it’s fair, but it’s still take the mick. Bet you guys with the free maps must be disappointed. Feel for you.
