If in Halo X1 Master Chief is no longer following orders from the UNSC and has walked out, quit or deserted then chances are that he would be going to areas devoid of humans and would have to adopt using whatever weapons he can get his hands on which would likely be Covenant or Forerunner.
The other possibility with this assumption is that Halo X1 could only have Covenant or Forerunner weapons in Campaign and Multiplayer. Since the Forerunner weapons mimic standard UNSC weapons maybe a Covenant and Forerunner weapons only Halo could balance out the over abundance of the DMR and BR that plagued Halo 4’s multiplayer. Now obviously the incineration cannon and binary rifle would have to be adjusted to be more on par with the fuel rod cannon and beam rifle so that matchmaking could be more balanced. Also the bolt shot should be turn into a copy of H2’s magnum.
I am not advocating or in love with this idea but do think it’s a theoretical possibility that 343 could be going this way with Halo X1.
he would have taken some guns with him so maybe a pistol and assault rifle and maybe lasky is sending him weapon pods now and again on the hush? never know but even if he teams up with arby again he would have covi but i think they will be in H5 but maybe not as much as halo 4 maybe more covi action seeming there was hardly any in halo 4 i think it would be good if some marines came down with chief aswell or ODST’s as they could see what was really happening so they help out
Why are people assuming that John has gone AWOL? There is nothing really that suggests that this is the case at all, especially since we can’t take anything from the teaser trailer as being true to the actual game.
Furthermore, the Chief was stuck on a Forerunner shield world all on his own, but we still had an abundance of UNSC weapons. I’m sure 343i would find a way if this were really the case.

Actually, Frankie said on neogaf that John was masking his appearance. He didn’t specify the reason, however.
> It’s very likely if Chief were to go AWOL, it would be at a later point in the story.
I have to second that. At first, I thought Chief would go AWOL in the beginning, but I had changed my mind and think he “will” go AWOL towards the middle/end of the story.

It’s not like Chief wouldn’t have a few friends around the UNSC to hook a brother up.
If there’s one thing humans are good at making a lot if, it’s garbage. If there’s two things, the other is guns. Joking aside, there’s all kinds of ways to bring UNSC weapons into the sandbox.

This. I.e. Rebel contraband ordnance.
It would make a lot of sense for him to purposefully conceal his identity if he was AWOL, and/or on Venezia. Venezia is pirate/rebel headquarters. Armed to the teeth with every gun in the galaxy. Also Venezia is populated both by human innies and ex-covie pirates. Mentioning that because the design language in the concept art is kinda ambiguous (can be a combo of human and alien city).
UNSC weapons play too big of a part in halo’s story and matchmaking to become scarce, I think we’ll be seeing plenty of them in the campaign and multiplayer.
That is possible, but then again there are loads of UNSC weaponry seen in previous games that doesn’t feel like it should’ve been there. For example: in halo 4 in the cutscene for the beginning of the fourth mission, Chief is still holding a UNSC weapon ( I can’t remember if it was a BR or an AR), but it seems like he would’ve used up all of the ammo he could find for it on Requiem. Other examples may include the number of UNSC weapons that marine and Chief had in Halo CE.

Because it appears that the UNSC is being run by ONI, who do not seem to be the most wholesome organization around.
Within the universe, there seems to be a ton of revisionist history going on and scapegoating:
Halsey is a war criminal, who went renegade in the Spartan II program
The Chief is characterized as aging and mentality unstable

Black market:
Just go to where the insurrectionists go to purchase their weapons.
