I keep hearing about battle royal coming to Halo Infinite, but if Last Spartan Standing had the lowest player count, why would a battle royal be any different? What is 343s thought process with this? Halo fans clearly reject the idea by not playing LSS so who is 343 trying to please? If their objective is to get Battle Royale fans from games like Fortnite and Apex, wouldn’t those players just stick with the game they already have?

The blaring issue with LSS is that Halo is meant to be a social game and LSS is manifestly an anti social game mode. It wasnt, but the audience for it is so niche that its not worth continuing support. Maybe if you could party up for it, that’d be a different story, but then people would complain about boosters and such
BR is extremely different from LSS when you consider the social aspect of it

BR games and game modes are almost always exclusively sweaty and anti-social/party. Getting one life in a mode where it takes minutes to play more of the game is about as non-social as it gets, imo, but people seem to like that.
I do agree that both game types are vastly different. LSS has almost nothing in common with a BR other than the shrinking map.

Because BRs let you play as a team. LSS sucked because it was entirely an RNG solo mode which felt absolutely terrible because it combined the worst parts of BR and FFA and did a shoddy job at balance.
BR could turn out well, and I have faith that CA can do the Halo franchise justice with a well designed one, but personally I’d never touch it until I’m really out of things to do in main Halo Infinite.

I was just beginning to warm to LSS.
But it was probably pushing it to expect both Attrition and LSS to flourish. And then we have this Certain Affinity project coming.
I hope it comes back as an event… or even expanded to duos and/or trios.
But not every game mode has to survive or go on to be a staple classic.

I agree with this. The br won’t naturally solve the issue of LSS being an anti-social gamemodes as battle royales are extremely anti-social due to how naturally competitive they are. Apex legends looks like a casual teen game at first glance but it really is nothing close to it
although that being said I will admit I love LSS

Annoys me because a Gungame revamped could have been an interesting feature for Halo to push out. Halo with Gungame mechanics but more Halo-ish in gameplay.
Instead we got a poorly balanced pseudo gungame abomination with its only BR aspect being powerups which quite literally broke the mode and ruined the fun. And the worst of all is the elimination and limited lives, because nothing kills the fun for players more than just telling them to sit out cos they’re out. Halo was different than other games because you were never truly out until the match was over, so you could keep playing for fun even if you’re behind. But LSS took that away too.
Think the key difference would be that a BR allows
For team play.
Personally I found the LSS mode encouraged solo play, which is fine if you play solo, but not if you play with friends. A BR, if done right, would be a team affair. That ultimately means your team can drop in like they would with any other playlist.
I’m way more open to this, how about you?

Can’t really compare LSS with a full blown BR. LSS is just a mode within Infinite that is essentially a limited life FFA on BTB maps with only 12 people. BR’s have A LOT more going on than LSS does. Also Infinite is pretty dead in the first place. There’d be a lot more people trying a fully fledged Halo BR than a mini BR mode in Infinite.

LSS always seemed like a low-effort stand-in to tide people over while they work on a proper Battle Royale, one with bigger maps and a larger player count, something that might be too demanding for the Xbox One and might need to be limited to Series and PC.
Players haven’t rejected the entire idea of a Battle Royale in Halo, they’ve rejected the small and stripped down version of it
I think LSS would have been a lot more popular if it was a duos mode.

BRs can include squad modes too, and Infinite already has the revive mechanic from Attrition to make it work.
Would just need bigger maps and a lot more than 12 players to be done properly
Because Certain Affinity or whoever already has resources and time invested before they realized LSS was a flop

I’m vehemently against a battle royal coming to Halo but I think the thought process is with a battle royal you’ll be able to go in with a squad rather than by yourself.
I think the reason why Last Spartan Standing failed so miserably was because it forced you to play without your friends.

Two words “Broader audience”.
Which lets be honest hasn’t exactly panned out as
343 hoped.
Just look at the constantly shrinking player count.
Instead of BR, addressing desync and adding more BTB modes and maps would be a wiser investment.
Just once it would be nice to see 343 keep thier word.
" The only BR we’re interested in is Battle Rifle"
BR will bring player back for maybe a month, and that’s being generous. After that, you will see the population drop again because of the drip feed content.

Nothing “failed” 343 is just being stupid. It was hands-down my favorite mode. Went from not playing Infinite at all to playing it daily since the launch of season 2 “Lone Wolves” C’mon the name is “Lone Wolves”!!!
And you had to be good. OR at least patient enough to get good which, let’s face it, most are not.
By what metric did LSS fail?
Ske7ch said that playlist was the least played this season, or something to that effect.
I doubt the reason for it failing was because of its BR elements. To me, I think it needed a bit more polish before it released. Powerups spawned far too frequently and there was a lot of camping.

Personally I hated that I couldn’t enter it with a squad.
That was literally the only reason I’ve ignored it to date. It’s the only reason I don’t play rumble pit. It’s the only reason I’ll probably ignore doubles for the most part.
Multiteam…now that is something I could get behind…though I’d like a 3x3 team variant over the 4x3 or 6x3 from traditional titles…I just prefer the more snuggly player counts XD
