If John dies, how and then who?

Over the course of a few days, I had a chance to revisit some of my more favorite Halo titles and I always get the goosebumps when I play the first two, CE/2. What was once an exciting and prosperous future for my beloved Master Chief, is now winding down toward the end of that road which seemed so far once upon a time. If Halo 4 and 5 aren’t any indication enough, Halo 6 may rock the entire series and possibly see Chief’s removal, permanently? Now I hold my breath with little faith that would be the case, considering how its been said the story of John has been written for the next 20 years, or actually, Halo’s story.

So I can consider a few possibilities; He gets sucked into slip space, and we go about two entries into the series with him missing completely, just to get the ball rolling on some of these more shallow, hallowed out characters like Palmer and Locke. It’s true, John’s getting old, he’s got cracks around his eyes similar to the size of the craters he leaves in his path. Maybe by his own doing, or through some cosmic force (looking at you big talking tree-tentacle-thing, Gravemind, from H2) that takes him out of the picture, and possibly, the next time we see him, is a rejuvenated, younger man?

The other possibility is to take that dive down the rabbit hole and say Chief’s clock is ticking and it’s about to strike midnight on his fairy tale life. In other words, somewhere between Halo 6-7 he sets off a Halo ring and completely whips himself, and almost half of the UNSC fleet chasing him, trying to prevent that situation. I think this might go more a long the lines of the current direction we’ve been taken in, and it’d make sense. I once wrote in a previous post; Chief finally realizes there is no balance for peace without chaos, no good without evil, and finally as the last sacrifice, sets off the Halo rings to restore that balance he fought so bitterly to tilt in his favor. The fight is finished.

Now I know some people on here have trouble reading, so these two story directions are MY OPINION and no way represent 343i, MS, or anyone else. I’d like to hear what the rest of you guys have in mind, so here’s my question;

If not John, who to take his place?

Try to be a little descriptive, let’s make this fun, not use too much of the lore and be as original as possible. And for the love of God, please don’t attack each other. NO ONE HAS THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION, SO DON’T FEEL ENTITLED TO SAY SOMEONE’S IDEA IS WRONG, k thanks.

Seeing how my spartan is a super sayain god spartan, I’m fairly surprised that she wasn’t in charge of the “mantle” in the first place. I mean, she even was the one that made the spartan program. Without her, there would be no John. Literally the only thing limiting her powers is the fact that the fire nat-- er-- Covenant, stole her powers with their flux capacitor. She has yet to retrieve that flux capacitor and restore her power.

You didn’t even mention the mantle once so why did you choose it as your title?

I can easily see chief dying soon, perhaps in a way to “save” / kill cortana in a parallel to halo 4. The halo series isn’t dependant on the chief, reach and ODST where successes campaign wise and halo 5 has minimal chief.

And it they do another deus ex like they did with cortana and ressurect him instead f creating and interesting plot I’m going to fly to 343 industries and slap them all with a fish.

As for this “mantle”, the way that cortana And the forerunners imposed it was a dictatorial peace, which isn’t something chief believes in, and it’s shown to be a bad thing.

I’m talking about…who is going to be the next lead character if John were to die, kind of mantle. Not like…Halo’s version of a mantle. Just fan fiction, and see who can get it right. Again, I’m not looking for Halo lore, break the boundaries, if you think Halsey gets back in good terms with ONI and starts up the Spartan Program again and pops out another 5 MC’s, then cool.

What if Fred or Linda maybe even Kelley take the Mantle?? I mean after all, those 3 are all very bad -Yoink- characters. Unrelated: I wish Fred fought Locke in the cutscene of Halo 5. Fred is a CQC specialist and would have ruined Locke’s day.

Definitely Linda, if she wasn’t ‘clinically dead’ in Halo: Combat Evolved, a lot more crew of the Pillar of Autumn would have made it off the ring as oppose to just Her, Chief, Johnson and 3 others. Heck Keyes may not have gotten infected.

I think what will happen is in either halo 6 or 7 chief will come face to face with cortana, chief realizes he has to kill cortana to save the universe, it is set on a halo ring in the furthest reaches of the Galaxy, cortana has released the flood and chief must battle thru the flood and Prometheons before a final face to face with cortana in the control room, as the flood overwhelm the remaining Prometheans chief realizes there is only one way to stop cortana, he sets off the ring and destroys once and for all cortana and the flood while sacrificing himself. I feel this would give his death a great weight and have a fitting end to his story

I don’t think hes gonna die anytime soon. Even if he he does, I sure hope the Locke-ness monster doesn’t take over. :stuck_out_tongue:

Turns out Halo was just a complex, intergalactic, alien genocidal Romeo and Juliet story between John and Cortana.

Cortana kills John by composing him within his own armour whilst they make AI/Human love.

The end.

It should be a member of Blue team or Red to be honest, the character needs to be already firmly rooted into the universe yet be likable enough that the community don’t bash them immediately.

I personally wouldn’t mind if chief were to die. Halo has so much potential simply because of its setting and where it takes place 500 years in the future and such. I would think it respectful to give him a good death if they do so however, he is an iconic figure in the halo universe. Moving on tho 343 could explore a different Spartans (blue team specifically)perspective during Chiefs years of service or they could do a new recruit in the Spartan program and show how Spartan training is and the effects it had on him/her through it all up to their first major mission whether it be discovering new promeatheans ruins, finding a new species of hostile aliens that could pose a threat or even human rebellion like the books tell. There’s an ungodly amount of potential the halo story could go through is pretty much my point. They could even do spinoffs playing as other alien factions and see things through their perspective on fighting/working with other species.

He is not gonna die any time soon. And if he does, you can officially call Halo 4 the stupidest game ever.

Chief is the reclaimer. The librarian jacked up his evolution and genetics. He the “chosen one” from both the perspective of humans and good-guy forerunners. He is essentially the one to reclaim the mantle. Probably via an epic brawl with some form of Cortana at the climax of this saga.

To kill him off any time soon would just be awful story telling… But given the last few 343 halo games stories, I guess that would follow the norm…

I think that when Chief goes, it should be fighting. His will be the ultimate sacrifice. He is not afraid to die for humanity. He has proven that point time and time again. What I would like to see is that he died saving Cortana from herself. That’d be awesome because I can already feel the feels…

The master chief will die on the operating table during a frenzied operation to prevent him from being able to run. He will be replaced by Buck as the star of the next halo who will no longer be voiced by Nathan Fillion, but instead by the guy who does those cheese whiz commercials.

As for whether I keep playing halo after that. That depends on a lot of factors: The story, The campaign, whether or not halo 6 ship episodically like 5 did. That kind of thing. If the story is good, I’ll likely still bite.

If not John, I believe it would be interesting to see Buck or maybe Locke as the sole main character. Mostly because Buck is played by Nathan Fillion, but hey, that’s just my opinion.

I would. Once the chief is gone I’m gone. (Unless they “send him off…with a bang” and highly reference him in the following game… And have it focused only Blue Team and how they and humanity are dealing with his loss) Chief has taken over as my Mario and you can’t kill Mario.

Spartans never die.
Haven’t you learned that from Halo 3-4, they all thought Master Chief died after Halo 3, but he came back in Halo 4.

I would stop playing
