Because I’m losing a tiny bit of screen on the sides other players could theoretically see me before I see them? It’s a 4:3 15 inch monitor.
I would say no. Technically, you are at a disadvantage by not being able to see the sides like a 16:9, but the difference is completely nonexistent if your skills allow you to have a strong awareness of where your enemies are without needing to physically see them at all times. Regardless of your aspect ratio, you’ll always be moving your camera to be able to see what you need to; at that point, you’re not even thinking about what you’re missing at the sides of your screen.
If it was a 4:3 SDTV instead, I’d personally say you’d actually have somewhat of an advantage over the average player. I’d pick the lack of input lag over a 16:9 presentation for competitive play any day. Even my new BenQ 10ms gaming monitor with its amazingly responsive feel doesn’t compare to playing on my SDTV.
i totally agree. i noticed my br accuracy went down quite a bit when i switched last night from bubble screen SDTV to HD LED
