If I get put into a game I don't want to play, but I can't leave it since I'd get banned for doing so, I simply don't play the game

Well, in the end your callouts are BS because of already stated circumstances. But sure, go ahead.

Here’s a question: Can you simultaneously hold the viewpoint that 343 needs to do more to prevent cheaters from using aimbots AND also say that cheaters who use aimbots are pathetic?

“Yada yada yada…. Playlist health.”

You missed the point. In one scenario, an action causes a reaction. In the other one, there is no action responsible for the reaction… it’s just an action by itsell. I let you figure out which one is which by yourself. ;D

Actually, you’re the one that missed the point.

I never said these scenarios are 100% analogous. I’m asking you if you can simultaneously hold two specific viewpoints and you refused to answer. And I don’t need time to figure out why you didn’t engage with the question ;D

The banhammer will rightfully strike you down for unsportsmanlike behavior

What’s unsportsmanlike about not participating in something you didn’t choose?

Apparently we are supposed to just kowtow to the holy RNG (which seems to be weighted against giving you modes you need for non-Fracture challenges) and to hell with whether you are playing a mode you enjoy or not. It’s not about your fun or time, for some reason.

This is partly a problem of creating too many modes, and a shrinking population isn’t helping. Arena shooters have spoilt us with variety and choice. I saw it in another game when they tried to funnel players into voting. Players ditch the modes they don’t want to play. I actually prefer playing against bots in modes I like than playing modes I don’t like.

But he did choose

His approach is passive aggressive.

Im genuinely surprised this isnt obviously unsportsmanlike to you

Bungie forced you to hit play on that play list even though you knew you might not get to play a map or mode that you wanted?

You can be mad as much as you want at 343i. Call them scummy for not breaking things up. But the instant you throw other people under the bus because you had a temper tantrum when you didn’t get what you wanted. You’re now just as bad as 343i in mine and many others eyes. It definitely is unsportsmanlike to ruin other peoples fun.

I don’t know if I’d say all of the blame lies with the challenges but it does put a lot of extra pressure on people to play in their own interests instead of as a team.

I was really excited for the Bell Toll visor last week, and got stuck behind a ‘guardian angel’ challenge… decided hell with it, i’m playing for fun, and I had an enjoyable week playing for fun with friends - even some new ones, and completely disregarding challenges. They should really do something more like MCC has

This is my stance on it too. I hate CTF so much I generally avoid ranked and quick play playlists. But if my group is doing quickplay, and we get a CTF, I’ll grit my teeth and work with them to try and win. Dragging your (general ‘you’) feet and being a whiner drags everybody’s moods down. If you find you’re getting too angry about it then take a damn break. It’s just a game.

Bungie?

It’s unsportsmanlike of others to ruin my fun, hence why I proposed solutions so that everyone wins and has fun. The instant you don’t support everyone having fun and have a temper tantrum because other people want what’s best for the game and community you’re now just as bad as 343 in mine and many others’ eyes.

There’s a reason halo will never hold the population other games do

Totally agree with you. I got banned for leaving matches so now i do what you described above. Its a shame 343i cant fix this problem

I think youre underestimating fomo, and the urge people have to unlock the cosmetics. A lot of players are completionists and want to unlock everything which causes people to do unsportsmanlike things

If he was able to get the gamemode he wanted and he was still quitting then you’d have a valid point.

I agree with the title of the thread but not the explanation. If the game or its systems aren’t to my liking I just don’t play and spend some throwaway time complaining about the state of the game. I can’t support intentional AFK, cheating, harassing, disrupting the game or frequent leaving as a means to stick it to the devs.

However in typical fashion there are apologists that defend 343 no matter the circumstance, if not by their support then by dismissing any negativity. Halo has had a veto option in Halo 3 and Halo Reach that generally worked well, MCC has a browser. Ultimately the lack of content and the consistently poor playlist structuring and gametype weighting each release has had causes the underlying issues; playing exactly what/how you want and replayability.

For me I like playing precision starts, a veto option which would allow me to sometimes play BR starts like in 3 or Reach would allow me to enjoy the majority of the little content that exists instead of being relegated to 1 playlist. I love team snipers too but the weird aim feel and the sniper glare kills all interest I have in playing it. I used to have 10+ things I enjoyed doing in a Halo game, now I barely have 1, it’s not worth the time.

I think you should play better quality games OP, ruining other peoples potential fun isn’t respectful or considerate, I wouldn’t stop making noise though, I don’t like the state Halo is in or has been in since the changing of the guard. Not supporting the game, criticising and shaming greedy and distrustful actions is the best course of action, rather than continuing to support by playing.

You act like you didn’t know that Halo has ALWAYS had random game-types since it went online in 2004

Maybe you’re new to the series but its been this way for 18 years.

We should honestly all do this. The challenge system is an abomination; it’s broken by design. The whole thing is built around forcing players to queue up for a slot machine, so that maybe they’ll get the mode they need to progress their challenges. I’m not spending a cent on it while they have this anti-consumer system in place, and I encourage others to do the same. Challenges should make the game more fun, not try to get you to buy swaps and boosts to make them less irritating. While we’re on the subject, why do free players get only 3 slots to complete challenges? That choice was only made as a “f*** you” to the free players in hopes that we’d cave because the grind is so much worse without paying money. Same goes for arbitrarily taking away the s1 pass from free players, after spending the last year gushing about how their battle pass “never expires”. That was such a big fat lie. I was considering spending my money on the s2 pass, but if they treat potential consumers this way, they don’t get my money. Irritating your potential customers into buying solutions to problems you create might be a good business model for the general public, but it won’t get any of my business.

Then why bringing it up? Comparing quiitters and cheaters, no matter to what extend is just plain stupid and misses the point of the problem infinite has. A problem which is a) a known issue for 6 years or even longer and b) can be fixed so -Yoink!- easily. But what did 343 do? They took out the match composer, added dumb and toxic challenges and removed so many loved classic halo lists or combined them into one single one.

Where do cheaters fit into this? A problem which a) exists because people want to compete on a highe level than their skill is and b) can only be fixed to a certain extend.

What viepoints do you mean? That cheaters suck and should be hardware banned from the game? Thas my viepoint on that.

Quitters/Afk players should be punished IF 343 has provided all the tools and design elements to not justifiy quitting. This means:

  • Let people play the game mode they want (IMO even the map)
  • Fix desync completely
  • Remove "host advanatge due to bad seerver selection
  • Rejoin the game, mandatory in ranked playlists
  • Forfeit option
  • Eliminate cheaters 100%
  • Don’t start 3v4 games
  • Don’t punish people for leaving 3v4 or less games
  • Integrate a progression system which rewards good gameplay
  • Remove 80% of the existing challenges
  • Edit: detect game crashes. It’s so embarrising you get banned for having the game crash. lol

THEN we could talk about a punishing system for quitters. But not by banning them from playing (which is complete nonsense given the dying numbers) but rather in another way. Let them not progress on the BP for one day. Pool them up with other quitters and tell them about it.

There is so much you can do to fix a known issue. But again, what is 343 doing? Keeping the same lazy system and even putting LESS effort in it. A simple message telling you you get banned when leaving would prevent some quits. Hell, they had it in H5. Tell people that they gonna get banend if the leave this specific game would prevent A LOT of rage quits. But no… stick to the dumb, lazy path… because of work/life balance. screw that…
