What would Halo be called if it wasn’t called Halo?
I have no idea. But seriously, the name of the franchise, Halo, reminds me of Ben 10. In Ben 10, Ben had 10 aliens to transform into, hence, the name of the TV series and franchise. But then he got more than 10, but the franchise still held it’s title name.
For Halo, it probably got it’s name from the Halo rings. But not all entries such as books and video-games focus on the Halo rings. There is no Halo ring in Halo 3: ODST, or Halo: Reach, or Halo Wars. Halo could have been called something else, but I feel that it was chosen as the franchise’s title name because it sounded cool and fitting and they had no other idea of what to call it.

Well there is actually a Halo in Reach, and considering that ODST is sort of an expanded volume of 3 (which involved Installation 00), the name still fits…
As far as an alternate name for the series, I figured “Spartan” would be a pretty good name…

The Covenant are a band of separate species united in one common goal: the Great Journey. How in all the terra firma we walk are they NOT united? Even when the prophets, the identified leaders of the former Covenant are killed and exposed for what they are, a lot of the covenant STILL choose a side to fight with and choose to not go their separate ways. In certain circumstances, the covenant is more united in its roots then the entire UNSC.
I don’t know what I would have called the series, but following Halo 3 (besides Halo Wars), I would have dropped “Halo” from the title. It’d be ODST, Reach, and Requiem (H4), with the tag “A game in the Halo Universe,” or something like that.
You might ask, why do this? Well, the answer is simple. People like to complain about recent games “not being Halo.” Well, this would solve that problem. It wouldn’t be “Halo,” it would be its own game, allowing 343 to make it how they want.
