If Halo 5 Fails...

What will happen if Halo 5 fails? At this point, it’s impossible to say if it will succeed or sink like Halo 4 did. So I want to know what you think would happen if Halo 5’s population plummeted as fast as Halo 4’s.

Personally, I don’t think Microsoft would retire the series. Not so long as people keep buying it. But I think they’ll realize the series will not be a profitable with future attempts. No matter how you see it, a lot of fans are disillusioned with the series, and to Halo 5 die might leave them permanently hopeless after Halo 4 and the MCC’s catastrophic launch. I think Halo needs to be able to satisfy the older fans and keep new ones. Of course, copying recent trends has just alienated the old fans and while new players might like that, they’ll quickly move onto other games like Call of Duty and Battlefield.

But I think Microsoft will try to listen and milk the die-hards by going for a classic approach with each Halo game, very similar to Halo 2 and Halo 3. They’ll continue milk that formula just like Call of Duty has been doing. If that doesn’t work – and sales keep declining each release – I think Microsoft might actually get a new development team or sell the franchise to another publisher. As much as they like the money Halo generates, I don’t think Microsoft would hang on to the franchise if it was no longer profitable to them.

So where do you see the franchise going if Halo 5 and subsequent games die and receive a poor reception from the community?

As long as they make money, I don’t see halo dying.

Here’s the funny part: Halo 5 is basically my GOTY by default, BUT it doesn’t mean I won’t be playing other games this November. With every game, there is the huge frenzy of players, then people begin to swap around and play other games, then hopefully comeback. Halo 5 seems to have plenty of hype, so if it gets the sales, that’s one success. I can easily see Halo 5 getting fantastic reviews. To nostalgic fanboys, it’s bad (somehow), but to a professional game journalist who plays so many different games for a living, they can’t really complain about a few changes to an incredibly well polished game.

If CoD and the Transformers movies are any indication, they’ll keep going. They already said they want the series to last 30 more years.

I guess that’s true. Halo 4 got an 87 on Metacritic and won numerous awards, even in spite of all the hate it received from fans and its population declining so fast. Even if fans hate it, Halo 5 is like to receive positive reviews and some degree of commercial success. I just worry if sales begin to decline from there with each future game.

Well, black ops 3 basically looks like AW2, and battlefront has 1/4 the content on battlefront 2, so halo 5 has less a chance of tanking than halo 4 did.

It’s the next major Halo game. It’ll sell millions of copies just because of that.

if were talking about sales, halo 4 didn’t fail, it doesn’t matter what the population of the game is to Microsoft as long as the game sells well

Nobody knows the true size of battlefront yet, those are rumors. We have not even seen gameplay yet.

343 and the 343 defense crew will blame literally everything besides sprint. 343 will remove all the fad movement mechanics besides sprint and replace them with whatever the new fad mechanics are in the genre. h6 will then fail, and the cycle continues.

And you, sir, do not know what “literally” means and have spoken of nothing on these forums but sprint. Halo 5 has it. Get over it or move on. [insert cool jpeg of dog with sunglasses because I don’t feel like it]

And there’s no moderation allowed in-between there it seems. You can only be for or against them, god forbid we try and be objective in-between. “If you’re not with me, then you’re against me!” Love that quote.

Sprint was in it before 343 took over, bromeo.

Ok? Your point?

hopefully they don’t follow the 343 curse and have poor playlist structuring, a ranking system that doesn’t work, sloppy user interface and a very poor matchmaking and party stability.

His point is that you are making a composition fallacy in assuming that Halo 5 will failure in commercial and critical success due to the (nerfed) sprint mechanic. Which wasnt even a major factor in the way Halo Reach and 4 perceived fallings. Halo 5 can fail in more than one way particularly if the game launched in a state similar to MCC.

That was all in Halo 4? wow that’s mighty creative. I get MCC, but other one…mmm not so much.

I find it strange that the 343 defense crew defended the mechanic before they could materialize into existence. But this is just me and my wild goose hunts.

We know to defend it because it’s all graham talks about.

IF H5:G fails, I’m sure it wouldn’t be so much of a loss of profits that they could not continue to make games, in fact, I don’t think it’s really possible at this point for them to lose money on H5:G.

Worse comes to worse, microsoft kicks 343 out and finds another company.
