If Halo 4 fails, then everyone will pay.

I just wanted to share a thought with you all…

So there are a lot of people complaining about Halo 4 and in my opinion I don’t care for the changes 343 want to implement. However we have the right to complain I just choose not to as it seems no one will ever listen.

So we all know it’s long past the time that Microsoft should be releasing new hardware, and there is near constant talk of Microsoft releasing a new console.

Now when Halo 2 was around people thought it was the bomb, it caused a massive number of players to purchase the Xbox 360 on release or shortly after in anticipation of Halo 3. Just looking at the sales stats in the first year of Halo 3’s release the Xbox 360’s sales quadrupled.

Halo 2’s success made Halo 3 a highly anticipated title. Halo 3 made the Xbox we know today.

But what will Halo 4 do if it fails like some people expect it to? I think it would stunt the growth of the next console. If Halo 4 is bad I sure as hell won’t spend my money buying a new console and a game or at least no straight away, and I am sure others would agree.

The only real question is what game if any could save the console if Halo did. Not saying it will, fail.

Second thought… If Halo 4 upsets the more hardcore fans and is a step away from what the hardcore and longtime fans are used to and caters more to a no-halo player group. That is going to kill both Halo and the new console. If the hardcore fans are unhappy they won’t buy the game and the dirt of Xbox super super casual gamer’s won’t buy a new console that’s for sure.

What rock are you living under?

These days…people will buy it for Call of Duty or other major titles.

Halo 4 does not have to succeed for the next generation Xbox.

If I don’t like Halo 4, Xbox is tossed, simple as that…

On the contrary, you are incredibly wrong and OP is right.

  1. Call of Duty is multiplatform, you can play it on Wii U as well as Ps4 or xbox 720, and since xbox 720 is the only where it costs to play online, people will most likely buy it elsewhere since Sony won’t use a bad architecture.
  2. The last Call of Duty was the first in a long time not to break sales record, on the contrary it sold 4,2% less, which is an obvious sign that CoDs glory days are commin to an end (like most IPs milked by Activision).
  3. MS needs strong IPs to sell a console, since the exclusives are what you buy a console for (a majority does at least). Wii U will have decent hardware and hence can play ported Ps4/720 games, and will be cheaper. Add a few Mario games and MS got it really though this time.
Ps4 on the other hand does not have any as strong exclusive, but Sony got a multitude of strong exclusive that together can match MS, not to mention free online play and Free DLC, games etc via PSN plus, which ain’t more expensive then gold.
MS has lost most exclusives like Mass Effect and Bioshock, or killed them like Age of Empires, Freelancer, Kameo, Perfect Dark etc. Even Gears of War ain’t excluisve, Epic owns that IP and might release it to Ps4 any day if Ms stops paying (it’s expensive). What MS got is Fable, Halo and Forza, only one of them big enough to carry a console (Halo). If Halo fails, Ms can’t sell their console, and xbox will fail. Sure, some will buy iy but it’ll be like the original xbox only worse, a big fail.

I’ll probably end up enjoying Halo 4, though i REALLY want more details and to try it out for a more accurate way to judge it.

I don’t think everyone will pay. Sure the competitive side can say that the world will end if Halo 4 doesn’t do good by MLG/classic Halo but we all know that won’t happen. Casuals are more or less on board with halo 4. Though no hardcore halo player will admit it, we’re minority here OP, especially on forums. I mean, we stuck around for Reach and we know how that’s a joke competitively speaking.

Eh call me optimistic but i am not quite ready to call Halo 4 instant fail. Skeptic but not a total downer either.

Nothing wrong with criticizing but the line between being realistic and just depressing becomes blurry real fast.

Disagree.

On this current day, there are far greater things than Halo on the Xbox360 that people will purchase the next Xbox for. In the past, yes, it was dominated by Halo. Times have changed my friend. I want Halo4 to succeed and make us buy the next Xbox. But if it doesn’t, I don’t see Microsoft going down without a fight.

Sure, to people in the US the xbox might have something to offer, but to the rest of the world we get more features, for free, from Sony or (probably) Nintendo. I can earn trophies as well as achievements, I can play my old games on my 360 and don’t need a 720 for that.
Really, the only reason to buy a 720 is the exclusive games, since most if not all features are available at Ps3 (Ps4), I can even use a 360 pad on a Ps3. Exclusives are extremely important to new consoles, since they’re the main selling point (buy 360, play Halo 3). When the 720 launches it wont’ have any games, it’ll get some crappy exclusives (Kameo, Perfect) but probably more Kinect games since they’re cheaper and can sell for a long time.

MS won’t go down without a fight, you’re absolutely right, and that’s the reason we’ll have Halo 4 this early, for the 360. Reach didn’t ensure the 360 popularity or the love from the core gamers, and hence Ms has to “bribe” us.
If initial 720 sales are low, Ms will act, sure, but without Halo Ms got nothing literary. Gears ain’t exclusive, Epic might take off any day they like and anyhow, 3rd person shooter just ain’t as big as FPS. MS two biggest other IPs, Forza and Fable, can at best sell a few million copies despite 50 million xboxes.
Halo alone can sell over 10 000 000 copies, one for every 5-6xbox there is. MS needs Halo to sell the 720, it’s their strongest card, and that’s why they’re not only releasing Halo 4, but releasing it the same day as the main opponent, CoD, to check the market and our “loyalty” to the brand.
Truth to say, it would be good if Ps4 and Wii U would outsell the 720 initially, it would force MS to be less greedy and more rewarding to us, give us better deals and better games. Remember while Sony was closing in and Wii had huge sales?
Deal of the Week, Christmas sales and such wee epic!!
Not they’re horrible since MS feels “secure” and sony is giving away free games, dlc, themes and such to be able to compete. It would be nice to get some stuff from Ms for a change, instead of paying for things that are free on “the dark side”

Have they confirmed BO2 is being released the same day?

Sure seems like it ^
This is a battle you don’t want to miss, I’ll tell you that much

I can’t remember the exact numbers at this time, but currently and for the past several months MS has been outselling Sony console wise, this is probably why they feel so “secure” as you put it. Halo 4 won’t be a flop, you can say Reach was, but it made more money than most like to admit. It was, and still is a commercial success. the Nextbox, doesn’t have anything to worry about with Sony shooting themselves in their own foot. Oh and let’s bring up the Wii U, it has the processing power of THIS generations consoles, meaning the 360 and the PS3, Nintendo is off their game. I don’t know if they think they’ll compete with MS and Sony a year after the new consoles are released, but they won’t. Nintendo lost so much money these past few years it’s ridiculous. You should really read up on the sales figures. Also while on the subject of exclusives titles, I’ll agree with you that Halo, Fable, and Forza are probably their biggest, but MS has a lot of Exclusives, MS isn’t going anywhere for a long while, not to mention there are a lot of PSN exclusives that have been coming to the Xbox Arcade. Sony lost a lot of fans with their whole hacking fiasco, and are continually losing to MS at the moment. When the next series of consoles comes out, Wii U will be on top until MS and Sony declare war, then we’ll see, but I see it being a close race, which both will be making plenty of money.

Also about CoD, yes it’s multiplatform, but I have a lot of buddies who literally sold their PS3s just to get an xbox for the early DLC that comes to Xbox first.

Halo 4 will do just fine, Halo 5 will do just fine. As long as MS continues to make money off the game. Even if all the people on this forum didn’t buy Halo 4, MS would still make money off of it because this forum isn’t the large number of people still playing Reach. Yes, give me figures about how Halo 3 had a better population this far into it’s lifespan, but Reach still has 100,000 every time I get on. That’s 100,000 copies pretty much sold. Then you take into account all the other people who will buy it, then all the companies like Gamefly, who rent the game out, they’ll buy several copies. Trust me when I say this game, and this console will do just fine, don’t worry your pretty little head about it.

UMMMM where in the WORLD are you getting your info from?

Modern Warfare 3 outsold black ops x3 in 15 days. Black Ops is beating MW3 sales wise per month afterwards, but MW3 still has more copies sold because everybody bought it on release. Plus, in the event that MW3 did sell less… OH NO CoD sold 500,000,000 dollars and not 700,000,000!!! Yeah a 200,000,000 dollar decrease means dead…

You should reverse the title, I believe people pay for the game first, then see if they like it or not.

#justsaying

Xbox no longer needs Halo to survive, 720 will need to make do without it if necessary.

> Xbox no longer needs Halo to survive, 720 will need to make do without it if necessary.

Nope, it won’t happen. The most important thing early in a generation is exclusives, since exclusives are the number 1 reason people buy a console. MS got many great IPs, but few active, and Halo is by far their biggest. 1 game of each Forza+Fable+Project Gotham Racing+Kameo+Bunjie Kazooie+Perfect Dark = One Halo Game sales. One Halo has sold about as much as All Forza or all Fable Combined. Hack, one Halo (Halo 3/Rach) has single handed outsold most Ps3 exclusives.
Ms needs exclusives, their second biggest, Gears, is not even an exclusive but a 3rd party game they have to pay top dollar to keep. they focus on Kinect and casual games, nice, but 720 will be to expensive and no casuals will buy it at release, that’s when they need Halo 5 or similar to attract a crowd.

If I can remember correctly, the reason I bought an xbox was… Oh yeah, for Halo, period.

If Halo 4 tanks, do you really think I’m going to spend 1000$ on an xbox that will brake after 1 year and force me to pay the same price to have it repaired. No.
