If Forerunners intervened...

If the Forerunners where to say come back expecting the Reclaimers to have a huge empire spanning the galaxy only to discover them getting their -Yoink- handed to em on a platter and on the recieving end of genocide( Note: you can say if its either before or after the great schism) what do you think would happen

Help them.

Humans were advancing at their own rate. They didn’t expect a group of aliens that advanced to attack them.

Just like Mass Effect. One day trying to figure out how something works, four hours later, there’s a -Yoinking!- super race attacking you.

I think it becomes a moot point once the Forerunners do step out. The whole Covenant religion was based off of the Forerunners being “Gods” and them disappearing by going on the great journey. Once they show up, that shows everything the Covenant was believing was wrong. And in all honesty, if the Forerunners felt humans were to be the inheritors of the mante, when the Forerunners show up and see that the Covenant is using a keyship as their flagship, I’m sure they’d go ahead and take care of that issue. And probably go after the Covenant themelves for all the destruction they caused with Forerunner tech.

The Didact would probably be uber-pissed that the legacy of his wife that she ostensibly died for was being erased by a bunch of pseudo-intellectual thieves with a severe case of egocentrism. That, and it explicitly goes against everything the Mantle stands for.

The prohpets would’ve been exposed as liars the moment the forerunners started communicating. The entirety of the covenant couldn’t deny the truth at the point, brutes, jackals, grunts, etc alike.

i have to agree with all of these answers, the covvies would be in for a free trip to hell, well the san shyuum mostly

If this is true, and they do come out and they kill off the covvies, then this would greatly advance our technology, if the Forerunners are willing to share information.

One thing I never understood. If the Forerunners made us reclaimers of their tech and the mantle, why the -Yoink- havent they just left a facility with their tech on Earth or Mars for humans to discover? Humanity would be like tier 1 by now if they did.

i wondered the exact same thing, perhaps we will soon find out? and were it so easy then the librarian would have been saved and the covvies wouldnt dare touch us

No the covvies would still try to kill us but they die before we could blink lol

The think with that is we never understood exactly what the forerunners wanted us to do. Some believe in that version of the reclaimer idea based off what 343 said but at the same time 343 has a limited amount of knowledge and didn’t even explain what he meant.

Well, the forerunners DID leave their tech on our planets, spiraling outward from earth. I feel like we weren’t supposed to find them “until we were ready”, however the covenant war pushed us to finding it much sooner than they wanted.

I mean, Reach was the first planet we colonized after Earth, and it had some artifact that helped us discover halo. I feel the forerunners did that on purpose.

Thats all subject to your perception of the events. Did they leave their tech on our planets? Or did we colonize planets that had their tech on it? You know what I mean?

Also in the Forerunner saga novels, Earth only ever contained the Portal. The Forerunners (mainly due to the Librarian) used Earth to research the humans. And as a sanctuary for them. Mars was a mining station. I doubt they would have had a plethera of buildings there. It just seems like the Forerunners were building stuff on planets getting closer to Earth. And from what it seems Earth is the only planet that was devoid of artifacts (save for the Portal).

The San’Shyuum definitely had the keyship. We could assume there were other Forerunner buildings and artifacts there. But we can’t know for sure because that planet was destroyed. The Sanghelli have Forerunner buildings on their planet. The Lekgolo had Forerunner buildings. Essentially all the Covenant species had Forerunner artifacts, which is what drew the San’Shyuum to them. All except for Earth.

So thinking about it like that. Would that mean these species were reseeded on Forerunner planets? Or that the Forerunners did their ‘planet shuffle’ to all these species, and the reseeding just put them back on their own homeworlds?

I somehow recall a giant Forerunner megastructure somewhere in Africa with the purpose of teleporting stuff, filled with some of the most advanced Forerunner tech there was. But it’s probably something I have made up…

I don’t understand why everyone is saying the Covenant religion would faulter. Living, breathing Forerunners would be their holy grail. They would be worshiped and treated like gods. And if the Forerunners that came back were evil like Faber, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind having an entire armada that will do whatever they say at their disposal.

Probably because they’d learn the truth. The forerunner would tell them that humans were their heirs and they’ve been killing them the entire time. They’d see that the great journey (as they know it) is a lie and they were just a really advanced species, not gods.

With so much of their religion being a lie, I’m not sure why they’d feel inclined to keep following it.

Could be an evil forerunner, but by the time the rings were fired and they went on the REAL “great journey”, it seems most of them were on the same page.

Though I kinda theorize that the neo-covenant could have found Faber locked away in a stasis pod or something somewhere (installation 07?), and he’s the one sending them to requiem or something.

Something something something

Is there really a difference? Not to offend anyone, but is there? Aztecs, Cortés?

Well, the covenant thought that there was this great journey and this eternal paradise that they go to. As far as we know this paradise doesn’t exist. With no supernatural paradise, the forerunners stock falls severely. IMO that is the difference between the forerunners being gods and them being just another species. Not to mention that the forerunners are just as fallible as any other race. They aren’t even remotely perfect beings.

Now the precursors, they’re supernatural for the time being. They create species, and if they did create the flood, they have psychic powers (gravemind is psychic).

By that logic the Prophets should’ve let the humans in the Covenant instantly, yet they tried to exterminate them simply because humanities existence as Reclaimers threatened the foundation of the Covenant and the Prophets power.
