If Firefight Were Replaced With This...

…Would you be ok with it?

This is an idea I’ve been thinking about. It takes the basic concept of Invasion from Reach, throws in some Halo Wars, a little Firefight, and utilizes the hardware specs of next-gen consoles to create a large scale, strategy-based multi-objective gametype. Let’s get into details…

*Note that I’m not referring to any particular games abilities so I just kinda smushed them all together.

The game centers around Spartan’s Vs. Elites, each consisting of teams of 12. Each team has classes that only a certain amount will fill. Four Scouts, Two Supports, Two Pilots, Two Stealth, and Two Operators. Each Class determines your abilities.

Scouts are basic soldiers that can only use spawn weapons like BRs, DMRs, ARs, and basic armor abilities like Sprint, Thruster Pack, or Jetpack.

The Two Supports have high powered weapons, like Shottys, Rocket Launchers, etc., and have armor abilities like Hardlight Shield, AutoSentry, or Armor Lock. They play a defensive role and guard important players.

The Two Pilots are able to drive otherwise non-drivable vehicles that play key roles in gameplay, like Pelicans, Elephants, Albatrosses, etc., which I’ll get into later.

Stealths have either extremely CQC or Long-Distance weapons, and use Active Camo to get the jump on the opposing team.

Operators start with basic Spawn Weapons but can pick up all other weapons. They have simple armor abilities like Sprint and are responsible for all the button pushing and objective-completing.

All classes transfer over to Covie equivalents for the opposing team.

The game acts in classic Invasion Three-Part missions, but on a much grander scale. The abilities and utilities the players have access to increase with the game, but not necessarily with the three objectives, but more in overall progress towards those objectives. When the game begins, Each team spawns in a Home Base, Usually a large structure or ship, which is unattainable to the other team. When no other spawns are available, players will spawn here. The Home Base is also where ‘Pilot Only’ vehicles will spawn.

Before the first objective can be thought about, each team will want to establish a base in the battlefield, other than the Home Base. Pilots can fly Albatrosses and place them down somewhere on the map. Once an Albatross is placed, it is put into a defensive mode where the opposing team cant get inside, however they can destroy it. Pilots will want to place the Albatross in the most strategic location for spawning. Once an Albatross is placed, players can spawn inside of it, and from there spawn small vehicles like Warthogs or Mongooses. (dependent on the time of the game). The Albatross cannot be moved after it is placed. I’m not sure what can be used as a Covie Equivalent to an Albatross.

From there players can work together and utilize their classes to complete the objectives. After the first objective is complete. As the game progresses, teams have more access to other cool stuff that must be used strategically. Albatross bases can receive upgrades like barriers and sentries to be protected. At one point, players can unlock Elephants (Shadows? for the Covies) which will spawn the same as Albatrosses but can be moved. Eventually after that, they can spawn Darters (Lich for Covies), which are larger versions of the Albatross that can spawn Scorpions, Rocket Hogs, or Hornets/Falcons. (Wraths, Revenants, Banshees)

Players can also eventually request an NPC backup, which must be fulfilled by the Pilots. Pilots can fly a Pelican (Phantom) full of NPC’s to the requested area the assist the players. Dependent on the time of game, players can have access to Small armed Marines, Heavy armed Marines, ODSTs, Bullfrogs, and a pair of Hellbringers (Grunts, Jackals, Brutes, Jump Pack Brutes, Hunters).

The objectives will be like those in Invasion, and require an offense and defense team depending on the map. Teams will have different utilities based on whether they are offense or defense. Teams will have to work with their different classes to get things done. For instance, the Supporters will defend the Operators at all costs, since they are the only ones who can complete the objectives. The Scouts act as cannon fodder while the Stealth works from a distance, and the Pilots act as strategic backup.

So what do you guys think? Could this massive hybrid of popular game modes that involve strategy, utilization, teamwork, classes, multiple cool vehicles and large scale epic battles with NPCs replace Firefight mode. Obviously Spartan Ops wasn’t enough, but is this a worthy successor to it in Halo 5? Its big enough to be its own game mode, and unless they can throw Firefight in with this somehow then its one or the other. Would you play this?

What are your thoughts on this? I’d love some feedback and new ideas to mold this into a -Yoink- replacement for FF or just another regular game mode.

It sounds cool but I don’t think it should replace fire fight. Maybe it could be seperate.
