If Faber was the villain of Halo 4

Faber-Of-Will-And-Might is a very interesting character. He was the Master Builder, and a very arrogant and focused on keeping the Forerunners as the dominant species in the galaxy, with the Builders being the dominant rate. He was willing to lie, cheat, and kill in order to achieve his goals. However, towards the end of the Forerunner-Flood War, he is informed that his family has been consumed by the parasite. By the time of his death, Faber came to realize that he was focused on all the wrong things in his life. In a final act of redemption, Faber gave the IsoDidact a teleporter to get him to safety. However, let’s imagine a different story where Faber (not having a change of heart), survives to the end of the war. The Ur-Didact died in Silentium, with Faber being the 1 to be on Requiem. Thus setting the stage for Halo 4.

I would have the opening missions be relatively the same, no much change there. Upon being released from his Cryptum (Warrior-Servants were most common in using them, but other rates also used them), Faber would quickly get Jul’s Covenant under his command much like the Didact. However, this is where I would change things a bit. Faber’s goal wouldn’t be to wipe out Humanity. His goal would be to bring the Forerunners back and return to being the dominant species in the galaxy. Humanity wouldn’t be exterminated, but devolved and made primitive yet again. Not every story has to involve the threat of Humanity being wiped out. There can still be big stakes without “no more mankind”. Interestingly though, I would have it where Faber isn’t just planning this for Humanity, but all species. He is merely using Jul’s Covenant faction to get Humanity out of the equation more quickly. I would introduce Genesis in Halo 4, with Faber learning there are other living Forerunners. He would then speak with them and convince the population that the galaxy is out of control. That the Forerunners must come return and assert stability and control.

These are just some ideas of mine. Would love to hear your thoughts and how you would’ve taken the story if Faber was the antagonist of the game.

I agree. Faber would have been better. He’s a great character, as you said, and the Ur-Didact kinda seemed like all he wanted was mindless attacks on humanity, before I read the Forerunner Saga.

I wouldn’t say he’s better, would just be interesting if they had gone with him instead of the Didact. Though yeah, would’ve been interesting to see what they could’ve done with Faber.

I mean, not really? We learn about why he hates humanity and feels we are not worthy of the legacy of the Forerunners. Personally, I never totally bought the idea ALL the Forerunners would be cool deeding their -Yoink- to humanity.

In my opinion Faber was far more out of his mind than the Didact was. His arrogant decisions led to the release of the Primordial, led to the genocide of the San Shyuum and he was also responsible for the deaths of so many of his own people and humans alike after all of his “tests” got loose on Zeta Halo. He certainly would have made for an interesting villain in the current timeline of the Halo Universe.

I’d live to see a prequel set of games with Faber as the villain using Greg Bear’s novels as source material. It’d be interesting to see the forerunner civilization at its peak.
