Careful asking for sources around here lol.
It’s still running on Infinite you numbskull. Do you think they’re just gonna release Tatanka on a separate download and infrastructure?
Yes.
You know, like how Ghost Recon did it and now they cancelled the game because it was going to fail and was a waste of time/resources.
So 343 is going to most likely do the same so that when it fails, they only have to cancel the BR game and not scrap the entirety of Infinite.
PLUS
this way it is an optional download onto your system instead of it being a MASSIVE update of what most players will view as bloatware.
Knowing 343’s leadership, they are more likely to cancel Infinite’s MP support and support Tatanka instead, leaving it as a shell for future Campaign DLCs and just normal MP play.
And that will just nudge the pieces further into where I want them to execute my S-117 plan.
It’s cute that you think that’s all a Battle Royale needs to be successful.
Think about what PUBG, Fortnite, and Apex all have - they have a loot system. You trade attachments and move things around to specialize your weapon. Halo Infinite doesn’t have that. So, now, you have to add an entire functional on-the-fly attachment system so that you can put a red-dot on your Assault Rifle.
PUBG I know for sure also has bullet-drop. Halo Infinite’s current Sniper rifle would absolutely dominate a Battle Royale, seeing as how it has zero bullet-drop and does insane damage, dropping shields with the first shot, killing on the second if you don’t get a headshot with the first shot.
Then vehicles have their own separate level of balance. They have different seats and fuel capacities. Warzone may allow you to have an Attack Chopper, but it’s a relatively slow-moving target. Could you imagine something like the Banshee or Wasp in Warzone? It would dominate.
So yeah, that’s just a few bits of “evidence” to suggest that a Halo Battle Royale, with Halo as is, just would not work. Sure, you can re-design the game so that it can work, but that’s not the point. It’s going to take a serious amount of effort on CA’s side to get even a prototype of a Halo Battle Royale functional, and even then, it’s not likely to be competitive with established players in this field.
Halo BR? Seriously?! I thought they were joking making one…
Fortnite is actually a terrible example for you to use. It originally no attachments. Just weapon rarity which plays in Halos favor with the different Tiers of power and map weapons basically functioning the same way.
Warzone is probably the best example of guns not being balnced for a BR in the MP then a BR with separate tuning was made. MW2019 did not have bullet drop in MP but then the BR comes out and does. The weapon tuning is probably not the hardest thing they will have to do. Stable servers and gameplay will be more difficult considering the state Infinite is currently in. So yeah difficult in some respects but most of the foundation is there. Its probably going to take some work but a Halo BR could definitely work and people saying it can’t just don’t want it to work.
Again it all comes down to you just don’t want to play the mode (which just so happens to be the most popular game mode right now in FPS games). Halo is not some series that never copies modes. Look at Firefight, it was just a horde mode (which was the big mode to copy back in the day) with a Halo spin, thats all a Halo BR would be.
I kinda disagree.
343 has copied so much from Fortnite when designing the game already -
The multiplayer is a Free-to-Play experience when it comes to PvP
The storymode PvE experience wasn’t available at launch and is still incomplete and you have to pay full price for it.
The cosmetic items are locked away in a shop that rotates weekly and sells you skins and re-skins at overpriced sales that give us so little per bundle.
The Battle Pass, but that is an easy nitpick because literally EVERYONE now has a battle pass system for some reason.
All that is missing is the build-battling, emotes, and an extra dose of cringe in the community.
Which I can see the Halo BR doing.
Build-battling?
Well, how convienient that we have something called HARD LIGHT in Halo and it can be DEACTIVATED or made to deteriorate when damaged?
Emotes?
PERFECT, now we have ANOTHER customizable to add into the weekly shop rotations!
More Cringe?
The Battle Royale will already pull it in!
Now yes if they keep catering to the Fortnite kids a Halo BR will be more like that but in his instance he was saying Fortnite and the other BRs used an attachment system which Halo lacks. I was merely correcting that part because originally Fortnite did not have separate attachments. If a Halo BR is done right it would be awesome. Luckily 343 outsourced development of the Halo BR so hopefully none of the H4 or H5 Halo blood taints it. Just give us simple classic Halo gameplay in a BR mode. (Also yes i do not like the free to play model, i think it hurts games more than helps them. And at some point yes you want to gatekeep people out of Halo, mainly people who don’t actually like Halo and want it to be something its not [which is how we got H4 and H5] so free to play trying to gain a massive fan base just brings these people in who really don’t enjoy Halo for what it is but that doesn’t mean Halo can’t take popular modes and put its Halo spin on them ex: Firefight)
I was making a quip at the fact that 343 only knows how to copy formulas of other games that are not Halo games and trying to make it a hybrid abomination of Halo and other stuff.
Halo 4 they tried being Call of Duty and Halo Reach.
Halo 5 saw them try to make a mobility-shooter experience with Halo 2.
Halo Infinite sees them adopt Fortnite’s business model and try to emulate Halo 3 & Halo Reach gameplay.
Dunno’! But that’s an impressive lack of citations.
And it has weapon attachments now, making your point irrelevant.
And again, Fortnite has weapon attachements now, as does Apex and PUBG, as well as Warzone. You can ship a Battle Royale without weapon attachments to try something new, but that creates a balancing problem. This means that there’s little progression of weapons themselves outside of which you prefer based on combat encounter. Because of Halo’s existing balance, the Battle Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Stalker Rifle, or Shock Rifle would be the epitome of “best weapons” in a Battle Royale sandbox.
And it requires a significant amount of tuning and balance per weapon, time and effort I would rather see a contracting agency like Certain Affinity place onto new weapons for the existing game or map design. The number of resources and time invested in a Battle Royale could be placed into Halo Infinite’s existing content to make it dramatically better.
What are you talking about? There’s no foundation here period. There’s an expectation of how weapons should work, but there’s nothing for the balance required of a Battle Royale.
You can make a reality of anything if you pour enough time and resources into it - that doesn’t mean it’ll be good, it just means that it can and will exist. Leading into my next point…
No, because I hate Battle Royales and I anticipate Microsoft to shift resources and effort over to the Battle Royale if it’s successful. If the Halo BR is a success, that’s the end of Halo Infinite’s Arena portion, and the players who like that segment of the game are out of luck - go play something else, Halo is yet another Battle Royale series instead of the thing you like.
Then there’s also the chance that this thing is going to be a massive waste of time and resources. I personally don’t anticipate the Halo Battle Royale to be a success because the market is saturated with big boys that have the vast majority of market share. Between Apex, Fortnite, PUBG and Warzone (soon to be Warzone 2), I don’t think there’s a spot for Halo to get in there, least of all with all the negative will coming off of Halo Infinite.
The issue isn’t copying modes, it’s doing it poorly and not putting the Halo spin on it. Given 343’s track record, and assuming 343 management is directing Certain Affinity on this, I imagine that this Battle Royale will be just like everything else around it and barely differentiate itself from the competition other than having a Halo paintjob layered over it.
At the height of its popularity it had no attachments. If anything attachments make it harder to balance so my point is all the more relevant.
And yeah they are making a Halo BR and seemingly putting a lot of effort into it. I understand the thought that if a BR is made and successful that the core MP might get left behind. I don’t want that to happen. I would like for a BR to just be another mode people play not the only mode they play. That said a Halo BR done right would be stupid fun and i look forward to it.
Wanting them to pour all of their time into adding more weapons makes me think you enjoyed Halo 5 because it had a ton of weapons in it even if most of them were redundant and useless due to balancing.
I don’t think we need many more weapons because too many more and the sandbox just gets muddled with meaningless slight changes to weapons. That said i would rather get a BR than more weapons and on top of that id rather get a BR, more maps, a few older vehicles return (not the mantis), and maybe a few more modes all before i saw another weapon added. I would hope 343 could do this on their own while a BR is being made by CA.
