Why can’t 343i give players who started the game an option to switch the privacy settings from semi-public (joinable by friends and those who seek it out) to full-public (joinable by those whom are in matchmaking)?
343i could quite easily create ONE playlist that simply searches for custom games open to the public by fellow players. Once a lobby fills to a certain threshold, it then initiates a countdown to start the game. It could have a basic join-in-progress feature to keep a games players from dropping to low.
Why can’t you do this 343i? This would be for those who want to search for forged maps on crazy gametypes and for people who need players to test maps without resorting to forums.
P.S.
I know I have said this before but I will say it again: Halo 5 needs a woven community. Players need to be able to join up with other players easily (although they don’t have to).
I recommended awhile back that the Halo Channel should have had built in custom games searching built-in for Halo 5 and it still isn’t too late… The Xbox One supports simultaneous games and apps being open. I made an elaborate forum topic explaining how it would work, and unfortunately it was drowned by Halo Channel complaints from last year.
This seems like a no-brainer to me. And yet recent history seems to show that 343 thinks the future of Halo is in attempting to perfect game play mechanics and ranking systems, and not in adding community features. Or even carrying over existing community features. PvE is back-sliding. Theater mode is back-sliding. Forge… hard to say, but I will say that it isn’t progressing as fast as I’d like it to, and the lack of a public forge play list is only one aspect of that deficiency. Well, there’s always Halo 6.
I think a custom games browser would be better than a playlist

What news did I miss?
If I’m understanding you correctly then this playlist will simply stick random players into random custom games that could be any one of the many, many game types (on a specific map). If so then I imagine it would be a horribly inefficient system that has players joining and quitting till they find what custom game type they want (maybe on a specific map too), if it even exists. Aside from being a giant waste of time for everyone other than the people who are open to everything and anything, I can’t imagine that constant leaving and joining will not use up any extra resources.

True a custom game browser would be easier to do and find custom games faster just wondering how its going to work when your solo and want to test your map alone. Maybe the private, closed or open sessions are still applicable.

Referring to the the down-grade from Reach to H4. H4 doesn’t work for campaign or spartan ops.

If they decided to not include any quicktime events in the campaign then the theater mode for it would be back.
