One thing I disliked about the Reach challenges was that the credits seemed random. Yesterday we had a challenge of killing 400 enemies in FF. It was worth 2k cR.
monday however, we had a challenge of killing 120 enemies in ANY gametype worth 2.7k cR (or around that number.) So theoritically we got more points for what was obviously the lesser challenge.
to me, the credit system was based on challenges themselves and not their overall difficulty. And since halo 4 does seem to have a exp-driven progression ranking system (i understand that they are also implementing a ranking system to fit the competetive players as well.) I’d love to see more consistent challenges (exp-wise.)
What does everyone else think?
PS. Though it was possibly a placeholder, in the smartglass trailer, it did look like in the halo 4 profile, there was a list of challenges. So those are reasons i believe that challenges may return…unless 343i stated they were and i missed that.
agreed. but the new system in Halo 4 is based on EXP, so maybe having some challanged based on skill to give u extra EXP, that will help players and give them a reason to rank up and play online

Maybe they will bring back double EXP weeks/weekends? Fingers crossed
I honestly dislike the idea of daily/weekly challenges. I see why they were created: to get players to play a little of all types of games. But, honestly that got old quick. I now view it as very repetitive and annoying, trying to coax you to play a certain gametype. I wanna play how I wanna play and get more credits/EXP more for doing it. I know that daily/weekly challenges are not mandatory, but double EXP weeks/weekends seem like a better alternative to me.
even if the new Halo 4 system is based on EXP we still have the point system from SpartanOPs to think about too so their still a place for challenges, maybe. But i agree with OP, some of those challenges being random but it has been getting better. the first couple of challenges when the game first came out were a little bit riduculous in terms of what u had to do and their payouts for them.
Well, the reason credits was lower for FF, was because it’s FF, it’s damn easy to kill 400 grunts in FF Match Making.
How ever, it’s harder to kill 120 people in PvP Match Making.
But if they do return, I bet they will be more consistent, since Spartan Ops is more or less DLC campaign, not survival mode.
I don’t really care for daily or weekly challenges. I would want challenges to replace commendations (cause it sounds better in my opinion). Challenges could get you xp and weapon/armor skins. I also want challenges to be like get x kills with the carbine or x kills with the BR. Get x amount of x medals, stuff like that. More like commendations but that wouldn’t take super long like in Reach (Get 20,000 headshots, come on now, 5,000 should be the most). I want them to be weapon and vehicle specific this time for more challenges and to get skins for those weapons.

If i recall, the first weekly challenge was beat the game on heroic and it gave about 7777 credits.
Not much by todays standards. But thats another thing Id like to see balanced. A EXP system where the exp is more meaningful and a bit more difficult, but the ranking isnt as steep as reach’s. As a Noble, it’s taking what feels like forever to level up. And Reach’s feel of random credits makes it seem that much steeper.
I also concur with double exp. Seeing double exp return instead of jackpots would be nice, but challenges keep me the game on a near daily basis. So why not have both?
Commedations should also be more balanced. They were too easy in the beta but in the retail, they take a lot of excessive grinding.
And maybe commedations should earn you perks in some form instead of exp. Or both. Though gears of war has done a similar system, which worked pretty well imo.

Or to just keep players in the game for another redundant and unoriginal “challenge”.

True but the key word was ANY gamemode, this includes firefight. I got the challenge done in one match of score attack and got 1.7x more credits than yesterday’s challenge that took a few more matches of score attack. Its not a big deal, but it is inconvienent
Whatever they do, the ones that require you to go out of your way to get them should be more worthwhile. Why bother with a campaign mission where you have to beat it on legendary with a bunch of skulls on without dying for 5000 cR, when you can go play a match or two in multiplayer and get as much xp in a fraction of the time.
> I hope like Spartan Ops they add new ones every week and not reuse old ones, Halo Reach’s challanges became repetitive to me
Same here. It didn’t take long for me to start having to drag myself through those challenges every day. They’re became more like chores. In the amount of time it took to complete some of them I could’ve earned more credits just playing regular MM matches. Eventually I just stopped caring about them.
I feel like we’ll be getting enough stuff to do each week w/ Spartan-Ops and possibly Jackpots/Dub-XP playlists on weekends to keep us occupied. Halo 4 will have more than enough to do that challenges will just make things overwhelming.

I loved the Challenges, they kept me coming back everyday for awhile.
Seriously, I don’t understand what’s the deal with XP, in H3 the XP was completely useless.

There is no benefit or drawback to XP over Credits, it’s all just a name for the game’s currency. I just called it “double XP weekends” because it seems that Halo 4 is using XP and not credits. We earn XP to rank up and when we rank up we earn Spartan Points to spend on armor, loadouts, etc.
