If 343i introduced grabbing ledges...

If the next Halo introduced the game mechanic of grabbing ledges and climbing over onto the surface, how would you react?

Personally, I’d hate it.

If maps revolved around the use of the mechanic, I’d be annoyed. Otherwise I wouldn’t mind.

It’s a pointless addition though.

As long as we have a super-human feel to it like the Beginning of Dawn.

I think it would be cool and to shoot your weapon while doing it.
But the maps would have to work with it. I really don’t care what they do next with the game as long that it comes out.

I would hate it as well. It would be slow, and because of the large jump height, would only serve to give people the opportunity to camp on the edge. Especially if you were able to shoot your gun. That would be such a bad thing. Nothing positive could come from it.

Mirror’s Edge: Halo Edition

I can only see it working in Forge and Custom Games, it would be absolute tyranny to implement it in Matchmaking or Campaign…

Besides, we already have Jetpack. Let’s not make it worse.

HaloEdge 5: Modern Crysis.

It would kinda ruin Halo how we know it.

I like the idea. It would make sence, but it should be restricted if you are dual weilding. Think of the cool new puzzle maps that could utlize this

I wouldnt like this, since i dont see a reason why this should even be implemented.

Made a post in the double jump thread about this, and I think it could work (both the double jump and ledge climb) as a replacement for Jetpacks. Here is my post from the double jump thread.

> Ever since the E3 Halo 4 announcement, where you see Chief using the thrusters to maneuver in zero g, I was certain that 343 was going to include it in the gameplay in some way. Obviously now we all know it didn’t do squat. Aside from two cutscene, the armor’s thrusters had zero impact on the game, even though almost every armor variant over-exaggerates the thruster portion unlike past Halo games. So it shouldn’t be impossible to think those thrusters couldn’t extend the jump of Spartans.

> Gameplay wise, it can be a way to get rid of jet packs and make a set height people can jump/fly, making it easier to design maps around it. Incorporate having some ledges be climbable, it can increase map flow and give multiple options to an objective. And before people start complaining about ledge climbing or vaulting or whatever, I’m not talking about being able to hang from a ledge like a fat kid on the pull up bar. I’m picturing it more like if the camera view is above the level of the ledge and you are pressing forward, your Spartan will immediately climb the ledge, like in the time it takes to snap your fingers, help us feel like the super soldiers we are suppose to be playing as. I also think it shouldn’t be like a platformer where the jump resets every time you touch the ground, but more like a five second recharge between uses. After all the player is a half ton of armor.

> But it isn’t like this idea can’t work, I had been thinking of this even before Halo 4 came out. And now Titanfall has that kind of mechanic and it does work wonderfully and is very fluid to the combat and getting around the map.

It’s a somewhat radical change, so I’m not sure. It could make for more action-packed graphics and character animations (I’m thinking specifically of Chief climbing the elevator shaft). But is it really worth it? I think not.

I really don’t think this would fit with Halo’s gameplay. Halo’s movement is more fluid and controllable, and being snapped into a position while you perform specific button presses is the opposite of this.

I would not really care, it would add a more realistic feel, kind of how you grab on to edges on Crysis.

Exactly what Rami3z77 said. I rather jump or walk around, instead of clicking a button to leap over a ledge, object, etc. It would be very irritating to have.

I wouldn’t like it at all, and I would consider it a pointless and annoying addition to halo.

The idea itself Its pretty bad, I would hate it unless there’s a way to turn it off.

Hate it!!! We have never needed that crap before in Halo, and we do not need it now. It would probably cause them to start making maps with much higher ledges to encourage people to use that new feature. Plus, I just hate that little animation that it forces you to do. I prefer the much faster and fluid higher jump that we can do in Halo. Leave ledge grabbing to all those other games. Let Halo be unique.

The only use I can find in multiplayer is if -Yoink- want to grab onto a ledge somewhere on a map and drop down for an assassination, so no.

All depends on how they do it. Warframe has a very similar system, but there is no “hit A” to leap over ledge", it’s very seamless, it doesn’t slow you down, you run up to a wall that’s just tall enough for a spartan to jump, grab the ledge and leap over.

For Campaign, this would be fun, for matchmaking, it’d be just as fun, but most people will be mad at it. Plus, when they create the map, they could do it so mapmakers can highlight ledges that can be grabbed.
