So I am sat in the gunners nest of a Wraith with a stupid driver shooting everything I shoot at.
Why idiot… Well there are two enemy Wraiths right in front of us and the tank driver is more interested in finishing off the infantry I was shooting. Multiple times. totally ignored the Wraiths. More interested in finishing off my kills. Of course the enemy Wraithes flattened us.
Tell me about it, got in the Gauss Hog as driver last night on exile, some random gunner, spun over to where the red teams tank emerge, gunner decides to prioritize 2 reds on foot over the Scorpion, All I could do was watch its turret rotate while my idiot gunner was in lala land.
Well, I have to say that I do like random warthog drivers more than the occasional bad tank driver.
Why? Because they are so friendly when they come charging at me full speed, knock my shields down, tirelesly honk at me to hop up on the turret, then go off trying to splatter every Spartan, Weapon, Rock and vehcile on the map with me on the turret. For some strange reason Spartans who are indoors are the perfect bacon for my drivers.
My Spartan has been on places few others have while being on a hog turret.
And why do Hog drivers always park RIGHT IN FRONT OF A BUNCH OF ENEMIES instead of moving around at a good distance from the enemy to give enough time to dodge rockets and FRG rounds. This isn’t the Hog we knew… this is a paper Hog. One good tickle and it blows to kingdom come.
Even the tanks are weak as hell… Been playing SpOps Legendary and it’s like they are made out of explosives with detonators placed all over the hull. Fire two rounds and then KABOOM you blow up from a Grunt firing a pea shooter.
Talking of FRG rounds… anyone find that the screen glows green WAYYYYYY too long at times. It’s like I’m Superman and Lex Luthor has ordered a Kryptonite bombardment from orbit. Dodging them is hard enough but when the screen is flared out for so long you are just stuffed. I like Hard… Impossible, not so much. I actually counted this one time and the screen greened out for 7 seconds.
I agree on the drivers - I’m not the best driver, but dang some are completely crazy. On Exile, just keep the Warthog moving enough to keep the grenades and plasma pistols from connecting. I will be happily sniping with the Gauss Turret at the spawn, only to have someone hop in the driver’s seat, drive full-tilt across the bridge, and flip the vehicle - {Boom}.
As to tank drivers shooting at what the gunner is shooting at - if it is as you describe, I concede the point. Is is possible that they are having trouble keeping up with targets? When I am on the top gunner spot (and no infantry is trying to 'jack us), I will often “mark” targets for the driver to hit. While he/she comes to bear on that one, I am checking radar and scanning the screen for the next. I’ll happily go 5-15-5 if the driver can get 25-30 kills and we win.
I thought this was going to be about AI gunners (“What’s that, Chief, aim for the tank? That corpse looked at me funny, I’d rather shoot that instead. With this Rocket Hog. At point blank range.”)
@OP: to be fair, the Wraith turret IS an anti-infantry weapon, and if you were up against two enemy wraiths you probably should have hauled -Yoink- out of there…
I WAS shooting infantry… the main gun driver should have been shooting for the -Yoink!- tanks, not finishing off the infantry to steal my kills (and no I don’t mind kill stealing but I do when it means they are using the main gun to kill infantry ahead of heavy armour).
I actually spawned into the turret of another Wraith the guy was in. I got out of there fast… and then the git ran me over. Couldn’t win, either way.

So true.
“Hey you! Be my gunner! Yeah, you! You with the active camo! Stop sniping and be my gunner! honk honk He must not have seen me, I’ll drive right into his line of sight. honk honk Be my gunner! C’mon, it’ll be fun! hoooooooooooonk No? Well screw you. betrays”

Oh, oops, I misread. I thought you said YOU were the driver.

Got this image of Wally The Warthog with a smiley face on the front grill now. LOL
Actually I have come across drivers who seems to do that for ALL the seats in the Hog. Is it for some commendation or something.
Oh god… Another idiot. Just playing Land Grab MM and I am in the hogs gunner stand with perfect shot at the end of the mission (ie a good distance from the top of the hill as it is legendary). Idiot gets into driver seat and drives it RIGHT TO THE TOP OF THE HILL AND THEN FLIPS IT.
I swear some of these gamers are brain damaged. I may be a crap player but even I know not to do stupid stuff like that.
Ive been in both situations, gunner and driver with someone duff in the other seat. Its extremely frustrating to say the least. However in defence of some of them, Im not perfect myself. Lag can play a massive role in how well you do in 'hogs. A few times Ive been a driver and the car has hit a rock I knew I was well away from initially but the lag porting caused me to hit it and roll the thing. As a gunner more than a few times Ive shot at someone only to see them lagport away from where I was just about to fire and waste the shot.
Tanks though I feel are a bit on the iffy side for driving. A few times Ive got stuck with the vehicle not able to make its mind up which way It wants to go. I push a specific direction and instead of going that way it decides to rotate the tank, move a fraction, rotate again, go backwards, rotate again etc. All while Im still holding one specific direction for both the movement and the camera.
One thing I would like to say though is, dont expect me to slowdown or stop in a hotzone when Im driving. And dont slowdown and stop in a hotzone when im a gunner. As a gunner I dont care if I kill someone or not that very instance so please for the love of furry animals, dont park up infront of them just because Im shooting at them. And when Im a driver, please gunners, track to the front because thats where we are going. If you are always pointed backwards, you will never know wtf is coming up. If we slow down or get emp’ed, PLEASE pay attention to the motion sensor and where the emp came from, because Im shooting there/driving away from there to keep us alive.
People in Ghosts. You’re either going to spend the next ten minutes of the game dodging, ducking, dipping, diving and dodging New Delhi during rush hour, or you’ll spend 'em plastered to some guy’s front end.
Gotta love them hover cars.
EDIT: Though people in the Heavies are pretty snappy when it comes to stealing your kills… And draining your shields.
The number of people who keep trying to splatter me over and over and failing is laughably high. Ive jumped once already dude, and this thurster pack/jetpack aint gona make it any easier for you to splat me. Give it up and try someone else if your that dense.
You could have just shot me to crap from range. But nooooo, you tried to be a smart--Yoink!- and failed miserably.

I do understand lag and that it plays a role in how good a driver can drive in a rocky terrain.
However, when the driver deiceds to have a gunner and wants to splatter enemies, I just want to slap the driver over the face for not learning their mistakes. Why do you need a gunner if you’re going to splatter stuff? Why do you want to splatter stuff when you have a gunner? Wouldn’t it be easier to get a vehicles good at splattering, say a ghost?
Back to not learning from mistakes, what on earth is so hard to understand about going very close to an enemy is outright stupid. I’m not talking about zooming at high speed through a group of enemies, I’m talking about when you outright brake, turn around and proceed to crash the warthog into whatever small crevice the enemy was sitting in, resulting in one or two kills for the enemy. I’ve seen the same player do the same “stunt” several times on different matches on different maps.
You may eventually break the concrete wall by banging your head against it, but you surely did more harm to yourself than to the well.
