AI is the future, not improving Halo’s AI this go around would be bad on the franchise and expectation of the series. AI Seamlessly always add more to everything, but let’s face the fact that they can’t drive worth -Yoink-. But their mobility? Easily fixable.
Also take a look at how the covenant conduct themselves in battle. They don’t stray to far away from each other, such as brute’s, And they always move in unity. Aware of each others movement’s, like a game of chess. Each piece knows when it’s up for battle and each piece knows when to fall back to cover. Take the use of cover and flat out camping for example. If I wanted to compromise an opponents cover i’d use a Grenade. It require’s no mobility and a safe bet that I will infiltrate an opponent’s comfort zone by a burst of energy in a small space.
Furthermore, mobility and environment are another interaction that should be upgraded in Halo. Your thinking of Gears of war, aren’t you? You see, right there. You’ve seen it so much in another game, that you feel as though it can’t be done in Halo. But you’re wrong. It can! Not from the third person stand point of thing’s, but how about a new rendition of a first person view of cover taking in Halo, NOT THIRD!!! But FIRST, this is also where possibly the depth of the HUD could come into play? OR whatever. Just as long that we understand this franchise is solely first person based. Beside’s Vehicle and Armor Abilities.
So now, maybe the player could get a more in-depth feeling of the weight of the character itself. Whether in close quarter’s or peeking in and out from behind cover, from a first person stand-point. AI should react to this as a Que, to either 1) Evade. (Because the player is taking damage) OR 2.) Follow the player into cover. Damage, however still remain’s compatible with the player’s closeness to the corner of cover in which they are confided to. If the player has his head stuck out, but remain’s crouched, aim will be slightly more significant, but will not be able to retreat back to cover as quickly along with his allies. If a grenade fly’s over head, but isn’t close enough to kill. The player should stagger to regain momentum then re-calibrate the shot while in cover and take minimal damage. If the grenade lands at his feet, well there’s an animation for that too. Cover should be destructible, after all it adds to realism and in fact, it further enhances game play. Maybe that could be a future option in forge. The choice to destroy various parts of buildings and object’s or leave them rock solid and indestructible. Who knows? Maybe, that could even be a future choice for armor. Destructible in game-play or it stay’s perfectly polished.
Ok, I didn’t bother to read it all as it was just to hard. Paragraphs are your friend. Space out your OP to make it more accessible.
Onto the topic. I agree that the AI needs improvement. Ally AI has always been terrible, to the point that I felt like killing the human soldiers in Reach instead of the Covenant.
You suggested a cover option. Something that has been done in numerous third AND FIRST person shooters. You want it in Halo and this is something I can’t disagree to more. I honestly can’t stand these things. I don’t need to press a button to have my character duck behind something. I don’t need my character to automatically press himself against a wall. I am perfectly capable of positioning myself behind something without an added feature.
appreciate the feed-back bud. I wrote this article at three in the morning btw…so, sorry. I Did the best I could.
